Chapter 180

Michael thought, 'Why are Joseph and Rachel here so late? And who's that kid with them?'

"Mr. Smith, should we go say hi?" David noticed Rachel and the others, suggesting cautiously.

Michael didn't even glance up. "No need."

David shrugged, thinking, 'He's just torturing himself by staring at Rachel. What's the point?'

David sighed inwardly and adjusted his glasses. "Ms. Williams and Mr. Anderson with a kid—they look like a family."

The phrase "family" hit Michael hard. Michael's face darkened, and his tone turned icy. "They don't look like a family at all."

"But I think they do," David said, hearing the jealousy in Michael's voice and chuckling.

Michael's lips tightened. "I think you need new glasses."

David pretended not to understand and cleared his throat. "Mr. Smith, what does this have to do with my glasses? I'm just saying what I see. And it's so late, they might be here for a date, right?"

Michael's eyes narrowed, and his fists clenched.

Seeing this, David's eyes lit up. "Ms. Williams and Mr. Anderson are heading in. Looks like they're definitely on a date."

"Shut up!" Michael snapped, his face twisted with anger. After a sharp shout, he strode towards Rachel and Joseph. David followed closely, thinking, 'He's actually going!'

He knew Michael loved Rachel and was jealous of her being close to other men, even if Michael hadn't realized it himself. He wanted to help Michael and hoped he and Rachel would get back together. Mandy didn't deserve Michael—not because of her background, but her character. He feared Mandy might cause trouble for Michael in the future.

"Michael?" Joseph was telling Rachel about Kade's funny stories when he suddenly saw Michael walking over, raising an eyebrow in surprise.

Rachel also turned around, puzzled. She thought, 'Why is he here so late? Is he here to meet Mandy?'

Michael glanced at Rachel, nodding slightly in response to Joseph.

Joseph took Kade from Rachel's arms. "Michael, what are you doing here?"

"This is an amusement park developed by the Smith family. We're planning to build an observatory here, so I'm checking if the night view is suitable for expansion. And you?" Michael narrowed his eyes.

Before Rachel and Joseph could speak, Kade chimed in, "Uncle and his girlfriend are here for a date."

Michael's face darkened as he looked at Joseph and Rachel in disbelief. 'Are they really together?' he wondered.

Rachel was puzzled by Michael's expression, tilting her head in confusion.

Joseph cleared his throat. "Don't listen to the kid's nonsense; we're just here to discuss some matters." He couldn't let Michael think he was after Rachel. What if Rachel found out and didn't want to see him anymore?

A complex emotion flashed in Michael's eyes. He thought, 'What kind of discussion needs to happen at an amusement park at night?'

"Joseph, let's go in first; let Kade play for a while before we talk," Rachel said, checking the time.

Joseph quickly agreed, pulling Rachel towards the entrance. "Alright, Michael, we'll go first. You continue with your work."

Rachel nodded and walked towards the amusement park with Joseph.

Michael watched them walk away, feeling a pang of heartache. He wished he could take Joseph's place and have that child as his own.

"Mr. Smith, should we go in too?" David, who had been silent, asked. He thought Michael would break up Joseph and Rachel, but he did nothing.

"Yes," Michael replied in a low voice.

On the other side, Rachel and Joseph brought Kade to the Ferris wheel. Kade wasn't interested in other rides, insisting on riding the Ferris wheel alone.

Rachel and Joseph wanted to accompany him, but Kade refused, saying he didn't want to disturb their date. Joseph thought, 'Kade's a great wingman!'

"Sorry Rachel, it seems Kade really thinks we're on a date," Joseph said, looking embarrassed.

"It's okay, he's just a kid." Rachel smiled, not minding. Then she pointed to the chairs in the public rest area. "Let's go sit there and wait for Kade."

"Okay." Joseph nodded.

Halfway there, Joseph saw a coffee shop and told Rachel to find a seat first while he went to buy coffee.

A few minutes later, Joseph returned with two cups of hot coffee. Rachel took the cup, smiling. "You're so considerate."

"Actually, I've only dated two girlfriends. I might have a lot of female friends because I'm popular, but I assure you, there's nothing going on with them. Those are just rumors," Joseph explained earnestly.

Rachel smiled. "I believe you."

Joseph took a sip of coffee. "I don't want you to misunderstand me."

Rachel was a bit surprised. "Why?"

Joseph gave her a warm smile. "You'll know in the future."

Rachel raised an eyebrow. She couldn't shake the feeling that there was something hidden behind his smile.
