Chapter 78 The Garcia Family Really Got into Trouble
"It looks like Miss Brown's got nothing left to say. Let's bounce," Rachel said to Joseph.
Joseph shot Mandy a knowing smile and nodded. Mandy's little games might fool Michael, but not him. He couldn't wrap his head around why Michael was so smitten with her.
Just as they were about to leave, Chloe called out, "Ms. Williams, hold up."
Rachel squinted, "Mrs. Garcia, something else on your mind?"
Mandy and Monica turned to see what Chloe wanted.
Chloe crossed her arms, looking all high and mighty. "Aren't you gonna apologize to Mandy?"
"Apologize for what?" Rachel asked, staring her down.
Chloe scoffed, "Your suitor attacked Mandy and sent her to the hospital. Don't you think you owe her an apology?"
"Wait, someone attacked her?" Joseph's voice went up a notch in surprise.
Rachel rolled her eyes, "Do you really think that's possible?"
Joseph nodded seriously. "Yeah, I think it could happen!"
Rachel's mouth twitched, "Get lost!"
Joseph shrugged and kept quiet.
Rachel turned back to Mandy and Chloe, her eyes narrowing. "Who said I ordered someone to attack her?"
"Mandy heard the kidnapper say it was you," Chloe snapped.
Rachel chuckled, "So you believed it and decided to help Miss Brown get revenge by cutting off Skyline Corporation's bank loan?" She raised an eyebrow, her gaze steady.
At first, Rachel thought Chloe's actions were about the bridge game incident, but seeing her with Mandy made her rethink. Now, hearing Chloe mention it herself, along with Mandy's attack, she was almost sure of her guess.
A flicker of surprise crossed Chloe's face, "You knew?"
Mandy and Monica were just as shocked.
Seeing their reactions, Rachel sneered, "If you do something, it always comes out."
Chloe quickly composed herself and snorted, "So what if you know? Skyline Corporation is already on the edge of collapse."
"Is that so?" Rachel tilted her head, a faint smile on her lips. "For Miss Brown, you personally went after me. That's some touching friendship. But do you really think Skyline Corporation will fall? I don't think so. I think the ones who might be in real trouble are the Garcia family."
Chloe's eyes narrowed, but she quickly regained her cool, her expression hardening. "Are you kidding?"
"Of course, she's kidding, trying to make us laugh. The Garcia family is so powerful; how could they fall just because she says so?" Monica chimed in, crossing her arms and rolling her eyes.
Mandy looked at Rachel with dissatisfaction and added, "Ms. Williams, you shouldn't say such things lightly."
"I don't think she's just talking nonsense," Joseph suddenly spoke up, looking deeply at Rachel. Her firm tone made him realize this might not be a casual remark. The Garcia family might actually be in trouble, but he was curious about how she knew.
"Joseph, do you also think she's telling the truth?" Chloe pointed at Rachel, questioning Joseph with irritation.
Joseph was about to answer, but Rachel cut in, "You'll find out soon enough. I just hope that by then, your friendship is still rock solid."
With that, she gave a mocking smile and signaled Joseph to take her away. Her foot hurt so much it was almost numb.
Mandy and the others didn't stop them. Chloe lowered her head, deep in thought.
Monica, holding Mandy's arm, watched them leave. She pouted, "Who would believe her nonsense?"
Mandy said, "Forget it. Maybe Ms. Williams is in a bad mood because of company problems, so..."
Before she could finish, a phone rang.
The moment Chloe heard the phone, an uneasy feeling crept over her. She took out her phone and saw the caller ID, her heart tightening. She answered, "Mom, what's up?"
"Chloe, where are you? Still in Summit Ridge District?" A woman's frantic voice came through the phone.
Chloe's unease grew. "Yeah, what's up?"
"What's up? You seriously have to ask?" the woman yelled, her voice dripping with anger. "You've caused a huge mess. You've been reported for meddling in another city's politics. Now your dad's been hauled in for questioning, and other family members are suspended for review."
"What?" Chloe's face went pale, her hands and feet turning cold. Rachel's earlier warning echoed in her mind, and she started trembling uncontrollably. It was true! The Garcia family was really in trouble!
"Chloe, I'm telling you, if our family falls because of this, don't blame us for disowning you," the woman warned before abruptly hanging up.
Chloe stood there, phone in hand, her mind blank. Mandy and Monica exchanged worried glances.
Mandy asked, concerned, "Ms. Garcia, what's wrong?"
Chloe snapped back to reality at the sound of her voice. Realizing the Garcia family's troubles were all because she helped Mandy teach Rachel a lesson, she immediately blamed Mandy, her face twisted in anger, "Mandy, you better hope my family is okay, or I won't let you off!"
With that, Chloe shoved Mandy aside and hurried out of the hospital. She had to get back to the Unity Republic immediately to apologize to her elders, or everything would be over.
"Mandy, what do we do? Rachel's words came true, and Ms. Garcia's family is really in trouble," Monica asked anxiously, shocked by the turn of events.
Mandy rubbed her sore shoulder, biting her lip and lowering her head to hide her inner unease and panic, not answering.
How would she know what to do? If she had any clue, she wouldn't be so flustered right now. What on earth happened? How did Rachel foresee the Garcia family's impending trouble?
Mandy pressed her lips together, her gaze complex as she stared in the direction Rachel had gone, now empty.
Meanwhile, Joseph had already escorted Rachel to the entrance of the surgical department.
The surgeon, surprised to see Rachel, remarked, "Didn't you just come in for a dressing change last night? Why are you here again today?"
Rachel, not expecting the doctor to remember her, coughed lightly in embarrassment. "This time, it's my foot."
"Your foot?" The doctor bent around the desk to examine her ankle.
Noticing her visibly swollen ankle, the doctor shook his head sympathetically. "You're really having a streak of bad luck. Your head injury hasn't even healed yet, and now you've sprained your foot. I suggest you take some time to pray."
Joseph couldn't hold back and burst out laughing.
Rachel, already blushing from the doctor's words, felt even more embarrassed. She elbowed Joseph and demanded, "Shut up!"
Joseph clutched his waist, his face contorted, grumbling, "Your elbow is really strong."
Rachel glared at him. "Serves you right. That's what you get for mocking me."
He grinned and quickly begged for mercy, "Alright, alright, I won't laugh anymore."
Rachel snorted and let him off.
While the doctor treated Rachel's foot injury, Joseph didn't forget to subtly inquire about the Garcia family's situation.
Learning that the current head of the Garcia family had been taken away by government officials and that the rest of the family members were under investigation, he tilted his head slightly, looking at Rachel in disbelief.
Even though he hadn't anticipated the Garcia family's upheaval, Rachel had foreseen it. It was truly incredible.
Rachel, catching Joseph's conversation on the phone, naturally understood why he was scrutinizing her, a smile tugging at her lips, "You're curious how I knew the Garcia family would be in trouble, right?"
Joseph nodded eagerly. "Yes, yes."
"I'm not telling you!" Rachel responded with a mischievous smile.
Joseph was momentarily speechless, then shamelessly moved closer, grinning, "Don't be like that. I helped you out during your argument with Mandy and the others."
Rachel nodded. "That's true."
Joseph urged, "So, tell me, what's going on?"
