39. Cade

Cade

James brought a phone to me as I didn't want to leave the clinic. I picked up the phone. "Cade." "Hi Nieva, what can I help you with?" "Quill told me that Kaya was supposed to be fighting an Alpha, and I wanted to know why and how this has happened?" I was pissed. How did Quill know that, and why was she calling to check what was happening with my pack? She has no say in anything that happens here. "How did Quill know about that?" "Kaya still has her link to the pack she reached out to him. He told me what they talked about. So I am asking you what happened?" "Well, I am sure he already told you if Kaya told him." "He did, but I want it confirmed with you. I don't like knowing one of my pack members is going through something like this. I left her in your hands, and I would like to think you of taking care of your mate."

"She is no longer your pack member. What happens to her is no longer your concern." I didn't mean to appear so possessive, but she was not Crescent Moon Pack anymore. She was Shadow Pack. "Cade, she will always be Crescent Pack. She has it tattooed into her skin. She is from the north, and women do not leave this pack. She may be your Luna, but she will always be part of us. So, tell me what happened." I was pissed she was talking to me like this. She was mine, not theirs. Despite being pissed, I told her all that had happened between Annalise and Kaya and the fight with Jack.

"She will be okay then." "Yes." "Good glad to hear it. As to your tournament, we will send some people to visit. Do we need to send them with anything, or will you provide for them since they will winter there?" "Hold on, what?" "Kaya told Quill she wanted some of our pack to attend your tournament." Of course, she did. I was not sure I wanted them to attend; they would not want Annalisse hand. But why would they need to winter with us? "Nieva, they can come, of course, but why would they need to stay all winter?" "The winter storms will be here soon, and the planes will not run in the weather." "Oh, okay, we will put them up, so they don't need to bring anything besides what they want."

"Good, glad to hear it. I will be only sending unmated wolves. There are three who have volunteered. But, being unmated, they will not be so concerned over dens, but they will still be hesitant to enter people's homes. I expect you to show them hospitality like we showed you and for them to be treated well." "Of course, why would I not?" "How you treated Kaya is not how I expect them to be treated nor her in the future." I was now not in a good mood. How dare she try to tell me how to treat my mate.

Sure, I had been in the wrong, but she did not need to lecture me on it. "I will take care of them, not to mention Kaya will too." "Good, they will leave tomorrow. They will be keeping me updated, but I look forward to talking to you in the future. Give Kaya my love." "I will." Then she ended the call. I handed the phone back to James. Who left right after. Mark looked at me. He had known me long enough to know I was mad.

"What did Nieva want?" Mark asked. "To lecture me on letting Kaya get hurt. Then she told me she was sending unmated wolves to come to the tournament. Then she told me they will winter with us because storms happen there this time of year and no planes will fly in." Helen smiled and said. "Kaya will be happy they are here. She doesn't say it, but I know she misses people who understand her." I nodded, but I was still mad that Nieva acted like she had control over Kaya. She had none. She was Shadow Pack now, not Crescent Moon.

Mark asked, "How did she even know what was happening with Kaya?" "Kaya apparently talked to her brother, who told Nieva everything." "She is still linked to them?" "Yes, she never rejected her old pack." "Shouldn't she? She is our Luna to this pack how can she be tied to both?" "I don't know, but she will never reject them," Helen spoke. "It makes sense females in the north never leave packs to join others. She will never break ties with them. The only people who renounce their packs in the north are males of the alpha line." "How do you know?" Mark looked at her in confusion. "Kaya talks to me, that is how."

"You guys can go I will stay here and wait until Kaya wakes up." "Are you sure?" "Yeah, I am sure, but Mark tell Robert he is swearing in as Kaya's guard tomorrow morning. We should be out of here by then, and I want that taken care of." "Yes, alpha." "Helen, make sure you find a place for the northern wolves coming to stay." "How many are coming?" "Three." "Do we need to worry about them making dens like Kaya?" "No, Nieva said they are unmated, so they will not be too concerned over it."  "Do you want me to put them in the packhouse?" "Will there be room for them with the other Alphas here for the tournament?" "I think we can always give them a room to share while the others are here; it should be fine." "Then do that. They are leaving tomorrow, so they should be here in the next few days."

She nodded, and Mark and Helen left, and I sat there until the doctor came out and told me I could go in and see Kaya. I walked in and sat beside her bed, taking her hand in my own. "Kaya." she did not respond. It occurred to him once again she could not hear me. I mind-linked her. "Kaya." She responded by asking for water, which I quickly retrieved for her.
"How did I do?" "Rather well. You survived and came to a draw; there was no clear victor." "Good, I did not embarrass myself then or you." "You never embarrass me or yourself." "When can I get out of here." "I will find out, but your leg was shattered, so you will not be walking until that heals. Your arms are broken as well, and every single one of your ribs."
"Goddess, what a mess." "You will be better in a week. But you can't shift for two weeks." "When the bones have healed, I will be shifting. I don't care what the doctor said. I am a wolf and will be one if I please."

I just looked at her. There was no arguing. I could tell she would do as she wanted. "I am sorry about leaving you last night." She looked away from me. She was not ready to forgive me, and I could understand why. If the roles had been reversed, I would have been a monster. I always wanted her to look at me like I was her everything, and if I felt she felt more for someone else, I don't think I could tolerate it. I would go out and kill whomever she seemed to like. "Three of Crescent Moon will be here in a couple of days."

A smile appeared. "Really?" I nodded. This seemed to make her more than happy. She was ecstatic. "They will be here all winter." "Do you know which three are coming?" "No, I just know they are unmated." She sat up wincing, but she looked determined. "We need to go and get ready for them." "Helen is taking care of it." "Cade, get me out of this place." I did as she asked, searching for the doctor to find exactly what we needed to do to care for her when she was out and at home.
