Chapter 209
"Whether these young people have wronged Miss Brown or not, we shouldn't just rely on words but look at the evidence. What do you all think?" Daphne suddenly let go of Jagger's arm, took a step forward, and gave everyone a meaningful smile.
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Mandy looked at the smile on Daphne's face, and her heart sank suddenly. She immediately felt a sense of foreboding and tensed up.
Michael noticed Mandy's unusual expression and lowered his head to ask softly, "What's wrong?"
"I'm fine." Mandy forced a smile and said softly, "It's just that I hurt a bit when I fell earlier. Michael, can you take me to the hospital to get checked out?"
Her intuition told her that she had to leave immediately, or something unpredictable would happen.
Michael originally wanted to wait until this matter was over, but seeing Mandy's pleading eyes, he nodded in agreement.
He supported Mandy's arm and prepared to leave. Rachel, however, narrowed her eyes and coldly called out to them, "Stop, the matter isn't clear yet. Why are you leaving?"
"Yeah, didn't you say Rachel pushed you? She's standing right here. Why are you in such a hurry? Are you feeling guilty?" John chimed in.
Joseph and Robert nodded in agreement, while a hint of mockery flashed in Daphne's eyes.
"We're not leaving." Mandy turned back, her eyes slightly red, and said aggrievedly, "I'm just in pain and want to go to the hospital. Michael can testify."
Michael nodded slightly, indicating that it was indeed the case. "We'll come back after seeing the doctor."
"Who knows how long you'll be gone." Robert crossed his arms and said indifferently.
"That's right. You don't need to go in person to see a doctor. What if the injury worsens? So, let's call a doctor here. Daphne, is that okay?" Joseph looked at Daphne.
Daphne nodded and smiled. "Of course."
She then called a waiter and instructed him to get a doctor.
Mandy wanted to stop him, but it was too late. She could only watch the waiter leave, feeling extremely angry. She knew these people were deliberately targeting her, not letting her leave!
"Miss Brown, you don't look well. Are you upset because we called a doctor? We're just doing this for your own good. You should be grateful, not angry. You're being unreasonable," John said.
The others also chimed in, "Yes, Miss Brown, you're indeed in the wrong."
Mandy was trembling with anger.
Michael patted her shoulder. "Alright Mandy, they're not wrong. You shouldn't be angry."
Mandy's body was shaking. She wasn't angry because they called a doctor, but because they were preventing her from leaving! But she couldn't say that out loud, so she had to endure it silently.
Soon, the doctor arrived.
Under everyone's watchful eyes, Mandy didn't dare to refuse and had to let the doctor examine her.
After the examination, the doctor said, "This young lady is fine, just a minor scrape on her arm. A band-aid will do."
"Got it; escort the doctor out." Daphne said to the waiter.
After the doctor and waiter left, Rachel flipped her hair and said, "Alright, the farce is over. Since Mandy is fine, let's continue dealing with the earlier matter and find out how she fell as soon as possible."
"No matter what you say, it doesn't change the fact that you pushed Mandy." Monica pointed at Rachel.
Michael gave Monica a cold look, feeling a bit of disgust. He inexplicably disliked those who accused Rachel.
Ethan took over, "Monica is right; there's no need to argue about this. Daphne, Rachel is here because you invited her. But with her character, you should kick her out to avoid ruining this banquet."
Michael frowned. "Mr. Brown, this matter isn't clear yet."
"Not clear? Miss Turner explained it clearly, and so many people saw it. Michael, are you protecting your ex-wife?" Ethan glared.
Mandy sobbed a few times in distress.
Michael felt irritated, tugged at his tie, and said in a low voice, "I'm not biased towards anyone. Everything needs evidence. Even if she saw it, so what? Is there any evidence?"
Rachel looked at him in surprise, not expecting him to say something so fair. This wasn't like him; he always trusted Mandy the most.
"Michael, I think you're protecting your ex-wife." Ethan turned his gaze to Rachel and said maliciously, "Rachel, I didn't expect you to be so good at seducing men. A few men around you aren't enough, and now you've even seduced your ex-husband to protect you."
"You old bastard! What did you say? Do you believe I'll beat you up?" John was furious and clenched his fists, ready to charge.
"John, stop!" Rachel pursed her red lips and loudly stopped him.
Joseph stepped forward to hold John back. "Calm down, John. I know you're mad, I'm mad too, but you can't just go around hitting people. We didn't see how Mandy fell, but if you hit him now, everyone will see, and it'll be a big mess."
Robert, although a bit regretful that John couldn't teach Ethan a lesson, had already decided to give him a lesson later.
Ethan, unaware that he was being targeted, took a step back and pointed at John in anger. "How dare you try to hit me! Daphne, don't you screen your guests? Do you let anyone in?"
Daphne smiled. "You're right. I didn't screen guests before inviting you. That was my mistake."
Her smile vanished, and in a serious tone, she shouted, "Get the Brown family out of here, now!"
Everyone was stunned. People started to discuss, even Rachel and others were puzzled. They originally thought they would be the ones kicked out, but it turned out to be Ethan and Mandy.
Michael looked at Daphne, lowered his eyes, seemed to understand something, and tiredly rubbed his brow, letting go of Mandy's hand.
"Mandy, I'm very disappointed." He suddenly said.
"Michael." Mandy panicked and reached out to grab his sleeve, but he avoided her.
Mandy's mood instantly became heavy and uneasy. Her intuition was right; there was definitely something off about Daphne's smile at that moment.
Sure enough, the current situation was completely beyond her expectations.
Ethan's expression was grim. "Daphne, you're not joking, are you?"
"Of course not." Daphne still smiled at him.
Ethan's mouth twitched. "Can you explain why? We're obviously the victims here. Why are you kicking us out? If you don't give a reason, the Jones family will be at odds with the Brown family from now on."
"Mr. Brown, are you threatening me?" Daphne forced a smile.
Ethan's voice was tense. "I wouldn't dare, but this seems unfair."
"Relax, I always play fair. The first reason for kicking you out is your daughter," Daphne said, glancing at Mandy.
