Cade

Kaya had left a few days ago, and the rest of the pack was moving out to the North. I was super nervous about the whole thing. Nieva had sent down a few people to lead Shadow Pack to the North and some to stay behind and fight. Three of the six that were staying to fight found their mates in our pack. I was surprised. Kaya was not the least surprised.
She reminded me again about the fact that most people in the North were not finding mates. I still didn't know what that meant. But I didn't have time to look into that. Not that I could do anything about it because only the Goddess made the matches between mates. Len came up to me. "Alpha, we will take good care of them, I swear." "I know you will, Len. Are you excited to go back to the North?" "Honestly, yeah. I love it here, but it is starting to get too warm. I miss my family. My mother is so excited to meet my mate." I smiled.

I was glad I had gotten him and Saka satellite phones. They, unlike Kaya, were no longer linked to the Crescent Moon Pack. Kimi had not formally joined the pack, but when everything was settled, she planned on joining our pack. She asked to join once she mated Charlie, but I told her it was best to keep the connection in case we needed to talk to the North and if, for some reason, I could not call Nieva. Saka came up to Len and I. "Well, Kaya was certainly thorough with the list of things to bring to the north." "Is there more than they needed?"

"Hell no, Kaya was exactly right. Though the people with babies will hate having to change cloth diapers." I smiled. Thank the Goddess Kaya, and I would not have to use cloth diapers. Some of the pack were nervous about going to the North. But some of them were excited. The teens that were going were practically bursting at the seams to get to go. Saka grabbed my arm, something they did in the North. Then Len did the same. I watched as all the vehicles pulled out and left.

Tomorrow, Charlie, Myself, Mark, Kimi, and a few others would meet in my office and start to plan this war. Today was just to say goodbye to loved ones. I wanted to see Kaya so bad. It had only been a few days, but I had missed her already. Hell, I missed her the second she left. She mind-linked me every day, usually multiple times, but she had been silent this morning. I decided to link her. "Kaya." No response. That was odd. I mind-linked Robert. "Hey, Robert." "Alpha." "How is she? What is she doing?" "Oh, she is still asleep. I think today we may venture out."

"Some women came and introduced themselves yesterday," I remember Kaya had told me about it. They had brought cookies to welcome Kaya and Robert to the neighborhood. But Kaya had said they looked freaked out when they saw her. Robert had to translate for her, and she felt they didn't like her. Not that she seemed to care. "Yeah, Kaya told me." "I can tell her to mind link you when she wakes up." "No need. I know she will mind linking me later today. Anyways, be careful if you are going to leave the house." "I will, Cade."

I dropped the link and went to find Mark. Helen had wanted to stay and fight, but Mark had insisted she go to the North to help the pack. She had never been the Luna, but she knew the job as she tried to fill in until I had a mate in the past. The pack was used to her, and she could help them get situated. Not to mention, I knew Mark didn't want her to be here and risk her fighting and dying. Helen was an okay fighter but certainly could have been better.

I knew Mark was happy she would be safe. Both of us knew just how bad war could be. As young kids, we saw almost everyone we knew dead. We were so young, and there were so many dead that we burned everyone. Digging would have taken too long. But pulling the bodies and setting the fires had taken three days. Less than fifty survived the last attack on Shadow Pack. History would not repeat itself. I would die before I let that happen.

I needed to check on Mark, though. He would be upset, just like I was when Kaya left. I mind linked him to try and find him. "Mark, where are you?" "In my den." Like most of the pack, he started to make dens like Kaya made in our room. No one was allowed in the homes of others. When people began to do that, I commanded that no one would enter each other's homes, so now, when people hung out, it was mostly outside or in the community buildings.

"Want to come to my office and have a drink?" I thought a drink would help relax him. "Nah, Cade, I am just going to be alone for the rest of the day. Tomorrow, I will have my head in the game." "Sounds good, Mark." I dropped the link and then went to my office. I needed to start thinking about a good place to start. I mind-linked one of the wolves I had watching Howi's pack. "How is it going there?" "Good alpha, a few of the wolves left yesterday, maybe ten of them. I don't know where they went, but they have not returned yet."

"Thanks for the update. Keep me posted. I want to know when people are coming and going." "Yes, alpha." I sat down at my desk. I knew we could not just attack Howi. We needed to draw them out in small groups so we could manage their numbers. We would also need to set up traps maybe that would take care of large numbers. I would rely on the northerns that had come down here for traps. They were excellent trappers and hunters. Maybe they could help with a strategy. I sat there for the rest of the day, thinking of ways to draw out small groups from Howi's pack.
