100. Kaya

Kaya

I woke up in our bed. Everything that happened earlier this morning coming back to me. There was no light shining through the window. Was it night already. What time was it? How long had I been asleep? "Cade," I mind-linked. "You are awake?" "Yeah, what time is it? Where are you." "Just stay in bed. I will bring you some food, and then we can talk, okay." "That is fine." I got out of bed and went to the bathroom. I wanted to brush my teeth and wash my face. I changed into some comfy leggings and one of Cade's shirts. To cover my toes, I put on a pair of fuzzy socks. I was comfy.

My hair looked like a rat's nest, so I brushed it out and returned to the bed. I looked at the few quilts I had made. They looked good in here. I stood making the bed. I folded and draped two quilts across the bed's bottom. I fluffed the pillows and then went to sit on the couch we had in the room. I looked at the fireplace that had no fire going. I felt when Cade come into the room and turned to look at him. He had a big platter of food. My stomach flipped, signaling it was hungry. He sat down the tray.
It had all my favorites. Moose, Elk, smoked salmon. Then, he sat down with a glass of water. "Go ahead and eat, and we can talk." I nodded. He seemed so serious. Was he mad at me? "Are you mad at me?" I signed. "Of course not." He mind linked me. I dug into the food. I was famished. I ate everything he had given me and three glasses of water. I signed, "So I ate. Now tell me, what is going on?" "Well, you remember what happened, yes." He mind-linked me. "Yes, I remember I went to the bathroom, and then Jacks's warriors injected me with something. I got really hot, like my skin was on fire. And Goddess, every time I moved, it was like I was getting more turned on. Then something burned me, and I couldn't mind link you. Then I was taken to Jack's room, and his warriors started to tear my clothes off, and then you came in and killed everyone. Except one of them, Robert came and almost killed him. Then I threw myself at you, and we had sex for who knows how long. Then I fell asleep."

"Yes, we had sex for 12 hours." "That is long. Though I have no idea why that matters." Of course, I had no idea how long we had sex. There were no windows in the hallway. How was I supposed to know how long we went at it. All I knew was I needed it, and it felt good. "Kaya, you went into heat." "What are you talking about that does not happen until the spring? I couldn't have gone into heat this early." I knew how heat worked. I had been going into them since I was 16. They were not like that. I mean, I knew they became different when you became mated. I knew I would be more turned on. My body would demand I have sex, but movement would not make me blind with desire.

"Kaya, I am telling you, you went into heat. That is why you were so well. How else to say this? You were so aroused." "Cade, heat does not make it so you are turned on when you move just an inch." "No, you are right. It just makes you want to have sex. But, being injected with a fertility drug designed by who knows and mixed with other stuff does." "What are you talking about?" "The thing Jack's warriors injected you with was a mix of drugs. One being a drug to induce heat and the other to make you compliant and willing." I just sat there looking at him in confusion. "There is no such thing as a drug to induce heat." "There is Kaya. Some in our pack have used it before because, for some reason, their heat would not come, and they wanted children." "That is wrong. The heat is a natural thing. It should not be tampered with."

"I am not saying that it is good or bad, but regardless, it does exist, and you were injected with it, among other things." "How did you find out all of this." "Well, that guy that Robert almost killed, we tortured the information out of him. He said that Jack had plans. He was going to rape you. The drugs were to keep you compliant and would make sure you got pregnant. He wanted you to give him a strong heir. He hoped it would be a male and that your baby would take over his pack. He would not give his pack to his daughter but to his son. The guy said he knew you would produce a strong heir."

"That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard." I mind-linked. "I agree, but that is what happened." I looked at him, and he looked conflicted. "Well, go on, there is more. I know there is more you are not telling me." I signed. "The drug that induces heat well sometimes makes it so you can't go into heat again. It is like a hail merry. You go into heat, but that does not mean you will ever get another one." I stared at him, shocked. Did this mean I would never have another opportunity to have another heat? He sat there waiting for my reaction. When I didn't respond, he mind-linked me. "Now, Kaya, you are most likely pregnant right now. We will know in a few days. But this may be it; there could be no more. There is no way to know."

My eyes felt watery. I knew I should be happy that I was probably pregnant. I had wanted that. But, the only thought in my head was that the big family I wanted, like my own, I couldn't have. What if this was it. And Goddess forbid, for some reason, I didn't get pregnant now, would I ever? Tears spilled from my eyes. Cade pulled me into his lap. "It will be okay." He mind linked me as he stroked my hair. I cried and cried. "It will all be okay." He reiterated over the link. I cried until I couldn't anymore. "You killed all of Jack's men, even the one you tortured?" I signed. "I killed him after I got all the facts." "Good, and what did you do to their bodies?" I mind-linked.

He looked at me funny. "We buried them." "Dig them up and toss them in the woods; they don't deserve to be laid to rest. I want the buzzards to feast." He nodded. In the north, we never buried our dead; they were always burnt, but I knew it was a southern thing to bury bodies, and that seemed too good for Jack and his men. I stood and stretched. I didn't want to dwell on what might have been done. Well, at least I didn't want to wallow in it, but more importantly, I didn't wish for Cade to see me wallowing.

"What time is it?" I signed. "The better question is, what day is it." "Are you going to tell me?" "It is the 24th of December." "I slept for two days?" "Well, you were really drunk, and then drugged, then we fucked for 12 hours, so yeah?" I just looked at him, shocked he had put it that way. "So today is Christmas Eve?" He nodded. "Well, shouldn't we be doing Christmas stuff?" "I didn't know how you would feel when you woke up, so I had no plans." I mind-linked him. "That is not true. You just canceled what you had planned." I knew Cade he had been as excited as I was to show me Christmas as I was about showing him winter solstice. I smiled at him, not wanting to dwell on what I might have lost or what almost happened. I signed. "Come on, I want the full Christmas experience."
