Chapter 138

"I really didn't think there'd be snakes on this mountain. Just my luck to run into one," Rachel said with a wry smile. Even though she was calmer now, Rachel still felt a bit uneasy thinking about the snake.

John, hands behind his head, said nonchalantly, "Blame Mandy. If she hadn't jumped up and scared the snake, none of this would've happened. But hey, at least it bit her in the end. Makes me feel a bit better."

"Actually, I think Mandy scared the snake on purpose," Ella said, stroking her chin.

Everyone was stunned. "Are you sure?" John stared at Ella.

"No way," James said, dumbfounded.

Joseph put his arm around James's shoulder. "Why not? Remember what she did to Rachel? This isn't surprising."

James was speechless and looked at Rachel. Rachel frowned, deep in thought.

Ella nodded and continued, "Yeah, I think she did it on purpose. When the snake lunged at Ms. Williams, I saw her smile. She didn't look surprised at all. I think she saw the snake and scared it on purpose."

"If that's true, then she deserved to get bitten," Joseph said with a cold smile.

"That's definitely it!" John said angrily, slapping his thigh. "I knew she'd try to harm Rachel again."

"Mandy is so sneaky," Ella sighed. Even though Rachel had divorced Michael and he was now all about Mandy, did Mandy really need to keep targeting Rachel like this?

"James." Joseph looked at James. "you saw what happened today. Be careful and don't provoke Mandy. If she wants revenge, she won't spare you either."

"I know." James nodded quickly. He knew Mandy was ruthless, but seeing it firsthand made him a bit scared.

"No, we can't let this go. Mandy has to pay," John said, clenching his fists.

Rachel pursed her lips. "How do we punish her? There's no proof she did it on purpose, and only Ella can testify. Mandy could just say we're framing her."

"Rachel's right." Joseph nodded. "Without direct evidence, we can't do anything to her."

"So we just let it go?" John asked, frustrated.

Rachel squinted. "Of course not. If she can make sure there's no evidence against her, we can make sure she has no evidence against us."

"Rachel, what are you planning?" John asked, excitement in his eyes.

Rachel beckoned them closer. Just as Rachel was about to speak, John interrupted, "Wait!"

"What's wrong?" Rachel looked at him.

John pushed James aside. "Rachel, he's Michael's brother, one of their people. We can't let him hear this."

"I'm not one of their people!" James retorted loudly.

"Aren't you Michael's brother?" John raised an eyebrow.

"I am, but I don't support him being with Mandy. Unless they break up, I'm not on his side," James said with a huff.

John glanced at him. "Are you serious?"

"Of course!" James nodded firmly.

"Then I still won't let you hear our plan," John said, pouting.

"You..." James was so angry he almost wanted to fight.

Rachel looked at the arguing pair with a headache. "Alright, John. Are you really going to argue with a kid? It doesn't matter if he hears."

"But Rachel, what if he slips up?" John said worriedly.

Rachel looked at James sharply. "Will you tell them?"

James shook his head repeatedly. "Absolutely not, I swear!"

Seeing his determination, Rachel nodded. "Then there's no problem."

Seeing her decision made, John shrugged and stopped trying to dissuade her. He cast a warning glance at James. "James, you better not let this slip, or don't blame me for causing you trouble."

"You don't stand a chance," James said smugly.

John rolled his eyes. "We'll see about that."

Rachel quickly laid out her plan. After hearing it, everyone smiled knowingly.

"This is a solid plan," John praised.

Ella agreed, "Yeah, it sounds pretty exciting."

"I didn't expect you to come up with something like this," Joseph said, looking at Rachel with a half-smile.

"Desperate times call for desperate measures," Rachel said, flipping her hair to reveal her graceful neck. Joseph paused for a moment.

"Rachel, let me handle the task of luring her out," James volunteered, raising his hand.

Rachel looked at him and said, "Of course, it has to be you. Because of your relationship with them, you're the least likely to arouse suspicion."

"Got it!" James smiled happily when Rachel agreed.

At that moment, the cable car finally arrived. They ended their conversation and took the cable car down the mountain. As soon as they returned to the villa, Rachel saw the chef escorting the doctor out.

"Looks like Mandy is fine," Ella said, crossing her arms.

John sneered, "Someone as sneaky as her wouldn't die so easily."

"Alright, enough. Let's go inside," Rachel said, turning her gaze away and entering the villa. John and the others followed her in.

Michael was sitting in the living room on the phone. When he saw them come in, his eyes lit up slightly.

"Michael, is Miss Brown okay?" Joseph politely asked, even though he had already guessed that Mandy was probably fine.

"She's fine; the snake wasn't venomous," Michael said, putting down his phone.

"What a pity," Ella suddenly blurted out.

Michael frowned, and an icy aura instantly enveloped the room. He first cast a frosty glance at Ella, then turned to Joseph, his voice utterly devoid of warmth. "Control your people."

Before Joseph could respond, John laughed and said, "I agree with Ella. It's a pity it wasn't a venomous snake. Mr. Smith, Mandy getting bitten was entirely her own doing."

"What do you mean?" Michael squinted his eyes, realizing that this matter wasn't simple.

John put his arm around Rachel's shoulder. He said, "What I mean is, Mandy noticed the snake early on and tried to get it to bite Rachel. But Ella saved her, and the snake ended up biting Mandy instead."

Michael's eyes widened, clearly shocked by the truth. He looked at Rachel. "Is this true?"

Rachel looked away indifferently, not bothering to respond. Michael felt a bit stifled, but his expression remained cold.

"Of course it's true. Do you think we'd lie to you? We're not that bored." John rolled his eyes.

Michael's gaze swept over everyone present, confirming from their expressions that John was telling the truth. His clenched fists showed his anger.

"Mr. Smith, how do you plan to handle this? You owe us an explanation," John said with a cold smile, looking at the downcast Michael.

Michael pursed his lips and stood up. "I'll take care of it."

"Good, we'll be waiting for your explanation. I hope you won't disappoint us, Mr. Smith," John said with a smile.

Michael ignored him and turned to go upstairs.

"Michael, wait for me!" James hurriedly followed. "I need to talk to you." He had to persuade Michael to break up with Mandy.

John grinned and moved closer to Rachel. "Rachel, what do you think James will say to Michael?"

"Who knows? I'm not interested," Rachel said with a slight smile, shaking off his hand. "I'm going to my room to change."

With that, she went upstairs. Only Joseph, Ella, and John were left in the living room. They exchanged glances.

Ella yawned. "I'm going to take a bath and go to sleep."

"I'm going to ride a horse for a bit," Joseph said. Ella went upstairs, and Joseph left the villa.

"Where should I go?" John muttered. Then he looked around, sighed, and decided to sit on the couch and watch TV.
