105. Cade

Cade

Kaya was sitting on the bed at the clinic. I felt terrible for bickering with her all morning. I just have been on edge since the whole thing with Jack. I was not mad that I killed him. He deserved to be dead for what he tried to do, but the repercussions of that scared me. I didn't want to have another slaughter like what happened with my parents. I needed to have everyone more than prepared for what may come. If they could walk, they needed to know how to fight. But, Kaya, I worried about her. If she was pregnant and war came, what would that mean? She should be far away from the fighting.

The doctor came in. Instead of looking at me, he looked at Kaya so she could read his lips. "Good morning, Luna, Alpha." She was scowling. Her mood, like mine, had been anything but friendly. And she didn't want to be here. She hated the doctor. Why, I had no idea. Probably because his advice was to be cautious, and that was not something she wanted to be. I mean, the way she grew up, you were dead if you were not active. I said, "We came to confirm she is pregnant and what she should be doing." "Well, we got the blood work back, and you, Luna, are carrying the next alpha."

I looked at Kaya, who now was beaming. Despite the craziness right now, I was elated. I would get to see her waddle around with our child in her. I came over to her and gave her a kiss on the forehead. Her whole body leaned into me. "So what should she be doing and not be doing?" I asked. He looked at Kaya. "Well, I am sorry. I know you have a taste for raw food, but that is a big no-no for pregnant females." Kaya stared at him. Then she burst out laughing. She came into the link. "Yeah, I am not doing that. Everyone eats raw meat in the north; I will still do it." The doctor continued.

"Eating raw meat increases the risk of parasites." Kaya was fighting her laughter. "Shifting is fine, but don't live as your wolf." She nodded. She probably knew that one. "Also, you need to protect that area that the baby is in, so any hard hits to the stomach or lower back are also not advised. So training needs to be limited." She nodded. "Unlike humans, the duration of pregnancy is seven months." She just sat there listening to him, as did I.

"Now I will give you a prenatal. You must take it daily; it's best to keep it by your bed. Take it before bed or when you wake up." She mind-linked me. "I am not taking medication because I am pregnant." she signed. "Kaya, a prenatal vitamin, is not medication. It is just a capsule packed full of vitamins and nutrients." She nodded. I knew that would be a challenge. Kaya only took what she wanted to, and if she didn't want to take a multivitamin, then she wouldn't. "We can schedule an ultrasound for 12 weeks. We will be able to tell the sex. You know humans have to wait until 18 weeks." Kaya signed. "I don't know what that is, but I don't want to know the sex. No one should know the gender of their child until they come out." He nodded, then proceeded to tell her what an ultrasound was.

He finished, and we left to schedule a follow-up appointment and to get the vitamins. Kaya and I left the clinic, and she smiled at me and signed. "We are going to have a baby." I pulled her into a hug. "Yes, we are." She smiled so big it was overwhelming. "I need to talk to my mother later today and tell her the good news, and then I will get actual advice." "Kaya, everything he said was good advice, and it seemed like you knew most of it." "Some of it was right, but not eating raw meat is ridiculous, and I refuse to not eat what I want." I just looked at her. I couldn't make her do anything, so I decided she would do what was best for our pup.

"Are we going to training now?" She mind-linked, "It is just finishing up, so not this morning, but tonight's training." "Well, for you, I must teach warriors more movements. They are getting better but not quite there yet, you know." "Kaya, you are not doing that anymore." "Why, the doctor you value so much just said no hits to the back or stomach." "You would get knocked around if you were training warriors." "Cade, I can show them what to do without being hit." I thought about it. "Fine, but you only demonstrate." She nodded. "What about tonight at training with the pack?"

"Easy, just train the little kids. You work with them all the time anyway; they like you, so just work with them on their technique. If worse comes to worse, at least they will know something. But I hope that if we are attacked, they will get to safety and not have to fight. But you never know. When the pack was attacked when I was a child, Mark and I both ended up fighting. Granted, we were not five years old, but some were." "I am okay with that plan. I like the little pups. They have not been tainted yet and can learn the proper way. Did I tell you one of them is pretty decent at throwing knives?"

"You have been teaching them to throw knives?" I mind-linked her. I was shocked she would be teaching five-year-olds to do that. She mind linked back. "Of course, I am teaching them to throw knives. How else will they hunt rabbits and other small animals without a wolf." "Our kid is going to be ferocious," Kaya smirked. I had to admit our child would be so lucky to have Kaya as their mother. They would be the most component wolf that ever lived. Then, the thought popped into my head. If we had a girl and could not have more children, I would be in the same position as Jack. Women were not the alphas in the South.
