Kaya
I landed just fine. The snow was so much deeper than I thought it would be at this time of the year. Not to mention, it was powder and not hard like ice or packed snow at all. It didn't seem natural. This had to be the Goddess's doing. She had to have made the ground better for falling into. I looked around and Saw Robert lying in the powder. I ran to him.
He was lying there limp. I sniffed him. He was still breathing. He needed to be mended. I looked around frantically. There was not much around me. I saw some trees in the distance. There had to be something there. I used my snout to feel around until I felt blood on his shoulder. I used my paw to roll him and saw it went straight through. He would be okay. I didn't know why he was still asleep. They had to have given him something else besides shooting him.
The wound was nasty but it could be mended. Maybe they had drugged him again while I was passed out. I tried to mind link, Cade. "Kaya, what is it?" "I was taken. I am, well, I don't know, somewhere in the North." "I am going to come for you. Stay put; I will find you." "I can't stay here, Cade. I will find you. I can find my way back to Crescent Moon. Howi didn't know where it was located and tried to use me to find it. But I refused, and Robert is unconscious. I have to help him." "Kaya, you can't be on your feet, the baby." "Cade, I will be okay. I can't mind link, okay, I need to focus. I love you." Then, I dropped the link.
I needed to focus on the task at hand. There was only one thing to do: pull Robert and hope I found something in the woods to help him. I knew I could not stay in my wolf form. But I didn't have another choice. If I shifted now, I would be naked in the Arctic. I bit into Roberts's shirt and began to pull him. But the shirt ripped.
This was impossible. How would I get him to the woods? I decided it would be best to leave him, make a dash for the woods, and come back. I could be fast. I was in my wolf form. I licked him on the shoulder and took off as fast as possible. I ran until I found the little wooded area. I needed to find some way to make a sled.
I shifted into my human form. I had to make the sled. I ignored the cold on my naked body. I grabbed the extensive logs and small twigs to wave a loose pattern to carry Robert. My stomach started to cramp. The pain was horrible. But I could not stop. I had to help Robert. It took me much longer than I thought it would be. I made a sled, which was not very good, but I didn't have the stuff I needed to improve it. I shifted and ran the thing back to where Robert was lying. His breathing was more noticeable. I was sure he would wake up soon. I had to shift back to a human to pull him on the sled, but my stomach hurt more every second.
I shifted, biting into the sled and pushing it to the woods. My stomach, now in wolf form, was cramping beyond belief. I knew what was coming. The baby. I needed things. I needed a fur. I needed a knife to at least cut the cord. Fuck, I thought I had to hunt something big and do it fast. I knew labor could take hours long, so I had time. I had only started to feel contractions two hours ago. I set the sled down once I had Robert and the sled in the trees. I sniffed the air. Thank the Goddess, I smelt something big.
I ran as fast as I could, not bothering to be cautious. Then I saw an elk. I didn't hesitate and lunged at its throat as hard as I could. I would bring it down and fast. I had nothing to gut it with. But maybe Robert did. I would have to drag it back to him. He still had his clothes, so he may have something valuable. It took all my strength to carry the enormous carcass to where I had left Robert. When I arrived, he was starting to wake up.
"Kaya, he mind-linked me." "You are okay, but I need to know if you have a knife." He moved slowly but felt down to his foot and then to his boot pulling out a knife. He reached into the other and pulled out another one. "Thanks," I said, taking them. I knew I was naked, but there was nothing to do about that now. I needed to carve up the animal. Robert looked at me, and then he realized what was going on. The drugs wearing off faster now. Robert mind linked me. "Kaya, let me and here." He took off his shirt and handed it to me.
I sat down for the first time in hours. The contractions were so painful. I just needed to hang on until the animal was cleaned and we had fur to wrap the baby in. It would not be a tanned hide, but keep the baby warm. Robert finished in record time. The Goddess truly was looking out for us. I mind-linked him, "Can you start a fire, Robert." He did as I asked. I knew there was no more time. The baby was coming. "Robert, the baby is coming." "What?" "Yes." I need you to help me remember the baby did not turn his or her feet first." "Kaya, I don't know what to do?" "Here is what you are going to do. I am going to push. You catch the baby, and if I tell you, you will cut it out of me. If that happens, you will find Cade and deliver the baby to him. Do you understand?" "Kaya, I can't let you die." "Look, this may go two ways. One everything goes well and the baby comes out. Or two, you will have to cut me open, or both me and baby will die. So I command you to do as I say."
Robert looked horror-stricken. This was it. I began pushing as hard as I could but knew nothing was happening. I mind-linked, "Robert, you will have to cut into me." "Kaya." "Do it, and tell Cade I love him, okay. Tell my kid I loved them every day." Robert nodded, and between his tears, he began to cut into my stomach. The pain was the worst thing I had ever felt. Robert mind linked me. "Kaya, it is a girl; she is beautiful." I smiled, and then everything became white. I knew this was death.
