Chapter 204

Seeing Mandy tremble with anger, Rachel smirked, clearly pleased. "What's wrong, Miss Brown? Upset? You treated me the same way just now, and I didn't get mad. Are you really getting worked up over something so minor? How can someone as petty as you become Mrs. Smith?"

"I'm not angry!" Mandy clenched her fists tightly, took a deep breath, and struggled to suppress her inner rage before sharply retorting.

She knew Rachel was deliberately provoking her. But Mandy didn't want to fall for it. She would show Rachel that she was more suited to be Mrs. Smith.

"Great." Rachel clapped her hands. "Miss Brown, you're truly magnanimous. I admire that. Since you're not upset, I'll take my leave now."

With that, Rachel tossed the hand towel aside, walked past Mandy, and headed for the restroom door. Halfway there, she stopped, turned, and gave Mandy a meaningful smile. "By the way, Miss Brown, you look great in that dress. It's perfect for tonight's banquet."

Her gaze fell on the fur shawl on Mandy's shoulder and the crocodile leather clutch in her hand, a hint of mockery flashing in her eyes. Last time at the dress shop, she and Ella had deliberately recommended those outfits to trap Mandy. Unexpectedly, Mandy was so naive and actually wore them. Tonight's banquet should be very interesting!

Rachel smiled and left the restroom.

Mandy looked at herself in the mirror and narcissistically smiled. "At least you have some taste."

As soon as she finished speaking, Mandy wiped off her makeup and prepared to wash her hands again. When she turned back to the mirror, she saw her hideous appearance and let out a shriek.

She hadn't noticed earlier, but now she realized Rachel's compliment was entirely sarcastic. With smudged makeup and messy hair, she looked like a madwoman, clearly a result of her earlier altercation with Rachel.

Mandy glared at her reflection in the mirror, her face twisted with rage. "Rachel, just you wait. I will make sure to destroy you and that child in your belly!"

Daphne Morgan, who had just walked into the restroom, halted abruptly at the sound. She pursed her lips in distaste, cast a disdainful glance at the restroom door, and swiftly turned to leave.

"Miss Brown is so vicious!" Daphne sneered as she left the restroom.

Back at the auction site, John hurriedly asked Rachel, "Why did you take so long to come back?"

Rachel adjusted her dress and sat down. "I ran into some trouble."

"What trouble?" John immediately became nervous. "Rachel, are you okay?"

"Don't worry; I'm fine. I've already taken care of it." Rachel smiled at him.

John nodded. "That's good. The next auction item is yours."

Hearing this, Rachel squinted, thinking, 'That is quick!'

As the antique on stage was auctioned off, the next item was brought to the display platform. The big screen behind the auctioneer detailed the information about the ring, but the donor's part only listed the surname, protecting the donor's privacy.

"It's Rachel and Michael's wedding ring!" Mandy stared at the ring on the big screen, her eyes turning red. She actually donated the wedding ring she had with Michael, while Michael hadn't even given her a ring yet.

Mandy's heart brimmed with envy. "Dad, I want that ring."

Ethan frowned. "What are you going to do with it? It's been worn by someone else. If you want a new one, just ask Michael to buy it."

"Michael won't buy it." Mandy clenched her fists. She had hinted many times for Michael to buy her a wedding ring, but he always said to wait until they got married.

She didn't want to wait. She would rather have the ring Rachel wore, at least it was bought by Michael.

Ethan couldn't argue with Mandy and had to agree to let her bid.

The auction began with a starting price of $200,000. The price was high because the main diamond was a rare pink diamond.

"$300,000!" Mandy immediately raised her paddle.

Michael, in the second-floor box, along with Rachel, John, and Joseph in the back rows, all recognized her voice. The three were surprised, and Michael was puzzled.

Michael pressed the bell, and the auctioneer immediately announced, "The guest in Box 1 on the second floor bids $400,000. Any higher bids?"

Mandy gritted her teeth and looked up at the second floor, but couldn't see the people in the box. "$500,000!"

Michael frowned and pressed the bell again. "The guest in the box raises the bid to $600,000."

Mandy trembled and shouted, "$700,000!"

"Rachel, it seems Mandy is competing with someone on the second floor," John said to Rachel.

Rachel nodded. "I wonder who the person upstairs is and why they also want this ring."

Although she was surprised by Mandy's actions, it made sense. After all, the ring was bought by Michael, and maybe Mandy wanted to claim it as her own. But the person upstairs puzzled her.

"Rachel, I want to join the fun too," John said playfully.

Rachel raised an eyebrow. "What do you want to do?"

John raised his paddle. "$1,000,000!"

The entire room was shocked. This ring was worth at most $500,000, and it had already been bid up to $700,000, and now someone bid $1,000,000.

"John, what are you doing? Are you crazy?" Rachel's eyes widened.

John whispered, "Relax, I know what I'm doing. Don't worry."

Seeing his serious expression, Rachel sighed. "Alright then."

"Take it easy!" John waved his hand dismissively.
