Cade
I knew Kaya was pissed. She had felt like I chose Annalise over her, which was not the case. I just had to deal with everything. If I had left them alone, it would have made things worse. I headed to the arena with Mark and Helen. Mark said, "This is a horrible idea." "I agree, but what can I do? Jack wants retribution, and Kaya is okay with letting him have it. She knows I don't want to have a war with them." "You should not have allowed it," Helen said.
When we got to the arena, it was packed. How did everyone find out about this fight so fast? It was just decided. "Shit, Cade, everyone will see her get demolished," Mark said. I didn't know if that was the case, but I was nervous. Jack was there waiting. "Where is the savage?" "Don't call her that." I practically yelled. We all stood in the dirt when Kaya appeared. She had blood on her. She had hunted. But how it coated her skin made her look like a warrior. Goddess help her.
Fighting an Alpha was not something that ordinary wolves would do. Alphas fighting regular wolves, there was only usually one outcome, and I prayed to the Goddess that this would not be the day Kaya died. I had just found her. Why had I agreed to this? She was so tiny compared to Jack. My little mate stood in front of Jack. She didn't even look at me. So, on top of me worrying about her safety, she was still furious about me leaving her alone in our bed.
"No killing," I said, looking at Jack. He nodded. Kaya just stared at him. She had no emotion on her face. I mind-linked her. "No killing, okay, just stay focused and." "I am fine, Cade. Let me do what I must." She had cut me off. Even when she had mind-linked me, she did not look in my direction. Mark, Helen, and I gave them space, then yelled Go. Which, of course, Kaya didn't hear. But Jack started to engage, so she knew the fight had started.
Jack came in fast, but Kaya moved to dodge his fist. He was slower than I thought. I was happy about that. Kaya had a few kicks to his chest. But on the last one, he saw it coming and grabbed her leg, brought down his other arm, and you could hear the bone break. It was horrible. Kaya struggled but put pressure on the other leg, dragging the broken one. She got in some hits to his face as he went for her ribs.
She grabbed his hand on one of his punches. She would have no way to hold it, but she surprised everyone when she pulled his hand to her mouth and bit into it. Blood spilled from her mouth, and Jack howled. She had bitten through his hand. He ripped it away while he was distracted. She jumped on him. He thrashed as she bit again. It was gruesome; she ripped his ear clean off. Spitting it out into the dirt.
Suddenly, Jack shifted into a massive brown wolf. He had not taken kindly to being bitten into. She shifted. Mid-shift, he bit into her side. She howled in pain. She fell limp on the ground. Jack went to inspect her to see if she was knocked out. When he was close enough, she flipped over and bit into the bottom of his neck. He began to shake, trying to get her off, but she locked her jaw.
Her body was being pounded into the dirt. Jack was just trying to get her off of him. But no matter how many times he brought his head down with Kaya attached to him, she would not let go of his throat. He threw his body down on the ground, trying to crush her, but she would not release him. She held on by her jaws to the underside of his throat. I don't think she could have bitten him there without flipping him over if she had been a bigger wolf. All she had to do was rip her mouth away, and it could kill him. But she didn't plan on killing him. I had said no killing.
Jack's face could not reach her as her body was under his snout. His head was locked. He rolled and shook and kept slamming down over and over again. Kaya had to have many broken bones from being beaten like that, but she would not let go. Jack finally stopped moving. He began to shift back. Kaya finally let go. When she was in human form, she collapsed onto the ground.
The fight was over. It had been a draw. Jack stormed out of the arena, stopping to pick up his ear. He was covered in blood. Kaya's tiny naked body lay in the dirt. Mark and Helen ran with me to check on her. I rolled her onto her back and put my ear to her chest. She was breathing. I scooped her up, and all three of us ran her to the Clinic. She had survived, and that was all I could hope for.
Mark was the first to speak. "I have never seen anyone fight like her," Helen added. "I can't believe she came to a draw with Jack." I didn't say anything; the only thing I could think about was getting her healthy. We were not the only ones in the Clinic. Jack staggered in behind us. His hand was ripped into pieces. His good hand held his ear that would need to be reattached. His throat looked like it was about to fall out of his skin. There was blood dripping out of the wound.
He stared at the unconscious Kaya in my arms. The way he looked at her, I expected disgust, but it was something else. His look was something I couldn't place. The doctors rushed around, putting Kaya on a stretcher and helping Jack immediately. He was losing a lot of blood, and I would not be surprised if he needed a transfusion. "Alpha, wait here. We will tell you when we know what is going on." Helen sat down next to me, and Mark next to her.
"She will be okay, Cade," Helen said. "She is mad at me. I left her last night to go check on Annalise." Helen was silent. "I left her and then allowed this to happen. I am a horrible mate." Helen finally spoke. "Kaya will forgive you. She trusts that you and she are meant to be together. She knows beyond a doubt that The Moon Goddess has made you for her. You just need to apologize and not explain, apologize, and do better in the future."
We were sitting there waiting for what seemed like forever. When the doctor came out. "Alpha, Luna is going to be okay. She has a shattered leg, and all her ribs have broken. Her arms also have been broken, but her spine is intact. The leg should take a week, maybe two, to heal. But you must ensure she does not shift for two weeks." I let out a deep breath. I knew that it was the hardest to heal when the back was broken, so I was glad it had remained intact. Ribs were the easiest to remedy. The leg would not have taken so long, but it was shattered from the blow Jack gave her.
Her arms were probably broken from being thrown around and tossed when Jack tried to get Kaya off his neck. "How is Jack?" "He had to have his hand reconstructed as well as his ear. Also, he had to have a blood transfusion. He lost a lot of blood with his neck wound that had to be stitched and glued back together." I thanked him and sat back down. I got a mind link from James. "Alpha, you have a call from Luna Nieva." Why would Nieva be calling me?
