I watched how Kaya loved being with her friends. They understood her in a way I never could, and it made me feel like maybe I had ruined her life by bringing her back here. She was still mad at me over Annalise. No matter the fact that now that Annalise was out of the clinic, I had stayed away from her, and she had stayed away from me. Jack had left. The tournament would be in a week.

Kaya seemed to be constantly doing something, never wanting to spend time together. I knew I had messed up running out on her that night, but I thought she would forgive me, but now I was unsure. I knew we needed to talk, but she didn't want to discuss what happened every time I tried. She did, however, take to teaching me to sign every night.

I had learned a lot in a week. Learning her native language, though, had been a non-starter. I sat there behind my desk. I looked at Kaya's empty desk. She had insisted on working out of the office. I am sure it was because she was trying to stay clear of me as much as possible. We needed to get to the bottom of things.

Kaya would be in a better mood tonight with her friends being here. Tonight, we could makeup, I thought to myself. Mark knocked before he came in. "So it seems Kaya is happy." "It would seem so." "She still giving you the cold shoulder?" "Yeah, unfortunately." "You should do something for her. When Helen and I fight, that woman can hold a grudge, and I usually have to find something to pull her out of it." "What do you suggest?" "Some women like flowers or jewelry, but I doubt those things will appeal to Kaya, though maybe she would like some flowers. But what does she like?" "She likes hunting."

"Anything else?" "Not that I know of." "You really don't know much about her, do you?" "I guess I don't." I didn't even know what her favorite color was. "Well, I suggest you get her a gift something to do with hunting and then make time to get to know her. You have the mate bond, and it is wonderful and everything, but it takes a lot to make a relationship work. The bond tells you you are meant for each other, but that does not mean you shouldn't get to know her as you know yourself. As the relationship strengthens, so does the bond."

"When did you get so smart, Mark?" "I have been mated for a few years now, as you know, and trust me, it is not always easy. Helen has a wicked temper when she feels she is wronged. The first year, I was often in the wrong. She was worse than Kaya. Kaya at least talks to you. Helen would straight up act like I didn't exist." "I don't remember that." "That is because she never shut you out, just me." I smiled at him. Mark really was my best friend.

"So what is Luna doing with her friends?" "Robert informed me they were wandering around the pack, taking in all the buildings." "You must admit it is a culture shock to all of them. To be here, we saw how they lived. It was primitive. Not that it was bad, just very archaic." "I know." "Do you think you will allow your children to live like their mother?" "What?" "You know the tattoos and everything." "I don't see why I wouldn't?"

"And what if you have a girl first? Will you break tradition and make her alpha." I didn't want to think about this kind of thing right now. "Mark, Kaya has not even gone into heat. She is not pregnant, so I don't need to discuss or think about it now. If I don't fix the rift, then there will be no children, I am afraid." "Right." He went on to talk about the tournament, and we went over who had agreed to come.

The event would be a week long. I would make introductions of Annalise and show her around to eligible wolves. That would be a good match. I wanted to introduce her to Charlie as he was who I first thought of. But Annalise was a lot, and I didn't know if he wanted to tie his life to hers. Then, a few others were not alphas but would make good ones in the future.

Annelise had already found her mate. She rejected him with her father's approval because he was not a good fighter, nor did he have any rank. From what I was told, he was a cook in their packhouse. Annalise felt no remorse about ending their connection. She wanted her mate to be someone powerful and robust.

I understand her desire to have someone with strength. When I met Kaya, I thought she was weak because she could not hear, and I wondered what would happen if I had a weak Luna. It was no secret my pack had several rogues, and they needed a heavy hand. I worried she would not be up for it if she was weak. I had been proven wrong. Apparently, not only had she exceeded expectations, but the pack thought of her as a little too brutal when finding solutions to their problems.

The issue would always be resolved, but the word among the pack she was forceful. No one laughed at her tattoos; they said, "It made her look like a warrior wearing war paint." I had heard a few men discussing the fight between her and Jack. They went on to say that they felt like everyone should fear us with such a Luna. I smiled and continued to walk. The words among the pack were all the same: pride, amazement, curiosity, and a healthy dose of fear. I was satisfied with the pack's view of her.

The North would be fully displayed with the tournament, showing our apparent alliance with them. Having such an alliance with such skilled fighters would deter people from wanting to attack us. I sat there with Mark, going over plans and housing for the occasion until dinner time.
