Chapter 106 Ethan's Arrest
At 2 PM, Rachel got some shocking news: the museum had been attacked. A bunch of thugs trashed the new foundation, saying the area was under their protection and demanding protection fees. When they got turned down, they went on a rampage. Eventually, they all got busted.
"Serves them right!" Lily said, arms crossed and looking pleased.
Even though the two construction teams were from the same contractor, they had different clients. The team building the factory couldn't step in unless told to, but the museum's team could jump into action right away.
Rachel leaned back in her chair with a smirk. "So, what happened to those thugs now?"
Lily replied, "They've been hauled off to the police station. The higher-ups are taking it super seriously. The interrogation's gonna be intense. I wonder if those guys can handle it."
Rachel nodded. "Got it. Station someone outside the police station and let me know the moment there's any news."
"Will do," Lily said and left.
Meanwhile, inside the police station, the thugs were scared out of their minds, faces pale. They figured they'd get caught but never thought they'd be facing SWAT officers with heavy weapons and tasers. They'd never seen anything like it.
Under the SWAT officers' grilling, the thugs spilled everything, saying they were following orders from someone. Following this lead, the SWAT team quickly zeroed in on Ethan.
During a meeting, Ethan was taken away by several officers, looking shocked and confused, not understanding how he got exposed.
News of Ethan's arrest spread like wildfire online, with everyone speculating about what crime the chairman of TriStar Corporation had committed. In no time, TriStar Corporation's stock price nosedived, and the board members were in a panic.
On the flip side, at Skyline Corporation, Rachel and John were thrilled with the news. John even popped open a bottle of red wine to celebrate. He laughed. "Ethan's actions are probably making TriStar Corporation's shareholders question his management skills."
Rachel swirled her wine glass and smirked, "It's a pity I don't have enough funds; otherwise, I'd jump on this chance to grab TriStar Corporation's scattered shares." Now was the perfect time to act.
John laughed and moved closer. "I'll fund you."
Rachel shrugged. "Forget it. Even if we buy now, it won't make much difference."
"Alright," John said, a bit disappointed, as he went back to his seat. "By the way, if it weren't for your online friend helping you team up with the government, taking down Ethan wouldn't have been this easy."
"You just reminded me," Rachel muttered, pulling out her phone.
John looked puzzled, "What's up?"
"To say thank you." Rachel grinned, opened Z-H, and typed: [Thank you.]
Meanwhile, in the meeting room, Michael's phone buzzed. Though the sound was faint, it was crystal clear in the silence. Everyone's eyes turned to him. His eyes flickered slightly, and he said calmly, "Continue with your reports."
"Yes," everyone mumbled, heads down, and went back to discussing work.
Michael picked up his phone and saw Rachel's thank-you message but played dumb, replying: [Thank me for what?]
Rachel quickly responded: [For your suggestion last time, which helped me deal with Ethan. I'm very grateful.]
Z-H: [You already thanked me last time.]
Rachel: [Still, I want to thank you again. When are you coming back?]
'Coming back?' Michael frowned slightly, not quite getting her meaning but decided to roll with it.
Michael: [Not sure yet.]
Rachel felt a bit let down as she typed: [Alright, let me know when you return. I'll host a dinner to thank you for your help.]
Michael smiled as he typed: [It's a deal.]
Rachel then ended the conversation and gently set her phone aside. John, with a playful smile and a hint of jealousy, asked, "Chatting for so long?"
Rachel caught the jealousy in his tone and rolled her eyes. "Alright, aren't you going back to the company? Hurry up."
"Just trying to get rid of me!" John exaggeratedly stood up, speaking in a mock hurt tone.
Rachel, both helpless and amused, decided to ignore him and grabbed a document to read.
At the Brown Manor, the atmosphere was gloomy. Charlotte, upon hearing about Ethan's arrest, was at a loss, her eyes filled with tears.
She sat on the living room sofa, a box of tissues on her lap. The coffee table in front of her was piled with crumpled tissues. "Mandy, what should we do?" Charlotte asked, her eyes red, looking at Mandy.
Mandy, though not crying, bit her lip and said firmly, "I don't know either. I'll call the shareholders in the company to see if we can find a way to bail Dad out."
"Then hurry up," Charlotte urged anxiously. As a housewife, she had always relied on Ethan. The news that Ethan was being held at the police station left her feeling unsettled.
Mandy pulled out her phone and called Brian Allen, a shareholder who was on good terms with the Brown family.
The call was quickly connected. However, a few minutes later, Mandy hung up with a heavy expression. Seeing this, Charlotte felt a sense of foreboding but still held onto a glimmer of hope, asking, "How did it go?"
