Cade and I sat in his office. I had a needle and the dye. I told Cade how this works. We had decided on one band on our finger. He had said rings mean something in the human world, and we don't do that in the north. Nor is marriage a thing in our world of werewolves. We would do a thin line on our left finger. I positioned the needle and started.

I mind-linked Cade. "Does it hurt?" "It burns, but I don't feel sick. I continued to stick him over and over again. Dipping the needle into the ink made of wolfsbane. Cade continued to sit there stoically. He was uncomfortable but not unmanageable. I didn't take too long to do a band around his finger. "How do you feel? Does your finger feel like it will fall off? Do you feel sick or anything?" "My finger burns, but it is not too bad." He mind linked. I gave him my left hand.

I had to instruct Cade on how to get a tattoo, as he had no idea. It was a series of pokes and applying the ink repeatedly. He started, and it did burn, but not terribly. It burned a little more than a regular tattoo, but that is to be expected with wolfsbane. When he was finished, I flexed my finger. Cade looked at me so I could read his lips as he spoke. "Is it like this when you get tattooed?" "It burns more than a regular tattoo, but it is not much worse. The question is, will it continue to burn and weaken the hand. It has not killed us, so I think that is good."

Cade mind-linked me. "Yeah, maybe this was not thought out. What if this had killed us?" I laughed. He had a point. This was a stupid idea. But we both thought it was important to see if we could do tattoos. I know Cade wanted something to represent our pack on my skin. He already felt weird that I never broke my connection with Cresent Moon Pack. But he never asked me to break the connection. Since I was mated to him, I never needed to be joined into his pack as marking him, and him marking me connected me to his pack.

Cade and I sat there looking at our fingers. Neither of us had any swelling, and the finger was moving normally. We need to see how it healed. That would be the deciding factor if this worked. If it heals without pushing out the ink, and we keep strength in the fingers. Cade looked at me so I could read his lips. "I know you have a lot to do today. Do you want to get to it, or do you want to blow off today and go do something fun?" I smiled. Cade did stuff like this every now and then.
He continued "I mean we kind of have everyone in a routine I don't think anyone would mind if we blew off today?" I signed, "What did you have in mind?" "I was thinking we go tubbing and then maybe dinner out?"

"Tubbing, what is that?" I mind-linked, "It is sledding down mountains in thick inner tubes." That sounded so fun. We sled in the Arctic, but there were not too many big hills, so sliding down the mountains sounded like fun. I nodded enthusiastically.

He and I hurried to get on our snow clothes. Cade had gotten me this outfit that was both waterproof and warm. I wore it over a pair of thick leggings and a simple blue long-sleeve. My coat matched the bibs, as he called them. Once we were all ready, he loaded us up in a black vehicle, and we were off. The ride was shorter than the one was when we went into the city.

Cade mind-linked me. "How is your finger. Mine is not burning as much." "Same." We pulled into a parking lot that already had several people parked there. As we exited the building, I looked up at the slops and saw people sliding down the mountains with boards. I grabbed Cade's arm. "What are they doing?" I signed. He mind linked me. He was good at knowing what I signed, but he was still learning to actually do it himself. He needed more practice. "They are skiing and snowboarding." "It looks fun." He smiled and mind-linked me. "Maybe next time we will go snowboarding." That looked fun, and I thought I would be good at it. When we got into the building, Cade went to get tickets for the tubbing.

I looked around at the people. Some people had their drinks in their hands. Others stood with their boards, and I looked at them in fascination. I saw a few people staring at me, but I was just in wonder about everything. It was like people here were super in love with the snow, and they used it to have fun, and I thought that was the coolest thing.

"Kaya." Cade entered my mind, and I turned to see him standing behind me. That was a first being snuck up on. I must have been so engrossed in what I was doing that I totally ignored my senses. "Come on." He led me back outside and to the enormous piles of tubes. He grabbed one, and so did I. We walked to this long-moving strip and got on. It moved slowly. I mind-linked Cade. "We could walk faster than this." "We can't. They want us to ride on this to the top."

I rolled my eyes. That was ridiculous. I was happy as we got higher up; we had ridden this thing. We got to the top and stepped off. And both of us dragged the tubes. There were a few places to line up, and I followed Cade. When it was our turn, we both got in the tubs, and Cade grabbed hold of the handles, pulling his tube to mine. The guy who was helping people shoved us right over the edge.

The ride was alliterating. My stomach dropped, and my heart raced. The wind hit my face, melting the snow splashed onto my skin, leaving my hair sticking out from under my hat and my face wet. I looked over at Cade, who was looking at me, smirking. I signed, "That was the best thing ever." Both of us got out and stood. I signed, "Come on, let's do it again."
