151. Cade

Cade

When I found Kaya, she was lying limply on the ground in her wolf form. She was a bloody mess. I ran to her. I nudged her with my nose, and there was no movement. I saw she was near the edge of the bluff. I looked over to see two wolves at the bottom. One had to be Howi. That was who she had been after but who was the other. I brought my attention back to Kaya.

I mind-linked her. "Kaya." But no response. I shifted to my human form, trying to shake her. She still did not move. I moved my head to her chest, and I heard her heartbeat. It was faint. I addressed her form. Her wolf was missing an ear. Her body was covered in bites and gashes. She had to have passed out from blood loss. I used what little strength I had to lift her in my arms. Her wolf was small, and I maneuvered to hold her. I carried her through the woods.

I needed help. Kaya needed help. With Howi being dead and the north coming to our aid, I hoped we would win and soon. There had to be someone to help me. I rushed her back as fast as I could, but I was also wounded and moved more slowly than I would have liked. When I got to where the thick of the fighting was, it looked like either wolves were fleeing or losing. I didn't hesitate to let out a howl to get my pack's attention. Then screamed over the pack link. "Doctor, I need the doctor." Minutes passed when no one responded. I tried again.

Still, I got no answer. I moved to the pack's clinic, hoping I would at least be able to stem the bleeding until help came. I pushed through the open doors. The place was vacant. I put her on the nearest gurney. I rushed around, trying to find something to stop the bleeding. I found gauze rushed to my little mate and began packing her wounds. There were so many, and she was not shifting.

I did my best to address what I could. There was lots of hair missing on her from where it had been ripped out. I tried again to mind link the pack. "Doctor," I screamed over the link. I waited, and then people began rushing in. Tons of wounded wolves were brought in. Then I saw the Doctor. Ones that could shift were rushing around naked. We had so many wounded it was overwhelming. The Doctor came up behind me. "Alpha?" "Work on Kaya. She is losing a lot of blood." The Doctor, who I was thankful survived, wheeled her away.

I watched as the Northerners started to bring people in. Where was Mark? I assumed we had won. "Mark?" I called out over the chaos. Mark was somewhere he had to be. I called over the link. "Cade, you okay." "I will be. How are you? Are you okay?" "I am. Helen took a bad bite to the side, but I think she will be okay. What about Kaya and Sol." "I don't know about Kaya. She was wrecked, and the Doctor wheeled her away from me and Sol. I need to find Becky. She had her last." " I am on my way to the clinic with Helen. I will see you soon." "No, I am going to get my daughter."

I ran out of the clinic, knowing Kaya was in good hands. I shifted back into my wolf form. Over the link, I called out to Becky. "Becky?" There was no response. Fuck, I thought. I still felt Sol through the link, but Becky was no longer on the link. I knew Becky was dead, but Sol was still alive. I ran to where I had seen her run off. I needed to track her. I ran, and bodies surrounded me. Laying dead on the ground. As I moved to the border, the bodies lessened. There was still some, but it was sparse.

I came to where the two wolves I killed lay. There dead bodies marking I was in the right place to start tracking. I took off following a trail. I ran and ran, and I started to see the blood. I then began to hear a cry. It was a baby. It had to be Sol. I ran faster than I saw it. A dead wolf with a knife protruding from its throat, and then I saw Becky. She was crumpled on the ground. Her arm was cleanly bitten through. I came up and shifted. Sol was lying in the dirt. I scooped her up, and she still cried as I held her. I looked back down at Becky. Her arm had been bitten through, and I knew she had bled out in her human form. I looked at the dead wolf. She had sacrificed herself to stab the wolf, killing it and herself in order to save Sol.

I looked down at my daughter. I didn't know if she had fallen in the fight, and I knew she needed to be checked out immediately. She had dirt and blood on her, but I didn't know if she was injured. I began to run with her in my arms. The doctors would know what to do. I ran into the clinic that was overflowing with people. The northerns had began to pitch in.
Someone had brought clothes, and most people were dressed at this point. However, I was butt naked. I screamed, using my alpha voice.

I needed to get someone to check Sol. As the next alpha, she was priority number one. Kaya and I would not have another; even if we could, she needed to be attended to before anyone. A woman rushed to me. It was a northern. "Cade, what is it?" I recognized her. I didn't know her name, but I knew she was from Cresent Moon Pack. "I need Sol checked out. I don't know if she is hurt." I looked down at her and saw she had stopped crying, but seeing her covered in blood and dirt still concerned me. Another northern woman rushed over. "I am a healer. Let me see her." I handed Sol to her. She moved into a vacant space and put her on the counter.

The woman began to strip Sol of her clothes, inspecting everything. Sol just wiggled a bit but was not overly fussy. The women looked at me. "She is okay. She looks like she has a bruise on her side from a fall, but her head did not get hit. She also needs a diaper change. But I am sure she will be okay." I let out a breath I had been holding. Sol was okay. Kaya, I hoped, would be too. I picked up Sol. She needed to be attended to, but I could not leave at the moment. My pack needed help, not to mention I knew I needed stitches.

Kimi came up to me. She looked like she had a rough go of it. Just like everyone else. "Cade, is Kaya okay? Is Sol? I have not seen her, but I feel she is still alive over the link." "Sol is okay, bruised but okay. I need you to take her and change her and watch over her. I can't leave now. Have you been checked out?" "No, I haven't." I looked over her and saw her side was still pouring out blood. Fuck, I could not ask her to take her. Then I saw a face. I could recognize it was Kaya's mother.

"Yara," "Cade, is that my granddaughter?" I nodded. "Please take her to our packhouse. It is the biggest building; some of Sol's things are in my office. Please get Sol cleaned up and look after her. There is breast milk in the fridge for her as well. It will need to be heated up." Yara looked confused. She had no idea what a fridge was. Just then, one of my teenage wolves came up next to Yara. "I will help her, Alpha." "Thank you." I handed Sol to Yara, and the two left. I started to get woozy all of a sudden and then crashed to the floor. My vision started getting blurry, and I suddenly couldn't stay awake.
