I wake up feeling refreshed. I snuggled into Kaya as she was still asleep soundly. I inhaled her scent. She smelled so sweet. She began to stir. I mind link her. "I had a good night." It was true I did. We had fun at the BBQ and then the surprisingly nice pack run. Almost the whole pack joined in. Showing me that the pack really was happy to have a Luna. There was no hesitation in the invitation that she extended.
"I have a busy day today." "Oh yeah, what do you have going on today?" "I have to do more tryouts for warriors. " "Oh. Um, what am I supposed to be doing." "Well, Helen will fill you in on all that, but mostly, you go around and help families in the pack." "Oh, I can do that, I guess. Also, feel free to change anything you want." "What do you mean?" "Well, if you want to change anything around the pack house, just ask Helen, and she will make it happen. And just in general things that you want to change."
"Oh, okay." "Now, I need to bring something to your attention." "What is that?" "Don't freak out." "Why would I freak out?" "It has to do with Annalise." She spun around to face me. I could tell by her face that she was already unhappy. "What about her?" "She is going to be staying here. "What? Why?"
"I had a marriage agreement with her father. He is the alpha of the largest pack on the continent. We would have joined our packs after I wed Annalise. But, seeing as that is impossible now, he wants me to arrange a new match for her. But while I do that, he wants her to stay here." "Why can't you do that while she remains at her father's pack." "Look, I couldn't exactly say no." "And why not." "He threatened to attack the pack. Now I know we are stronger and would win, but we would lose a lot of people as they have the numbers." "Fine." "Come on, don't be like that. I didn't want her to come." "When will she be here." "In the next few days. Bryan called Joey and said they were leaving soon." "Fine."
She then got out of the bed and slammed the bathroom door. I knew she would not be happy. But my hands were tied. I knew she knew that but had every right to be pissed about it. I knocked on the door. There was no response. I knocked again. Why was she not answering? Then, it occurred to me she could not hear me. Shit, I had forgotten. She always had stuff to say over mind link that I forgot she could not hear. I mind-linked her, "Kaya?" "Can we just drop it? Let's just not mention it till she is here. I don't want to think about it until I must." "Okay."
I was happy she wanted to drop it. I tried to leave Annalise alone in this relationship. It didn't take long till she came out of the room fully dressed. She gave me a kiss and then left the room. I figured she would get breakfast, and then she and Helen would figure out what they needed to do for the day.
I got ready quickly and went down to the dining room for breakfast. When I got down, there was no sign of Kaya or Helen. I did see Mark and a few gammas there. "Good morning, Alpha," Joey said. "Morning." I approached Mark. "The girls took their food to go. Kaya wanted to eat in the woods." "Oh." "I take it you told her about Annalise." "Yeah." We just ate in silence. "We have the tryouts again today." "Yeah." After breakfast, we went down to the arena. I looked at the ten applicants in front of me.
"Now, you will demonstrate speed. We will have a race. The last four to cross the finish line will be cut. "We had them line up at the start line, and Mark and I were at the finish line. They took off. It took them only a short time to complete this task. It was a close race, but the bottom three were out in the end. Not wasting any time, I looked at the remaining wolves.
"The last test is skill at fighting. Now, you will pair off. Beta and I will walk around and be judging you all." They began to fight; Mark and I took our time to watch them. They switched partners so that everyone had a turn to fight each other. "Alright, that is." "We will let you all know if you made it or if you should try again next year." As they shuffled out of the arena. I looked at Mark. "So, what do you think?" "Well, there is a top application, that is for sure. "Yeah, Robert is for sure in. I mean, he can fight. He was also first in the race. Then I was thinking, Sherri." "Yeah, I would say it is better to decide to get out." "I would say there are only two that really I think will have to try again." "George and Macie." "Yep." "Do you want to tell them, or should I?" "I will tell the ones who made it; you can tell George and Macie." "Sounds good."
As we began to walk back to the packhouse, Mark asked. "So, when do you think you will tell Kaya she needs a guard assigned to her." "Probably today. I have a feeling sooner would be better." "How do you think she will take it." "I don't know. I doubt she even needs a guard to protect her." "You know that is not the only reason she needs guards." "I know."
I was sure she would not want them. But I know she needed guards. If something were to happen to me and she needed to flee they would protect her. But, unlike other Lunas she could always go back to the North. Which was something other people didn’t have the luxury of.
