Kaya
Kimi and I got dressed for the ball again with Helen. This time, I insisted my long, straight-black hair flow down my back. The dress was not low on the back like my last one, and I wanted my hair down. Tonight would be the awards, and I knew the North would take first and second, and third would be shadow pack. I was proud of my friends. Len had won the last fight of the night, and Saka had been anything but a sore loser. He was happy Len had won. As was Kimi, and even Cade.
I wore a light cream-colored dress with sheer fabric sleeves and intricate beadwork. It was not low in the back but showed off a fair amount of cleavage. My makeup was much lighter than last time. I told Helen she looked beautiful every day, but I could not put the makeup on as often as she did. Which she totally understood. The three of us really did look amazing.
Cade wore a black suit that made him look all the yummier and made me think of the first night we met and I found out he was my mate. I was so happy that the tournament was over. Everyone would leave after breakfast, and then we would all wait a week, and things would start to change. Cade and I would work out what needed to happen to strengthen our pack. He also wanted Saka, Len, and Kimi to be involved since they would stay here till the end of April or early May.
Cade and I announced how Annalise and Howi would be mated and wished them a happy life, but I didn't think their pairing would be suitable for anyone. Howi took me for another turn on the dance floor, and yet again, I read his lips as he talked to me, "Kaya, the North won, but they won't always. You know I now will have the biggest pack on the continent. Imagine what great things I could do with a pack that big." The dance finished, but he let me read his lips before he left. "I will be seeing you again, Kaya."
I danced with several others. Even Robert danced with me, though I don't think he really enjoyed dancing. Cade danced with me a lot more than the first ball, probably because he didn't have to make a match for Annalise. This match didn't sit right with me, but I could do nothing about it now. Charlie came up to me he wanted a dance.
I liked Charlie. I could see why he and Cade were friends. He was a likable guy. Not too serious. From what I understood, he had a small pack on with such a community a lot like mine. Not in the sense of tents and living off the land, but a good comradery. At least, that is what Cade told me. We were dancing when he started to talk. I looked at his mouth to see what he was saying. "Luna Kaya, I talked to Cade, and he told me that you would advise me to be more in tune with the Goddess." I nodded. I hope that for everyone.
"Well, I plan to do it all. I would love to hear any advice you give me about how to do that. And then maybe the Goddess will bless me with a second chance, mate." I smiled at him. I pulled him from the floor to find Cade. He would tell him all that I wanted to say. We finally found him talking to Jack. Who, upon seeing me, looked over me like I was a piece of food. It made my stomach twist.
I mind-linked Cade. "I want you to tell Charlie what I am thinking. He wants advice on how to get right with the Goddess." I watched as Cade excused himself, and we took a place near one of the walls. I mind-linked Cade, who repeated what I was saying. "So first things first, everyone in the pack should ask for the Goddess's blessing before eating. Then there are pack runs. If you can't do it as often as you like, make sure you do it on the full moon."
"Also, we love to celebrate the Goddess on winter solstice. It is a big celebration. We kill a huge animal and thank the Goddess. There is also a lot of dancing under the stars around the fire, lots of drinking and smoking, sheesh." Charlie looked at me, confused. "Sheesh is a herb we smoke that makes you euphoric." I watched his lips. "Like weed." I didn't know what that was, but Cade nodded.
I went on. "You also need to start hunting. Eating more food from nature is important. You can hunt as wolves. It makes it easier. You can write to me and Cade, and we can advise you." He talked again, which I watched. "I will do that. Thank you." I smiled at him. "Those are the main things, and just talk to the Goddess. She is always there to listen to if you need her."
Charlie went to see if Kimi wanted to dance. After the incident at the last ball, she had not wanted anyone besides a select few to dance with her. I mind-linked her to tell her Charlie was one of the good ones. Cade and I decided it was a good time for another dance. We moved to the center of the floor. But unlike most songs, I felt something. It was vibrations. He smiled. "Do you like your gift?" "What?" I mind-linked him.
"I read that deaf people can feel the vibrations of music, so I had them crank up the music as loud as they could. I knew it would be hard to feel if with many people in the room." I smiled; he had done this for me. I could not contain myself. I grabbed him and pressed my lips to his. He was too good for me. He pulled away and mind-linked me. "We should dance." He pulled me close, and unlike most dances, this was sensual and filled with tension. I was so exceptionally happy. He kept the music loud for the rest of the night, and I could feel it in my whole body.
