Chapter 219 Heart Bleeding
Leo had no clue if Alice really had any dirt on him, but her confidence suggested she knew something. "Alice, let me explain, I didn't mean any harm back then!"
"I get it!" Alice was fuming. Leo's words were basically an admission! No need for explanations now!
So, he was already a jerk in high school. Why did he have to use such sleazy tactics to chase a girl?
All these years, she thought Leo was a decent guy—passionate and pretty impressive. Even recently, she felt a bit bad for blocking him just because he bad-mouthed Charles.
But now, she felt totally justified. Everything Charles said was spot on, and he never lied to her.
Leo, on the other hand, claimed he waited for her for five years, which was a total lie. He had dated several girls but still acted all smitten in front of her?
Plus, this guy trashed others behind their backs, his behavior was super shady, and to win her over, he kept using go-betweens. His methods were dirty, pulling every trick in the book! He was full of contradictions, not a single honest word.
"Alice, it must be that scumbag Charles talking trash about me, right? He told you about that high school thing, didn't he? Don't buy his crap, I really didn't lie to you..."
Alice cut him off, "Enough, I don't need your excuses, I'm not in the mood for your nonsense. Who's slandering who, I can judge for myself. Leo, your behavior right now is really grossing me out!"
Alice's words hit Leo like a ton of bricks, leaving him completely stunned. He couldn't believe Alice thought he was so despicable.
Alice actually found him disgusting? No girl had ever said that to him since he was a kid.
Leo had always been popular with girls since middle school. He was tall, had a sunny disposition, came from a well-off family, dressed stylishly, and was pretty athletic. Even though his grades sucked, his bad boy image always drew the girls in.
Since high school, from the moment he first saw Alice, he was head over heels. He even lost sleep over her, totally smitten.
Alice was amazing, ranking second in the entire grade in the first midterm exam. She was the campus queen, the dream girl for countless boys at Unity Peak High School.
To be more worthy of Alice, Leo started getting up at six every morning to run and train. He finally won the campus sprint championship at a school sports meet and became famous overnight.
He even got love letters from some girls, but Leo didn't care. He only had eyes for Alice.
Finally, Leo found a chance to confess to Alice, but she said she was too young and didn't want to date yet, gently turning him down.
Leo didn't give up. Egged on by a few buddies, he set up this whole hero-rescues-damsel scenario, hoping it would win Alice over. That night, if he had just stepped in and scared off those two thugs, showing off his heroic side, he might've had a shot with Alice!
But then Charles, the troublemaker, showed up and ruined everything!
Leo was so pissed he even beat up Charles to blow off steam. As a former high school big shot, bullying a nobody like Charles was no big deal.
Since that botched setup, Leo kept looking for another chance. But Alice got cautious, always walking with friends or getting picked up by her family.
He never got another shot to pull the same trick.
But Leo kept waiting for another opportunity to win Alice over, until they graduated high school. He thought he'd get his chance, but when the college entrance exam results came out, he realized the gap between him and Alice was massive.
She got into a top ten university in the country with stellar grades, and he, with his average scores, only got into Lacus Magnus University thanks to his athletic talent.
On graduation day, another standout guy confessed to Alice in front of the whole school. That guy was Patrick. Patrick was handsome, had great grades, came from a good family, and in the eyes of their classmates, he was clearly more impressive than Leo.
That day, Leo had ninety-nine roses ready, all set to confess to Alice, but he was too late. When he saw Patrick kneeling with flowers, saying all those sweet words, he hesitated!
Alice gently turned Patrick down.
Even with his low emotional intelligence, Leo knew Alice wouldn't reject Patrick and then immediately accept him.
So, his plan failed again!
After starting college, Leo felt Alice slipping further away, so he started to indulge himself.
Being quite popular, he dated over a dozen girlfriends in just three years. Each relationship lasted less than three months on average, and the shortest was less than a month.
He always felt that dating these girls was just to satisfy his physical needs, given his youthful energy. But in his heart, he didn't love any of them. The woman he truly loved was still Alice, but he couldn't have her.
So many years had passed. If Alice found a boyfriend, he could accept it. But if that boyfriend was Charles, he couldn't stand it!
Not to mention the bad blood between him and Charles. In high school, wasn't Charles just a coward, a loser?
"Alice, why can you like Charles but not me? I just wanted to expose Charles's douchey behavior to keep you from getting hurt, and you say I'm disgusting?" Leo said.
"I do say you're disgusting, so what? Charles never talked trash about you behind your back. If he really wanted to, he could've told me everything you did in high school, but he never did. Even now, he only let it slip by accident. Charles's character is a thousand times better than yours. Don't you feel ashamed?"
"Even if Charles is a douchebag, I still like him, and it has nothing to do with you!" Alice shot back coldly.
Hearing this, Leo stumbled back three steps, feeling like his heart had been shattered.
