Chapter 197

Gregory noticed Michael's concern for Rachel and grew serious. He thought, 'Michael cares about Rachel more than I thought. What about Mandy? Does he still care for her?'

"She doesn't have any major health issues. With some good rest, she'll be fine. Alright, I have work to do. Rachel will be transferred to a regular ward soon. Once she wakes up, you can leave." With that, Gregory walked away.

Shortly after, a nurse wheeled Rachel out.

John and Joseph quickly checked on Rachel and, as Gregory had said, she hadn't had surgery and looked rosy, which finally put them at ease.

Although Michael didn't go up to check, he could clearly see Rachel on the gurney from his wheelchair. Seeing that she was okay, he felt much more at ease.

Soon, Rachel was moved to a regular ward. After the nurse settled her in, Joseph and John eagerly entered the room.

Michael didn't go in; he just sat in his wheelchair, watching them from a distance.

Seeing how concerned they were for Rachel, Michael felt a bit envious and even slightly annoyed.

Noticing Michael's displeasure, David couldn't help but speak up, "Mr. Smith, should we go in too?"

"No," Michael said, looking down. He thought, 'With so many people around her, she probably doesn't need me.'

"Let's go," Michael said, a hint of jealousy in his voice.

"Alright then," David said, gripping the wheelchair handles and turning towards the elevator. He thought, 'When will he finally realize who he truly loves? By the time Ms. Williams falls for someone else, it'll be too late.'

Joseph noticed Michael leaving but didn't say anything. After all, They were rivals in love.

Ten minutes later, the anesthesia wore off, and Rachel woke up. She blinked at the white ceiling and the blanket covering her, realizing where she was.

"Rachel, you're awake," John said excitedly, putting down the water bottle and rushing over.

Rachel turned to him. "When did I come out of the operating room?"

"About ten minutes ago," John thought for a moment and replied.

Rachel was stunned, thinking, 'I woke up so quickly; this doesn't seem right.'

"What's wrong, Rachel?" John asked, concerned.

Rachel masked her surprise and shook her head. "Nothing, I'm just surprised I woke up so quickly. By the way, my surgery..."

Before she could finish, Rachel quickly touched her stomach. It didn't hurt! Was it local anesthesia? But if so, she shouldn't have fallen asleep. The more she thought about it, the stranger it seemed. She quickly lifted the blanket and raised her shirt to check.

Seeing no wounds on her stomach, she was even more puzzled. "Did I really not have surgery?" She looked at John, confused.

John was staring at her abdomen. Hearing her question, he coughed and smiled. "Of course not."

Rachel sat up suddenly, her eyebrows furrowed. "Why?"

"The doctor said your current health condition isn't suitable for surgery, so they didn't do it. They'll wait until you're better," John explained.

Rachel's lips moved slightly. "I see," she said, lowering her head and touching her stomach with a worried look. She wasn't sure if she had the resolve for surgery later. Hearing the baby was still there, she felt a bit relieved.

"Rachel, you're awake," Joseph's voice came from the door.

Rachel looked up at him and nodded.

Joseph walked in with a smile. "That was quick. I just went to handle your discharge paperwork, and you're already awake."

"Thank you, and sorry for the trouble," Rachel smiled at him.

"No trouble at all, just a small matter," Joseph waved his hand. "Since you're awake, let's get you discharged."

Rachel was about to nod when a knock on the door drew their attention. They turned to see Gregory in his white coat.

Seeing everyone looking at him, Gregory put his hand down and back into his coat pocket. "Awake?"

"What are you doing here?" John frowned, clearly unwelcoming.

Gregory ignored him and looked at Rachel. "I have something to say to you."

Rachel squinted and nodded. "Okay."

"Could you ask them to step out for a moment?" Gregory pointed at John and Joseph.

Joseph pursed his lips. "Why can't you say it in front of us?"

"Yeah, why can't we hear it?" John echoed.

Gregory ignored them and looked directly at Rachel. She knew he wouldn't speak unless the others left. Helplessly, she rubbed her temples and said, "Could you two please step out for a moment?"

"Rachel," John said, reluctant.

Rachel said softly, "Please go out."

John wanted to say more, but Joseph pulled him back. "Alright, we're out."

John had no choice but to agree. Before leaving, he lowered his voice and reminded Rachel, "Be careful of him, Rachel. He's close with Mandy. If he tries anything, just call out, and we'll come in to save you."

Rachel couldn't help but laugh, feeling warm inside. "Okay, I know."

Then John straightened up and left the room with Joseph. As they passed Gregory, John glared at him in warning.

Gregory smirked and, after they left, said, "Your knights are pretty good."

"They're not my knights, just good friends," Rachel corrected him.Gregory shrugged, not arguing, and sat down by the bed.

Rachel looked at him. "What do you want to say? I don't think we have anything to talk about. We didn't even know each other before."

Before today, she had only heard of Gregory's name. After all, he was a genius in the medical field, very famous. But she had never spoken to him. So she was quite surprised that Gregory had something to say to her.

"Indeed, before today, I didn't think there was anything to say to you. After all, we're not on the same path. But now, it's different," Gregory said, looking at her left wrist.
