Chapter 192
"Uncle bullied me." Before Joseph could respond, Kade quickly hugged Rachel's waist and started complaining.
Rachel glanced at Joseph, her eyes filled with suspicion.
Joseph quickly raised his hands. "No, how could I bully a little kid? I was just playing with him."
"Kade's face is all red, and you say you were just playing?" Rachel touched Kade's cheek with concern. "You're just like Michael."
At the mention of this name, a mix of emotions flashed in Joseph's eyes. "Michael? What happened to him?"
"He also pinched Kade's face last night, making it all red. You guys just don't know your own strength," Rachel said discontentedly.
Joseph frowned. "He pinched Kade's face? After I left last night, you saw Michael?"
Rachel handed Kade a small spoon and then sat down. "Yes, Kade was hungry, so I took him to eat. We ran into Michael at the restaurant. Later, Kade needed to use the restroom, and since I couldn't go into the men's restroom, I asked Michael to help."
"I see." Joseph nodded.
Kade took a sip of porridge and suddenly interjected, "Uncle Michael got hurt yesterday too."
"Hurt?" Joseph looked at Rachel in surprise. "What happened?"
Rachel gently rubbed her temples and briefly explained what happened last night.
After listening, Joseph sighed. "You two are really unlucky to run into such a rare accident."
"Yes," Rachel said with a bitter smile, feeling quite helpless herself.
"Good thing you weren't hurt." Joseph looked at her and smiled slightly.
Rachel forced a smile. "Michael shielded me. I'm thinking about how to thank him."
She didn't want to thank him in person, fearing that Mandy, that crazy woman, would cause trouble if she found out.
Joseph took a bite of his sandwich and said nonchalantly, "It's no big deal. He didn't do it just for you. Just buy some care products and send them over. His foot is injured, and he needs those things."
"Care products?" Rachel hesitated.
"Yes, his foot is injured. Care products are the most suitable." Joseph nodded.
Rachel thought for a moment, took a sip of milk, and replied, "Alright, I'll arrange for someone to buy some and send them over."
After breakfast, the three of them went downstairs.
Downstairs, Joseph held Kade's hand in front of the car and looked back at Rachel. "Thanks for taking care of Kade last night."
"It was no trouble." Rachel stepped forward, ruffled Kade's hair, and smiled. "I really like Kade."
"I like you too. Can I come to see you often?" Kade asked with bright eyes.
"Of course." Rachel smiled and nodded.
Joseph squinted at Kade and teased, "As long as I have time, I'll definitely bring you over."
Kade rolled his eyes inwardly, thinking, 'He's just using this as an excuse to see Aunt Rachel. Oh well, I'll let it slide for now to help him win her over sooner.'
"By the way, you have surgery at the hospital today, right?" Joseph looked at Rachel's belly.
Rachel's smile faded, and she nodded reluctantly. "Yes, this afternoon."
"I'll be at the hospital with you. Don't say no. Even though John is there, an extra hand is always helpful." Joseph said firmly.
Seeing his insistence, Rachel had to agree, "Alright, if you want to come, then come."
"That's settled then. I'll take Kade back first. See you this afternoon." Joseph waved goodbye to her.
Kade also raised his little hand and waved. "Goodbye, Uncle's girlfriend!"
"Goodbye, Kade." Rachel smiled in response.
After they drove away, Rachel checked the time and drove to Skyline Corporation.
"Ms. Williams, here's today's schedule." Lily followed behind Rachel, reporting.
Rachel glanced at the schedule as she walked. Handing it back to Lily, she said, "Cancel my afternoon appointments; I need to go to the hospital. And reschedule the next few days."
Since she needs to rest in the hospital after surgery, her upcoming schedule needs to be reassessed, and the less important appointments should be canceled.
"Yes." Lily nodded in agreement.
Rachel opened her office door and instructed, "Also, buy some high-quality care products, especially for foot injuries, and send them to Michael. Charge it to my personal account."
"Send them to Mr. Smith?" Lily looked surprised.
Rachel suddenly wanted to send something to Michael. Was she planning to remarry?
Seeing Lily's expression, Rachel knew she was overthinking. "He's injured, and he's our biggest partner at Skyline Corporation, as well as the main person in charge of the new energy project. We can't ignore it."
"I see." Lily suddenly understood.
Rachel secretly breathed a sigh of relief but maintained her composure, saying, "Go ahead."
"Okay, I'll get on it." Lily nodded and left.
Watching Lily leave, Rachel's eyes flickered. She didn't explain the reason to avoid Lily's wild guesses.
After all, a former husband and wife appearing together at an amusement park late at night would seem ambiguous no matter how it was explained. So, it was better not to say anything.
Rachel sat down and began to handle her work.
At Smith Corporation, word of Michael's injury spread quickly, as many had seen him enter the building in a wheelchair.
As a result, many company owners either called to express their concern or directly sent a bunch of high-end care products.
David had just returned from seeing a client when he was stopped by the receptionist.
"What's up?" David walked over.
The receptionist pointed to a pile of expensive care products nearby. "Mr. Wilson, another company president sent gifts."
David looked at the pile of things, feeling troubled. "Didn't we say on the website not to send gifts? Why are there still so many? We haven't even dealt with the previous ones."
"Maybe they didn't see the online notice." The receptionist shrugged.
David adjusted his glasses. "Alright, who sent them this time?"
"Skyline Corporation." The receptionist replied.
David was stunned. "Skyline Corporation?"
"Yes." The receptionist nodded.
David immediately straightened up, his expression becoming serious. "I see. Give me the gift list, and I'll take it up."
"Okay." The receptionist didn't know the significance behind this but quickly handed over the gift list seeing David's serious demeanor.
David took a look, put it in his pocket, picked up the pile of care products, and headed to the elevator.
Soon, he arrived at the CEO's office.
David knocked and entered, only to see Michael look up. Seeing the gifts in his hands, Michael's brows furrowed instantly. "Didn't I say to return these things directly?"
"This time is different," David said, a spark in his eyes.
Michael frowned. "Why?"
"It's from Ms. Williams." David observed his expression carefully.
Watching Michael's confusion turn to surprise, David couldn't help but smile inwardly.
