Chapter 190

The doctor's hands paused for a moment. He looked up at Rachel, then at Michael's indifferent expression, feeling a bit puzzled. He hadn't used much force, so why would it hurt? Moreover, the gentleman's expression didn't seem like he was in pain.

Shaking his head, the doctor didn't think much of it, assuming it was just a wife concerned for her husband. Sighing, he continued the massage.

After a while, the doctor opened the medical kit and began to apply medicine and bandage Michael's foot.

Rachel gently patted Kade's back, then stood up. "Doctor, how is his foot? Is the bone okay?"

"Don't worry, ma'am. His foot is fine, no bone issues, just some strained ligaments and tendons. It should heal in about ten days to two weeks," the doctor replied while disinfecting Michael's foot.

Hearing this, Rachel breathed a sigh of relief and nodded with a smile. "That's good."

Seeing that Michael was not seriously hurt, her guilt lessened significantly. Although he was saving himself and happened to save her in the process, he ended up getting injured because of her. If his foot had any serious issues, she would have been very upset.

Michael looked at Rachel's smiling face, his eyes darkening slightly.

Was she worried about him?

Noticing his gaze, Rachel turned to him. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Michael replied, his eyes flickering.

Rachel shrugged and looked away.

A few minutes later, the doctor stood up. "This gentleman's foot is bandaged. Keep it dry for twenty-four hours and go to the hospital to change the dressing after a day."

"Okay, thank you." Rachel nodded.

The manager escorted the doctor out. When he returned, he was holding a Gundam toy and a box, looking apologetically at Rachel and Michael. "I am terribly sorry. It was our restaurant's negligence that caused your injury. These are compensations from our restaurant. Please see if they are satisfactory."

The manager handed over the items, but Rachel didn't take them. Instead, she looked at Michael. "You are the one injured, so you decide."

Michael glanced at the Gundam and the box, his voice cold. "Whether it was your negligence or not is yet to be determined. We'll wait for my assistant to investigate."

The manager felt a wave of distress. He had hoped to resolve the issue with generous compensation, but it seemed this approach wouldn't work. Michael had an assistant, indicating he was not an ordinary person. The more significant the person, the harder it was to deal with. It looked like his position as manager might really be in jeopardy.

When David returned, Michael looked up and asked, "What did you find out?"

Rachel also looked at David.

The restaurant manager straightened his back, waiting for the investigation results.

David answered seriously, "Mr. Smith, this was indeed an accident. The waiter who installed the panel lost two screws and didn't report it, which led to the incident."

Michael's frown eased slightly.

Rachel pursed her lips and said angrily, "That waiter was so irresponsible. Leaving such a big hazard for a small matter, what if someone got hurt?"

Thinking of that possibility, Rachel couldn't help but feel a bit scared.

Michael's face darkened. "Where is that waiter?"

"He is being held in the kitchen," David replied.

Michael looked at the manager. "Although it was the waiter's fault, you're still partly responsible as the manager."

"Yes, yes," the manager nodded quickly.

"Fire that waiter immediately and notify the industry to blacklist him. Anyone who hires him will be going against the Smith family." Michael demanded.

"The Smith family?" The manager was stunned.

It turned out he was the CEO of Smith Corporation, his boss's boss.

The manager gave a self-deprecating smile. Fortunately, the big boss only docked his salary for three months and didn't fire him. Then he raised the box in his hand again. "Mr. Smith, what about this?"

"Kade," Michael indicated to Rachel.

"Michael is calling you," Rachel gently nudged Kade.

Michael spoke, "Go ahead, it's the Gundam you like."

"I don't want it anymore," Kade said softly, lowering his head.

"Why not?" Rachel asked with concern.

"Because I wanted the Gundam, uncle Michael got hurt."

"Alright, Kade, don't think like that. I told you it's not your fault. Be good, take the Gundam," Rachel said, tapping Kade's nose.

Kade blinked and stepped forward to take the Gundam from the manager.

Michael looked at the box in the manager's hand. "What's inside?"

The manager quickly opened the box. "Mr. Smith, this is a pair of new couple's watches from Lumina Timepieces."

Michael squinted. "For us?"

"Yes," the manager replied with a bitter smile.

Michael turned to Rachel. "Do you like them?"

Rachel raised an eyebrow.

The manager sensibly held the box closer for her to see.

The watches were beautiful, and Rachel did like them, but they were a pair of couple's watches.

"The key is whether Miss Brown likes them. These watches suit you and her well," Rachel said indifferently.

Since Kade had called Michael 'Uncle', the manager probably knew they weren't a real couple, so there was no need to pretend anymore.

Michael's face darkened. "These watches are for us. Why bring up Mandy?"
