Chapter 106 Charles is Proficient in Six Languages
"Hey, Charles! Mr. Thomas moved out of the beachfront villa a few days ago. I've been out shopping for new furniture and stuff. I bought a ton of things at the supermarket this morning. Do you know what tomorrow is?" Jessica asked excitedly over the phone.
She seemed to be in a great mood, probably because she had just moved into the garden villa.
"Of course I know, it's your birthday tomorrow. I've already got your gift ready!" Charles answered.
"By the way, Charles, don't get me anything too expensive tomorrow. I've invited a lot of friends from the student council. If you give me something too pricey, I'll feel embarrassed to accept it!" Jessica seemed to have a hunch that Charles would give her an expensive gift.
Charles was speechless. 'Are women's sixth sense always this accurate? I've already bought you a Ferrari LaFerrari, and now you're telling me not to get you anything expensive a day before? Isn't this putting me in a tough spot?'
But Charles had already suspected this might happen. When a girl really liked you, she might not want to spend your money and might even try to save money for you because she wanted to leave a better impression on you. Jessica's attitude confirmed this.
"Alright, I'll think of something else to get you then!" Charles said, with a troubled look.
'Getting a birthday gift for a girl seems to be a particularly worrisome task,' he mused.
"I need to clean up now! Goodbye!"
"Jessica, hurry up and clean the windows. This house is so big, and you didn't even hire a couple of cleaners. Instead, you're dragging me here to do the hard work, and I'm really fed up. If I ever have nowhere to go, I'll just stay at your place and never leave."
Before Jessica hung up the phone, Charles seemed to hear Sarah's complaining voice. He realized that Jessica hadn't been in touch much these past few days because she was busy moving into the villa.
'Anyway, this ten-million-dollar villa belongs to her now. Naturally, she's very attentive to it. She probably called to give me an update,' he figured.
Jessica got busy after hanging up the phone. Alice remained calm, not asking or saying anything. Girls from her kind of upbringing were usually very smart. They knew what questions could be asked and what couldn't, and sometimes, even if you asked, you might not get a truthful answer.
Alice wasn't an insecure woman and had never been jealous over a man because she didn't need to be. In her mind, as long as she was excellent enough, it should be other women who get jealous, not her. And indeed, that was the case.
Whether it was young couples dating in school or those holding hands on the street, when they encountered Alice, the boys would instinctively fix their gaze on her, sometimes even ignoring their girlfriends, which led to their girlfriends getting jealous and complaining. Because she was so beautiful, Alice often felt troubled.
Every time she went out, people couldn't help but turn to look at her. It was so bad that some guys even walked into lampposts.
Maybe if it happened once or twice, she'd feel flattered. But when it happened all the time, she hated the attention. So, she started wearing a mask whenever she went out. Back then, it made her look a bit odd since not many people wore masks. But now, with everyone wearing them, she blended right in.
The person who just called Charles was obviously a girl, but Alice didn't get jealous. Charles was already with her, which made others more jealous. Doubt would only push a man away. She didn't mind Charles having normal social interactions because she was confident.
"A classmate of mine is having a birthday party tomorrow. Wanna come?" Charles asked Alice.
Even if she wasn't jealous, Charles felt it was important to invite her to show his openness.
"No, I have a lot to do at home and some school stuff to handle. I probably won't have time. Besides, I don't know anyone at your school, so it wouldn't be appropriate for me to go."
"That's a shame. If you went, everyone would be really happy!" Charles looked dejected but actually felt relieved.
'If Alice went to Jessica's birthday party, it would be super awkward,' he thought.
"Well, next time I get a chance, I'll definitely visit your school!" Alice blinked her big round eyes and nodded. Charles couldn't tell if she was jealous or not.
If it were Lisa, she would've been furious if another girl called her boyfriend. She would've demanded answers. Alice's reaction was completely different, making Charles feel a bit out of place. Maybe he was just used to being a simp! It was an instinctive reaction.
Then Charles took Alice to a French restaurant. Alice was surprised to find out that Charles was more fluent French than she was. Not only that, during their meal, Charles also spoke six languages, including Russian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and English!
The more Alice talked with Charles, the more she admired him, almost to the point of reverence. She had a natural talent for languages. Even so, it took her over ten years to barely master five languages. But Charles knew even more than she did.
After getting to know him better, Alice realized Charles was even more impressive than she had imagined. And coincidentally, the four other languages Charles knew were the same ones she had learned. So they had a lot to talk about. They even played a game of answering each other in different languages.
Of course, Alice didn't know that Charles had acquired his language skills from her through Role Reversal rewards.
