84. Kaya

Kaya

I watched with trepidation as Jack emerged from the black car. He looked like he was full of arrogance. I noticed most alphas had this air about them of pride. And not the good kind, either. They were all stuck up. Jack strutted towards Cade and me. I watched his lips as he stood in front of us. "Cade Kaya, so nice to see you again." He then looked directly at me and spoke as he signed. "Kaya, you are looking beautiful today. Thank you again for training some of my warriors."

"When did he learn to sign?" I mind-linked Cade. He must have asked because Jack looked back at me and signed, "I started to learn after you and I fought. I mean, we are allies, after all, and I wanted to be able to talk with you." I signed back, "Thank you." I gave him a nod. It made no sense why he had learned. Not that I was not grateful. But it was a strange thing for him to do.

Cade and I showed him to the guest rooms. I looked at Cade's lips to read them as he spoke. "The alpha floor is off limits, do I make myself clear." then, looking at Jack, he said. "I would never encroach on your space." Cade mind-linked me. "Of course he wouldn't. That is why he is here, right?" The sarcasm was apparent. I still did not understand why he was here. I signed to Jack, who seemed to be perfectly fluent in sign language. "We have training in the next thirty minutes if you want to have your warriors attend."

Jack had told us he wanted me to train his men. That was his reason for coming here in the first place. He had arrived early in the morning. The sun had not even risen in the sky yet. Cade had decided he would attend the training while Jack was here. I don't know why he was so on edge with him being here. I understood he didn't like the guy. Still, Cade was very suspicious of Jack, which was weird considering, from what I understood, he was our biggest ally.

"Thank you, Kaya." Jack signed. I turned and left. I was already in my sports leggings and sports bra. Cade looked me up and down. "What?" I mind-linked him. "You should put on a shirt. Jack was staring at you like you were food. Not to mention, it is freezing outside." "I have told you a million times it is not that cold. Plus, we will be moving a lot today; we are running, and Jack is a dirty old pervert looking at me like that. I just ignore it, and so should you."

Cade smiled at me, apologizing for trying to dictate what I wore. "come on, Cade, let's get to the arena before everyone else. It shows good leadership." I mind-linked. Cade grabbed my hand as we walked out of the packhouse and to the arena. He himself was wearing long sweatpants and a hoodie. I thought he would overheat, but he assured me he wouldn't.

We were the first to arrive, just like I expected. Cade mind linked to me. "So, how long are you going to run us today?" "Until I stay so." Cade laughed. "Anything else we are doing today?" He mind linked me. "No, it is a running day." The sky began to drop snow as we stood there waiting for people to arrive. "I love the snow." I signed. "I know you do." "When are we going to try the board on the snow." "You really want to try it, don't you." "Yes, and I think we should bring Kimi, Saka, and Len, too." "Fine, let's make a day of it. We can all go. I have a snowboard, and so do Helen and Mark, but we can rent some gear for you guys to try it out."

"Really, when can we go?" "We will go soon; I will coordinate with Mark and Helen." "Yes." I smiled brightly. I couldn't wait to tell my friends. They would really enjoy something like that. I grabbed hold of Cade and pulled him to me. I moved my head up and looked up at him. His hands went to the back of my head, running his hand over my braid. "I love your hair." I read his lips. Then he leaned down and kissed me.

We stood there getting wrapped up in one another. A simple kiss turned into a full-on makeout. We were so wrapped up in one another we didn't break apart for a long time. Something happened to have Cade pull away. I looked around to see the arena had filled up. Again, I lost focus on what was happening because I was engrossed in something else. I need to be more alert. I saw a lot of people smirking at Cade and me.

Kimi mind linked me. "You looked cozy." I blushed, and my mind linked her back. "I can't help it. You will understand when you find your mate." "You mean if I find my mate." "You will return in the spring, and the men will start coming. Then, you will find him." "That is it, though, Kaya. You know as well as I do there have been barely any men out looking for their mates. You had to leave the pack to find yours. You know we had almost no one show up last season."

I knew that almost no one came to Crescent Moon Pack during the last mating season. I had no idea why, and neither did anyone else. Kimi mind linked me again. "What do you think is keeping them?" "I don't know." "Well, whatever the case, maybe I am not meant to find a mate in the north; maybe I am like you. If something is happening to northern men, I don't know what it would be. Maybe the Goddess would give me someone else." "Are you close to anyone down here?"

"I would never do something to someone who was not my mate." "I know that, Kimi." I mind-linked. "I did find that one Alpha Charlie pretty handsome. He was also very kind." "You know I told him to pray to the Goddess for a second chance, mate; maybe that would be you." "You think I don't have a mate yet?" "I don't pretend to know what the Goddess does, but who knows, maybe that is your destiny." "Yeah, Maybe."

I mind-linked Cade, telling him what to say to the people at training. We were going to run the pack boarders. Not all of it, as that would be way too many miles. But, we could run some of the border and would run until I said we were done. Endurance was a big part of being able to fight, and running helped with that. We stretched, and then we took off.
