103. Cade
Cade
I woke up, and Kaya was not next to me. I mind-linked her, and she didn't respond. I began to freak out. I mind-linked Robert, who had yet to respond. He was probably asleep. I jumped out of bed and rushed out of the room. I would sniff her out and hope I could find her. I didn't know if someone took her. I followed her scent and was happy when it didn't lead out of the front door. I continued to follow it. I found her in the living room. She was curled up on the couch. Kimi on the other side.
She must have felt my presence because she slowly opened her eyes. She mind-linked me. "Cade." I wanted to yell at her for making me think she was in some mortal danger. I mean, with everything that had happened, she should have known I would have worried when I woke up, and she was not there. But, looking at her so peacefully, I couldn't get mad. "Good morning, Merry Christmas." She read my lips. "Merry Christmas; I am sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep down here." "I didn't like waking up alone, but I am glad you are safe." She looked around.
"So what do we do now?" she mind linked. "We open presents once everyone is awake; it should be soon. Mark and Helen will get up soon. Then we eat. Becky always leaves a breakfast casserole in the fridge. I know you like eggs. I mean there will be cheese and sausage too. She probably left something for you and Kimi in case you didn't like it." She nodded. If on cue, Mark and Helen came into the room. "Merry Christmas." I smiled at them.
We waited for Robert, who came down shortly after Mark and Helen. "Now Kimi, Kaya, and Robert, we all take turns opening presents to show what everyone got." I signed and spoke at the same time. The three of them nodded. Kaya went first. Helen and Mark had gotten her a pink beanie, which she loved and promptly put on. Next was me. I chose one of Kaya's gifts. The smaller of the two. I laughed when I saw the bundle of fuzzy socks.
Kaya had been going on and on about how comfy they were and how I should get some. I put on one of the pairs. We continued like this, going back and forth, and it was a blast to watch everyone enjoy everything they were getting. When Kimi opened up one of the gifts Kaya got her, she squealed. It was a utility knife with a variety of different gadgets into one. Then she also got her fuzzy boots like the ones I had bought Kaya. Everyone was in high spirits. When everyone was done, the place was a wreck. Paper was everywhere.
I went and grabbed a giant trash bag. Helen went to put the casserole in. When she came back, everyone was cleaning the room. "So she made our casserole, and then there was a giant muffin tin with bacon and eggs in the center of the tin. There were directions on it. It is for Kaya and Kimi, apparently." Kay had loved bacon. It was one of the few things she liked from the south. I looked at her, and she continued to clean. She had not heard what Helen had said. Well, she was in for a surprise.
We finished cleaning up, and the six of us went to the kitchen to sit around and wait for the food to finish. Mark put on the coffee. Kaya went to the fridge and pulled out the orange juice. We stood around and waited for the food to be done. Helen had used both of the ovens, and then Robert signed as well as spoke. "This so far is the best Christmas I have had in a long time." I knew he had to have missed being around people he cared about.
I knew his mate had died, and I knew he probably had either spent his holidays alone or with his parents. I was glad he was here. He was definitely the right choice for being Kaya's guard. The food was dinged, and both dishes were done at the same time, which was good. We all brought all the food out to the dining room. The deltas that lived in the house always spent their holidays with their families because they were all single.
So it was all of us who just joined around the table and served everything up. I watched to see if Kaya liked her food. She bit into one. She smiled and signed. "Holy Shit, that is so good." Kimi and Kaya ate a bunch. All of us decided to try some of their food. When I bit into it, I was surprised. It tasted excellent. I needed to tell Becky to add that to the breakfast rotation. Kaya tried some of the casserole. She didn't hate it. Which surprised me. It had cheese in it.
Maybe she would come around to new foods. "So after breakfast, we play games and stuff. We have lunch in the fridge, and then we have Chinese food at dinner. Becky has all of that ready, just in the fridge." Everyone took time to clean up the dining room and the kitchen just like we did in the living room. Then Helen brought out the cards against humanity and some other games. We always started with Monopoly. Mark and I played it as kids and continued the tradition.
This was the first year in a long time since it was not just Helen, Mark, and I. Since both Mark and I's parents were dead, we had so many Christmases alone. Then he found Helen at a mating Ball, and we got to add her to Christmas. Now, there were six of us playing the games. It was way more fun with lots of people. After Lunch, Kaya insisted on bringing Len and Saka their gifts, so I decided I would accompany her.
When we got to the house of Saka's new in-laws, he was happy to see us. Kaya handed him two presents. Which he seemed to love. Len had the same reaction. On our way back to the pack house, it started to snow, and I pulled Kaya into my side. "Are you liking Christmas?" I mind-linked her. "I am. The whole thing is laid back and fun." "Good, I am glad."
The rest of the evening went really well, and I was Glad that Kaya had a great time. When all was said and done, Kaya and I made our way back up to the room. I pulled her to me. I kissed her. I wanted to strip her down and fuck her all night long. Though yet again, like last night, I refrained on account I thought she would need some time to recover from the almost rape. She snuggled into me as we lay in bed with our pajamas on, and we fell right to sleep.
