Chapter 34
Michael was checking out some old letters when he heard a knock on his bedroom door. It swung open, and in walked Mandy.
"I saw your light was still on, so I figured you were up," Mandy said, strolling in with a navy blue robe that showed off her collarbone and a bit of tan skin. She had on some perfume too, making her look pretty tempting.
She set a cup of fruit tea on the table and leaned in closer. "I made you some fruit tea. It'll help you stay awake while you work."
"I'm actually done," Michael replied, opening a drawer to show her the letters inside. "When I was getting the ink, I found these old letters. I didn't realize we had written so many."
Mandy felt a bit nervous seeing the letters but quickly hid it. "Those are from like six or seven years ago. Why do you still have them?"
"They've always meant a lot to me," Michael said, his fingers brushing over the letters with a soft smile. He thought, 'Because you were the first woman to make my heart race.'
Mandy leaned in to hug him, her body pressing against his. She whispered, "Michael, since I'm already here with you, there's no need for these letters. Let's have the maid get rid of them tomorrow, okay?"
Michael didn't answer right away, and Mandy pouted, trying to look upset. "Keeping these letters means you're always looking back. Am I, a living person, not as important as these letters? Do you prefer writing to me to being with me?"
Seeing her so upset, Michael felt a pang of guilt. Mandy was right. She was already with him, so whether he kept the letters or not didn't really matter anymore. Michael stroked her hair. "Alright, we'll have the maid take care of them tomorrow."
A faint smile appeared on Mandy's face as she breathed in his scent, feeling her heart flutter. She soon gathered the courage to lean in and kiss his Adam's apple. Michael's body tensed for a moment. When Mandy kissed his chin, he gently pushed her away.
Mandy had already loosened the belt of her robe. Faced with her temptation, Michael's expression didn't change, nor did he look at her for even a second longer. Instead, he helped her put the robe back on.
"Michael, we're already living together." Feeling a bit awkward after being rejected, Mandy continued, "We can do anything. Or do you find me repulsive?"
They were already living together, so doing intimate things was natural. However, faced with her teasing, he felt no desire at all. He felt a bit frustrated. But seeing the redness in Mandy's eyes, he could only comfort her softly. "You've just recovered and still need to take care of your body. Let's talk about this later."
"Okay." Mandy nodded, leaning into his arms, but a trace of worry crept into her heart.
Ever since signing the contract with Wonderworks Technologies, Rachel had smooth sailing. She was busy in her office when Lily knocked and came in, handing her a document. "Ms. Williams, this is from Mr. Anderson."
"What could he possibly send me?" Rachel muttered, taking the envelope and opening it.
Flipping through the documents, Rachel found detailed information about Blue Sky Ventures, which appeared to be prepared for an acquisition.
Rachel immediately called John to tell him about it.
John said, "Acquiring Blue Sky Ventures is indeed a good plan, but my company has had a lot of cash outflows recently, so I don't have much money to give you."
"Nine million dollars should be enough, right?" Rachel asked. She saw that the estimated acquisition price was between nine million dollars and fourteen million dollars.
John blurted out, "Where'd you get all that cash?"
Rachel replied, "Robert gave it to me."
John chuckled, "I didn't know being a male model paid so well. If I ever go broke, I'll just become a male model."
Rachel shot back, "Yeah, right. You'd be lucky to make ten grand."
John pouted, "In your eyes, everyone's better looking than me. But seriously, if Joseph had someone prepare the acquisition documents, why didn't he just buy Blue Sky Ventures himself? Why hand them over to you?"
John muttered, "Is he into you or something?"
Rachel didn't want to hear any more of his nonsense and hung up.
A little while later, John sent a message.
John: [Rachel, today's my birthday. You always said you were too busy to celebrate with me after getting married. Now that you're divorced, are you still too busy?]
Rachel had been so swamped lately that she hadn't even thought about it. If John hadn't mentioned it, she wouldn't have known it was his birthday.
John had helped her a lot recently, and she really needed to thank him properly. Rachel smiled and replied to his message.
Rachel: [I remember. I've reserved a spot at Moonlight Club to celebrate for you. I'll go buy a gift now and pick the most expensive one!]
John: [I guess I should thank Michael. If you two hadn't divorced, you wouldn't have time to celebrate my birthday.]
Rachel was at a loss for words. After finishing her remaining work, she left the office to buy a watch as a gift for John.
Coincidentally, Mary Lewis, who usually helped her, was working today and greeted her warmly. "Mrs. Smith, long time no see."
Rachel smiled, "I divorced Mr. Smith. Please call me Ms. Williams from now on."
"Sorry, Ms. Williams. I was abroad for training recently and just got back, so I haven't been keeping up with the news." Mary quickly apologized.
Rachel said, "It's okay. My friend's birthday is coming up, and I want to buy him a watch. Can you recommend one?"
Seeing that Rachel wasn't angry, Mary relaxed a bit and quickly selected a few watches to show her. The watches were all from the same series and were quite nice.
Although she was picking a birthday gift for John, Rachel couldn't help but think that these watches would look great on Michael.
However, after so many years of marriage, she had bought Michael several watches, becoming a VIP customer at this watch store, yet Michael had never worn any of them.
Rachel stared at the watches, lost in thought. Just as she was about to pick one up, a familiar voice reached her ears. "This watch is nice. Could you please introduce it to me?"
Rachel turned her head and saw Mandy standing next to her, accompanied by her friend. They seemed to have just finished shopping, carrying several shopping bags.
Mandy's smile froze when she saw that the customer looking at the watches was Rachel.
Rachel greeted her politely, "Miss Brown, what a coincidence."
"It is quite a coincidence." Mandy tightened her grip on the shopping bags and asked with a smile, "Are you here to buy a watch for your boyfriend?"
Rachel nodded and didn't engage further. Just as she was about to ask Mary to wrap up the watch, Mandy quickly pointed to the same watch and spoke softly, "I'll take this watch. Please wrap it up for me."
Then she turned to Rachel with a faint smile. "I think this watch would look great on Michael. Ms. Williams, were you planning to buy this watch too?"
