Chapter 162
A guy's voice came through the phone. "Still no sign of her."
Mandy stomped her foot hard. It had been two days, and they still hadn't found her sister Grace. These people were useless.
"You've got two more days. If you can't find her by then, you're in big trouble!" she snapped.
After hanging up, she quickly changed and headed straight to the Smith Corporation. Since the proposal change had already been exposed, she needed to find Michael to explain and calm him down.
When she got to the Smith Corporation, she made her way to the CEO's private elevator like usual. But the receptionist stopped her. "Miss Brown, do you have an appointment?"
Mandy couldn't believe it. "Appointment? What are you talking about?"
"Yes, you need an appointment," the receptionist nodded with a smile, thinking, 'Did they break up? Why else wouldn't Michael let her up?'
"Are you new here?" Mandy's face darkened.
"No, I'm not," the receptionist shook her head.
"Then why are you stopping me? Don't you know who I am?" Mandy pointed at herself.
She was Michael's fiancée, the future chairwoman and CEO's wife of the Smith Corporation. How dare this receptionist stop her!
Facing Mandy's aggressive attitude, the receptionist felt a lot of pressure but still tried to keep a professional smile. "Miss Brown, I know who you are. But these are Mr. Smith's special instructions. He said that from now on, you need to make an appointment before coming to the company. If you don't have an appointment, we can't let you in. If you don't believe me, you can call Mr. Smith directly to confirm."
After saying that, the receptionist stood in front of the private elevator, not letting Mandy go upstairs. This made Mandy furious.
Fuming, Mandy turned to the lobby lounge, took out her phone, and dialed Michael's number.
Michael was in a meeting when he heard the ringtone. Seeing Mandy's caller ID, he frowned, his face turning cold, and he hung up.
On the other end, Mandy was stunned to see him refuse the call. She thought, 'How dare he!' Angry and a bit uneasy, she wondered what had happened. Unwilling to give up, she gritted her teeth and dialed again.
Meanwhile, the executives in the meeting room saw everything clearly. Someone couldn't help but joke, "Mr. Smith, you should answer your fiancée's call. What if it's something urgent?"
This remark drew a lot of attention. Especially Rachel, sitting in the corner, watched the scene with great interest. She had heard that Michael and Mandy had always been very close, but now it seemed there was a rift. Did something happen between them?
"Sorry everyone, I need to take this call," realizing that he couldn't continue the meeting without addressing this, Michael got up and left the room.
Outside, he picked up the missed call. "What's so urgent?"
Mandy's slightly resentful voice came through. "Why didn't you answer my call? Are you mad at me?"
"I was in a meeting," he replied briefly, with little emotion.
Mandy said cautiously, "I heard the proposal change was discovered, so I rushed to the Smith Corporation to explain. But they wouldn't let me in. Did you tell them to stop me?"
"Are you at the company now?" Michael didn't answer her question directly but asked her instead.
"Yes, in the lobby." Mandy nodded slightly.
Michael rubbed his temples. "I know. Stay there; I'll talk to you after the meeting." With that, he hung up the phone.
Mandy stomped her foot in frustration. This was the first time Michael had ever hung up on her.
Back in the meeting room, everyone was whispering. When Michael walked in, they immediately went silent.
Seeing the mockery in Rachel's eyes, he knew they had been gossiping about him. He frowned slightly and said in a low voice, "Let's continue."
The meeting dragged on for over an hour before it finally ended. As usual, Rachel was the last to leave. Just as she reached the door, Michael called out, "Wait a moment."
"Is there something you need, Mr. Smith?" she stopped.
Michael handed her a document. She took it, puzzled. "What's this?"
"This was originally Ethan's plan, but it got mixed up with yours. I made some modifications and notes. It might help you," he explained calmly.
Opening it, she saw it was indeed filled with red pen marks. After a few seconds, she closed the document and looked at Michael, confused. "But this was someone else's. Why did you go to so much trouble to revise it?"
"Not just yours. I made suggestions for everyone's," Michael said flatly.
"Got it." Rachel nodded, not thinking much of it.
As she turned to leave, Michael added, "Don't be late for the contract signing tomorrow."
"Okay, goodbye," Rachel said politely and left.
Watching her disappear, Michael raised his hand but didn't move, then lowered it.
Just then, David walked over and said, "Mr. Smith, psychologist Harold Rogers has boarded the plane."
Michael's eyes lit up. "Is everything at the clinic arranged?"
"Everything is prepared according to his requirements. As soon as he arrives, he can start working."
"Good, let's go."
When they arrived at the lobby, Mandy was already waiting. "Michael!" Seeing them, Mandy quickly rushed over and hugged Michael tightly.
They received many curious looks. Usually, these stares wouldn't affect him, but today, Michael felt irritated and uneasy. "Alright Mandy, let's talk in the office."
In the office, Mandy couldn't wait to explain, "I did that during an episode of my dissociative identity disorder. I was too impulsive when I encountered Rachel, which triggered the manifestation of an alternate personality."
Michael sighed and decided not to pursue the matter further. "Forget it. Since your father has admitted his mistake and apologized to everyone, and I've already ordered that no one is allowed to enter my area without permission, consider it a form of punishment for you."
Mandy was not satisfied. "Can we handle it differently? I think..."
"No, since we chose to treat everyone fairly, there are no exceptions. However, I will still give you some consideration in other aspects."
Reluctantly accepting this arrangement, Mandy breathed a slight sigh of relief and kissed his cheek to show her gratitude.
Feeling the wet touch on his face, Michael instinctively wiped it and asked casually, "Do you remember you promised to see a psychologist?"
"I remember, but are you in such a hurry to find a doctor for me?" Mandy felt a sudden panic.
Michael nodded affirmatively and told her, "Dr. Rogers is on his way here. He should arrive by tomorrow night. I'll go to the hospital with you then."
Mandy was flustered. "You've already found a doctor?"
"Yes." Michael nodded.
Hearing his answer, Mandy felt a surge of anger. She took a deep breath, trying to suppress her anger, and looked at Michael with a hint of accusation. "You found a doctor without telling me?"
Seeing Mandy's increasingly tense expression, Michael asked, "Are you afraid of seeing a doctor?"
