35. Cade
Cade
Kaya grabbed Annalise by the back of her hair. Annalise thrashed around, but Kaya kept her hold. She finally let go when Annalise punched her in the ribs. I knew she had rebroken them. Kaya stepped back. "You can't hurt me. Cade told my dad I would be safe there."
Kaya must have read her lips because she laughed wickedly. Then, in just a flash, Kaya charged at Annelise. The impact pushed Annelise through the window in the office, and Kaya fell through with her. I moved quickly to see if they were okay.
I saw Kaya get up shakily, but Annalise just lay there. Kaya then got on top of her and began to beat her. If I didn't move fast, she would kill her, which would undoubtedly start a war. I jumped down from the window, landing on my feet.
I came in and grabbed Kaya. Some people were looking at the whole scene. I had to keep a hold on Kaya as she kept trying to attack Annalise. "Someone get Annalise to the clinic now." One of the onlookers came, picked up Annalise's limp body, and ran her down to the clinic. I mind-linked Kaya.
"What was that about?" "Are you fucking kidding me. She was all over you, which is unacceptable; if we were in the north, and she pulled that, I would be allowed to kill her. Mates are sacred." "We are not in the north, and I told you already why she is here. You jeopardized the standing in this pack. I hope to talk to Jack and smooth things over; otherwise, it is war. And lots of lives will be lost."
Her face fell. She was obviously upset. But she needs to understand we do things differently here. You can't just act however you feel like it. "I am going to the clinic, just I don't know; stay low for now. "I stormed off, not looking back. I hope it is fixable because I do not want to go to war. After all, Kaya was jealous. I ran to the clinic, and I heard everyone rushing around when I got there. I asked the nearest person what was going on.
"What is the status of Annalise? Is she going to be alright?" "She broke her back, Alpha, and suffered a brain bleed." My stomach dropped. This was bad. I knew her back would heal in a few weeks or even days if it was not a bad break. But until then, she would not be able to walk. I had no idea what was up with a brain bleed. But if she could survive the next few hours, she would recover.
I sat around waiting for an update when Jack stormed in. "What the hell did that bitch do to my daughter." "You are in my territory, and you will not call the Luna a bitch. I don't care what she did." "She almost killed my daughter. Who knows, she may still die."
"Let's just calm down, Jack. We don't know what is going to happen." The doctors came out and talked with the two of us. "So, we got control of the brain bleed. I don't know how long it will take for her spine to heal as it is broken in a few places, and her jaw is broken, as well as her nose. My best guess is a week, the worst-case scenario a month."
"Can I see her? "Jack asked. "She will be down soon, and she is sedated to make her comfortable, but we can get someone to take you to see her in about five minutes." "Thanks, doctor." "Let me know if you need any more information, Alpha." I nodded at the doctor. I looked at Jack. "See, it isn't so bad." "I demand reprimand for my daughter." "What? "Yes, I demand that your mate is punished for this. We are allies, and you promised me she would be safe here, and this is the second time you broke your word to me."
"Hold on." "No, you chose to disregard our marriage agreement. And now your mate has hurt and injured my daughter, your guest. If you won't punish her, then it is war." "Don't threaten me. I can kill you now and avoid the whole option of war, and I told you Annalise needed to mind her place. I told you to talk to her, and she didn't. Do you know what she did to get the beating she did? Not to mention, I never told you I would keep her safe. I planned to, but your daughter was out of line."
"You and I have alliances, and I have alliances with people who hate your pack. Without our alliance, they will be at your borders in months." I knew he was right. A lot of packs were not so happy that we made a comeback. When my parents ran the pack, they were extremely powerful, and that power didn't sit right with many people. My alliance with Jack showed that we were not above having allies.
"What do you want me to do?" "I want her whipped with silver." "What?" "You heard me a hundred lashes." "I am not doing that." "Fine. Then you might as well prepare for war with me or various other packs." I let out a sigh. "Let's talk about this later. You should go to sit with Annalise. We will talk about all of this tomorrow."
He nodded and went to find his daughter. I headed back to the packhouse. When I couldn't find Annalise in the house, I began to track her scent into the woods. It took a while, but I found her curled up in wolf form on the forest floor. I mind-linked her. "Kaya, we need to talk. Why don't you come home and shower, and then we can talk? Yeah?" Her wolf nodded at my words and stood up. I thought she was going to shift, but she didn't. She stayed in her wolf form all the way back to the packhouse. Once there, she turned and then made her way to our room.
She used the new security system and entered the room. She went straight to the bathroom to clean up, and then, once done, she came out in one of my shirts. It was oversized on her, and she looked so glum. I was not looking forward to this conversation.
