I was exhausted after dinner. I had been fighting all day. I had not lost, but I was sure I had some broken ribs. Most of the opponents were more significant than me, and I had to evade being hit, or I would have had much more damage than a few broken ribs. But dodging punches and blocking was just as tiring as hitting someone. My legs were sore from the amount of kicking I had to do. All the people I fought were taller than me, and hitting them on the back of the head to knock them out meant I had to get a running start to jump.

But I also had a lot of people that were slower as the snow began to pile up. Without their slow movements and sliding, I could have beaten all of them as the day wore on; I had become utterly exhausted. Luckily, the day had made the snow deeper and the fights easier. While eating, Kimi, Saka, and Len came and sat with Helen, Mark, Cade, and me. "How did your fights go?" I mind-linked Kimi. "Good, the snow made people sloppy. We didn't lose a single fight, but I am sure we have some broken bones.

I looked at Len, who had a black eye. "None in the legs, I hope." "No, but I think my left arm might be broken. Could you set it for me after dinner?" "Kimi, you know I am the worst at healing; it's better to ask Saka or go to the clinic and have the doctor do it." "Fine, I will ask Saka, but I am not going to the doctor." "How are you supposed to fight if you have a broken arm?" "Easy, I am not going to. I will take third because I forfeit. Let the guys duke it out?"

"Seems solid. Who do you think will win?" "I have no idea they are equally paired." I signed. Cade mind-linked me. "Helen and Mark are concerned." "About what?" "The alphas are upset the north is going to place first, second, and third." "Well, it is their fault for not being better fighters." "I know that I am just telling you. You might want to tell Nieva." "Kimi, Len, and Saka give her an update every day. I don't think I need to unless she contacts me."

He nodded. After dinner, Saka reset Kimi's arms. I practiced signing with Robert and Cade. While Saka and Len went and had the last fight. Too many people were injured, and the ball would be postponed until tomorrow night. Which I was glad about, but also peeved because everyone would leave the following day. Robert had been studying independently when Cade and I went to bed. I wondered when he slept. He was a fast learner, and I knew Saka and Len had been teaching him our native tongue. He had spoken to me a few times using it, and I could read his lips. He was getting good at sign, too.

Cade was picking up signs, but it was taking him a little longer because, most of this week, we had not had much time to practice. "Good." We finished up. I signed. "Do you want to go check on George?" George had woken up yesterday, but he had been sleeping on and off all day. Cade and I went to his room and knocked. It was so weird that people didn't have dens here. Not that unmated wolves in the North cared about dens.
Dens were for mated couples. Unmated wolves lived in their family's den unless their parents were dead for some reason. If that was the case, they would have a tent to themselves, but they were not possessive over it like mated wolves were. George came to the door. "Alpha Luna, what can I do for you?" I read his lips. I mind-linked him. "Cade and I just wanted to check on you." "I am much better, thank you. I think I should head home. You have been so kind to let me stay here, but I don't want to intrude, nor do I want to take space up that I did not earn."

I smiled at him. I mind-linked Cade. "I wish we could give him a promotion of some kind." "Kaya, you do need another guard. You could give him that promotion." "Cade, I can't do that. He has a mate out there, and I told you before I won't have him sacrifice that life for mine." "Very well, I could make him a delta, I guess." "Please offer it to him. He showed great determination for our pack, and I think he could do so much for us with that kind of determination."

Cade looked at him, and I watched as his face lit up. He was super happy he mind-linked me. "I guess I am staying in this room." I nodded and smiled at him and mind-linked him again. "Talk to James. He will get you all squared away and give you some jobs to do." "Thank you so much, Luna." I nodded, and Cade and I left. Cade linked me, "I think he will do well at being a delta." "Well, he sure knows how to push past his comfort zone, that is for sure."

We returned to our room, and I stripped and crawled into bed. I hated sleeping in clothes. I had done it most of my life, and now that I had a mate and no children, I liked to have my bare skin in the bed. I liked having Cade's naked, muscled body holding mine. When we had kids, I would have to wear clothes most of the time and only get undressed when Cade and I had sex. But for now, I would enjoy the freedom of being naked in our den as long as I wanted.

Cade stripped and crawled into bed with me. He pulled me close to him. He linked me, "I am really concerned that the alphas are really upset about the north winning all the fights and, at this point, the tournament." "I told you before, Cade, they can be as upset all they want, but they can't hurt the North. They would never survive that kind of environment." "I guess you are right." I really had no concerns about the North being in any kind of danger.

I knew that Cade told me packs get mad when they feel like one pack is more powerful than the others. It is why his parents were killed. The others felt threatened, but they could get to Shadow Pack. They would have needed help to stay in the North. They couldn't hunt to keep themselves fed. They would also need to find out where the packs are. Only an insider would know that, or Cade, who had the Crescent Moon pack's coordinates. But even Cade didn't know where the other packs were. That is how I knew the South would be no real threat to the North.
