Kaya and I stood in the middle of the arena. I had talked to Nieva and got everything squared away with her, and now we were going to tell the pack what the plan was. I knew they had no idea why we had insisted everyone in the pack not train this morning but instead that we had important things to discuss. Mark and Helen stood to the one side of me and Kaya the other. I watched the pack's concerned faces. They had known we had a threat, which is why their training had been so intense lately, but they didn't know the extent of it.
Charlie had been keeping to himself and the others from his pack, so only a few of the pack knew they had joined us. I mean, they had to have felt it when they entered the pack link, but none of the pack asked me about it. Once everyone was seated, I took a deep breath. I knew this was not going to go well before it even started. "Thank you, Shadow Pack, for coming. As you may have surmised, we have been under a serious threat for these last few months. That is why training has been mandatory and twice a day."
"Well, that threat has gotten even more significant. Howi, the alpha of the daybreak pack, has already wiped out one of our allies. Howi is a real threat to us. He has the numbers to wipe us out. So, I have decided instead of waiting for him to come here, we will actively be hunting him. That said, I need those with babies and kids who do not have wolves to go somewhere I know will be safe. I am asking those to seek refuge in the North." I watched the faces of my pack. They looked in utter disbelief and shock.
"I know this is a big ask, but it is necessary. I will not allow Shadow Pack to have another massacre like we had so many years ago. No, those who cannot fight or do not have a wolf will seek refuge in the North. Those going will be going to stay at the Crescent Moon Pack. It is where your Luna is from. They are skilled hunters, fishers, trackers, and fighters, and it is the safest place for you while I and those who stay take care of the threat. Those who have teenagers can go to your place to watch the kids while some stay here. But if you do have little babies, I insist the mothers go with them. If you think you won't be able to fight, you should also go to the North."
"Now, lastly, I need to share some information about Luna Kaya. She, unfortunately, will not be going to the North with you." They looked confused. "She wanted to, but as you know, she is pregnant. Now, I know some of you know, but I will tell you the reason she went into heat is she was drugged, and her heat was forced.
As you know, that can complicate pregnancies. That is currently the case, and Luna will not be able to travel that far. In fact, she has been pushing herself too much already. She will not be staying here, though. Like you, she will be somewhere safe." This seemed to make the pack a little more relaxed, but they still looked on edge.
"Those leaving have a month to pack. I will be handing out lists of what to bring. We will have you drive as far as possible, but you will have to trek to the actual pack area at some point. The northerners will meet you to help guide you to where they are. Nieva is there, Luna, they do not have an alpha. Now, I want you all to be polite and respect their beliefs. There will be no going in any of their tents or, as they are called, dens. You will do as they do. Kaya has trained you all to hunt and be more hardy, and that will serve you up there."
"Once we know exactly who is going up there, we will make sure you have tents and other supplies you will need up there, so there is no reason to worry that you won't have what you need. But I will tell you this. They do not live like us. There is no electricity, no indoor plumbing, and you will be completely living off the land. It is harsh, but the Crescent Moon Pack will help you all with surviving." I would typically take questions, but this was not for debate. This was what was going to happen. Now go and decide who is staying and who is going. But no child under sixteen is staying here for fighting. That is not up for debate. Those from the age 16-18, I leave that at your parent's discretion if you stay or go." I turned and grabbed Kaya's hand.
She stood there. I knew she had no idea what I said to the pack. I was facing those sitting in the arena, and she had stood next to me, facing them. But Kaya knew what I was planning on saying. She didn't need to know word for word what was said. She just needed to be there for me, directing the pack. Kaya leaned into me, snuggling her face into my chest. I knew she wanted comfort as much as I did. Telling the pack that we had to separate, even for a short time, took work. But it was necessary. Once I knew my Pack and Kaya were safe. Mark and I were going to start to make a plan to kill Howi.
We had already sent trackers to watch the pack. If they could get any information, then great, but if not, they could tell us when the large pack moves to go someplace. There was just a lot of moving parts. Kaya mind linked me. "I hate all of this. I hate it." "I know love, but it will get better, I promise." She pulled me in closer to her, and then I guided us back to the packhouse. As we worked out everything, she also needed to find a place to retreat to. I wanted her to be close but not too close. She was to be a few hours away but in the human world.
Kaya also insisted on making lists for me as to what to get those going to the North. They needed certain things, and since I was sending them up there, it was my job to make sure everyone had what they needed, and Kaya had made a list of supplies for everyone. So once I had the list of who was going, I would send someone to fetch the items on the list. Most of the stuff I would buy in bulk. But it was just a lot to do in a month. But we needed them in the North fast. I needed to finish all of this over the summer. Kaya only had a few months left until she was due, and I wanted to be there when our pup was born. I also didn't want our pack to winter in the North.
