Kaya

The whole pack lined up in front of me and Cade. I had Sol in a bouncer beside me on the ground in front of the packhouse. Cade decided to give a speech in which he used sign and speaking so I could see what he was saying. "Now, today, we are combining two packs. The Cresent Moon Pack will no longer be there but will become the Shadow Pack. I know the North has wished to swear to Kaya, and she and I are both okay with that." Then he looked at me, and I began to sign, "I am an equal in leading this pack, so those from Cresent Moon Pack will swear to both Cade and myself. You will answer to both of us." Then I looked back to Cade.

"And those already in Shadow Pack, you will also swear to Kaya. Like she signed, we are equals, and we will both be leading this pack from now on." Everyone looked a bit confused. There was never that I knew of two equal leaders in a pack. In the North, it was Luna who led, and her mate was respected and listened to but was not the one in charge. In the south, an Alpha led, and his mate was the Luna, who was respected and valued, but she was not the one who commanded the pack. A hand shot up in the air by a teenager from the North. I recognized him. His name was Chim. "Yes, Chim, you have a question." I signed.

"Do we call you both Luna or both Alpha?" I smiled. "No, you call me Luna and Cade Alpha." He nodded. There were no more questions. Everyone seemed to be okay with it. Everyone began to line up. The first up was Mark. He smiled at me as he sliced his palm open, and I did the same with mine. He signed his vows and then grabbed my hand. Then, when he was done, he mind-linked me. "I can't believe we have such a badass Luna." My face remained solemn. I didn't feel like I was unique. In fact, most of the time, I felt broken. I certainly looked it.

When it came to Kimi, she smiled so big at me. "I can't fucking believe it all worked out like this." I couldn't help but giggle. She first cut her hand, joined Cade's cut hand, and then mine. When we were done, she grabbed me and pulled me into a huge hug. She mind-linked to me privately. "You know Robert would have loved this. He is smiling at you from the garden." My eyes began to water. I wished he was here to be here for this.

When Len came to me, he signed right after he swore. "I always thought of you as my leader; now you are. You are good at this, Kaya." "Thanks." He then moved so Saka could swear to me. "Kaya, the badass Luna, who is missing an ear." I just stared at him. "What, come on, it is badass. You can't tell me it isn't. You know they will be singing songs about you forever, right?" I snorted as I moved on to the next person, but as he walked away, he mind linked. "We better be doing a pack run after this, right?" "Saka, go to your mate," I commanded. I knew he smiled as he walked away.

John, our new cook, stood before me. I had yet to formally meet him. In fact, I had been actively avoiding him. I didn't like the reminder that Becky really was gone. He stood before me, and before he cut his hand, he began to sign. "Look, Luna, I know I am not Becky. I would never replace her. Everyone in the pack knew she was the kindest soul you would ever meet. She was a great she-wolf. I hope I can make your and Alpha's life a little easier. If it would be better if I stepped away from the packhouse and position to make you more comfortable, I can. I don't want to upset you. Truly, I just want to help."

I stood there looking at him. I examined him. He was a young man. Maybe in his early twenties. It had to be an honor for him to work in the packhouse so closely with the Alpha and Luna. At least Helen told me when I first arrived here that working and living in the packhouse is a coveted position. That people in the pack want that job. "Thank you, John, for cooking for us. I, um, like fruit smoothies if it is not too much trouble."

His face lit up. I was giving him a chance, and that was all he wanted. I gave him a nod, and he took the knife and cut it into his hand. I grabbed his hand with my hand already bleeding. Then, he moved along for the next person. A while later, my mother and father swore to me. The last person to swear to me was my brother Quill. "Well, I will be Goddess dammed. My little sister is a fucking Luna. A leader of a Southern Pack and a Northern one." I just shrugged.

"If you told me this would be happening last year, I would say you were lying." "Has it been a year?" I signed and asked. Quill nodded. "It is the beginning of October, and you met Cade in the middle of October. I remember I was there." I smiled, remembering that day. Quill sliced his hand. "Now this does not mean you can boss me around and I will become your bitch boy I am still your older brother therefore you can't boss me." I couldn't help but laugh.

I mind-linked him. "You are swearing to me, that makes you my bitch if I so choose." He smirked. "I am so going to regret this." Then he grabbed my hands, and we shook. Our blood mixing. He was the last, and now Crescent Moon was no more. Everyone was Shadow Pack. I couldn't help but smile. Cade pulled me to him, through his head, and howled to the sun. I followed, and then many wolves responded to the two of us. I couldn't believe this had happened. I sent up a silent prayer to the Goddess. "Thank you for this, and I will keep my promise and help the North and South merge. Just please protect us."
