The last day of the tournament was here. We were to have fights until dinner and then have a ball at the end. Kaya was wearing spandex shorts and a tight-fitting tank top. Her long black hair had been braided and kept out of her face. It was snowing outside, and I worried she would be cold. "I won't be cold; I will be moving, and it will keep me warm." She mind-linked me.
When we arrived outside, Helen and Mark approached us. They looked at her, and I knew they thought today would be a long day. It was my first thought when I woke up. Almost all of the pack was there to watch the fights, except for the warriors I had stationed around for security. When we moved to where the fights were to be, I was not surprised to find both Len and Saka were shirtless and in shorts. Kimi dressed the same as Kaya, who quickly jogged to meet them.
Mark turned to me. "The snow will favor them all, I bet," Helen added. "Without a doubt. They won't be slipping and sliding. If they were in their wolf form, I doubt we would be able to see them; their white coats make them blend in." I nodded. Helen looked at me. "The pack is excited Kaya is fighting. I told them it was not for the championship, but they didn't seem to care; they only wanted her to win."
I looked over at my little mate. She and her friends were all signing away, and then they all stopped and looked as if they were listening to someone. I knew it had to be Nieva. She would no doubt be encouraging them. It sounded a giant alarm signaling for things to start. Kaya and her friends walked towards the fights. Robert followed behind Kaya. He mind linked me.
"Alpha, I don't like this." "I don't either, Robert, but there is not much we can do about it. I will watch with you." I cut the link and told Helen and Mark we should go on over and watch. Everyone paired off, and Kaya stood alone, waiting for someone to come challenge her. I was surprised by who her first challenger was. It was a Luna from Lunar Pack. "I think everyone makes such a big stink over you. I doubt you can even back it up. I mean, you are tiny. What damage could you actually do?" The blond-haired woman spewed. Kaya had read her lips, but she was not responding.
"You can't even hear, let alone speak. I doubt you are good at anything?" She was in for it. Her mate came and stood by me. "I know you think your mate will win, but mine is a great fighter. She is probably the best female fighter I ever encountered." "My mate is better than any fighter I have ever seen, man or woman." I quibbled back. I noticed all eyes were on the women. The other fights were of no importance to anyone.
The two women faced off. It wasn't even a second when the Luna charged at Kaya. Kaya didn't block. It was not going to be a drawn-out fight; I knew that. She would take the blows and give some of hers in return, and in the end, she would have to be pulled off. I watched as the Luna went to landing blows. But Kaya kept hold of her and just let her whale on her. "Your mate is not even fighting back; some Luna she is." Just then, Kaya started hitting the Luna. Repeatedly. Not bothering to let up, her blows seemed to get harder the more she went on.
Kaya let go of the Luna, who fell limply to the snow-covered ground. She should have been done, but that was not her way. She started kicking the Luna and then crawled on top of her and went to hit her in the face. The Alpha standing next to me rushed her to get to his mate. I followed behind him. "Get the fuck off her. She is already down." Kaya couldn't hear him and just kept punching. When he grabbed her arm, her eyes snapped to his.
He dragged her off his mate, and Kaya stopped, seeing it was over. I could tell the Alpha wanted to fight her at that moment, but his mate needed medical attention, which took president. He scooped her up and ran with her to the clinic. I looked at Kaya, who had the Luna's blood on her. "Are you okay? You took a lot of punches before you got to her." I mind-linked her.
"She kept hitting me in the worst places. I doubt I even have a broken rib. Her punches hurt, but there was no damage in them. I guess she thought hurting was more important than wounding." I smiled. Next, a huge, burly guy came. I did not like this. She nodded at me, and I let her go. She was much more cautious in this fight. She dodged his fist, not allowing him to touch her. She had to know that one hit from him would inflict much damage.
She took a second to kick him between the legs, and he fell forward a bit. She was fast running, and then she ran back, using the run to propel herself far enough away from the ground to give him a good hard kick in the head. He fell forward; he was unconscious. The fight had lasted a good long while. She came up to me out of breath. "That was not easy." She linked.
"You only hit him twice, and he never even touched you." "I would never let him touch me. Are you kidding? His punch would have really hurt me. I know when I will be the loser." I smiled. The fights went on all day, and Kaya did not lose one. But she looked exhausted when dinner came. She was finally done for the day, and I, for one, could not be gladder. She ate more than she usually did. Helen and Mark joined our table. Mark looked sick with worry. "What is it, Mark?"
"You were watching Kaya all day, so you don't know how the others did, right?" "No, what has something happened?" "Yeah, well, first, second, and third place will all go to the north." "What?" "Len, Saka, and Kimi did not lose a single fight like Kaya." "And this is bad. Why?" "The others are not happy about it."
