Chapter 185 Mr. Lee's Fury
Snow spent like an hour and a half in the boys' dorm, mostly 'cause Charles had a mountain of dirty clothes.
After tackling the laundry, she went all out and tidied up Charles's stuff—bed, bookshelf, shoes, you name it. Charles was kinda embarrassed, to be honest.
Sometimes, guys can get all up in their feels too, you know?
When a girl’s down to do your laundry, cook, and even wash your underwear, it hits different. It’s a whole vibe that can outshine looks, smarts, and all that jazz.
Charles felt a little something-something too. Bet he never thought the first girl to wash his undies, besides his mom, would be Snow. Given her usual vibe, it seemed super unlikely.
Who would've guessed, right?
By 10:30 PM, Charles walked Snow out of the dorm and headed to her place. The rain had stopped, but Charles thought it might start up again, so he handed her an umbrella.
Snow’s crib was at Harmony Gardens, just a hop, skip, and a jump from school. Less than a ten-minute walk, and they were at Building Nine.
Snow finally broke the silence, "Charles, I haven't added you on Facebook yet. Tomorrow, I wanna invite you to KoiTech Inc. How 'bout it?"
"Sure thing!"
Charles whipped out his phone, opened the QR code, and let her scan it. Snow’s cheeks were a bit flushed. Was she trying to butter him up for a business deal, or was she just using work as an excuse to add him on Facebook?
After adding him, Snow seemed pretty stoked.
"Bye-bye, get some sleep, good night!"
Watching Snow get on the elevator, Charles felt a twinge of regret. He didn’t ask to go up for a drink. Not that she would've said yes anyway. Snow was super friendly today, but she had her boundaries.
She’d get real annoyed if a guy tried to make a move or ask for something. The key was, the favorability level wasn’t high enough yet. It was only at 80 points.
'Maybe I should just buy KoiTech tomorrow and hand it over to Snow. That way, I can wait for the favorability level to flip and maybe make some cash too! I dropped four billion on the Gold Trade Building today and didn’t get any rebate. Kinda sucks!' Charles thought, shaking his head.
But he didn’t regret it. At least there was still a 20-point boost, right?
Giving the building to Alice was a calculated move. At that time, Charles didn’t have many options.
He didn’t wanna give anything to someone like Lisa, and some folks just weren’t right for a building gift.
For Grace, he planned to invest in a film company for her, and he’d just given her a necklace and transferred millions. A building wouldn’t be the best move!
And for Jessica, since she’d just confessed to him that afternoon, giving her a building would be like sealing the deal. He couldn’t do that!
Lori, who he’d just started getting to know, was still a mystery to Charles, and she was Jessica’s bestie. In this situation, he couldn’t go after her!
And Nancy? Yeah, that was a no-go! Her dad's a big shot, and she's a cop. Handing her a four-billion-dollar building? That'd look like a bribe, no doubt.
So, after mulling it over, Alice was the best bet!
Back in the dorm, Charles took a shower and hit the sack. His roommates, who were initially floored, had pretty much gone numb. Guess you get used to the shock after a while!
Meanwhile...
In a swanky villa in New York, a burly dude in his forties with a scruffy face was on the phone, losing his mind.
"Useless! You're all useless! I paid you a fortune, and now you're telling me it's outta control? What good are you?" Mr. Lee bellowed, smashing his phone to the floor. The new Apple phone shattered, screen all cracked up.
A young starlet in her twenties stood trembling beside him. She thought she could sleep her way to the top since Mr. Lee promised her the lead in his next flick. But right after she gave it up, Mr. Lee's world went to hell.
Olivia had blown the lid off the casting couch scandal with Mr. Lee, and the whole entertainment industry was in chaos. Trolls were tearing him apart online, and everyone was condemning him. Some artists even sued him, trying to throw him in jail!
This mess all started with Grace, an artist who'd been blacklisted for a year. When Grace first ranted on Twitter, Mr. Lee didn't sweat it. A disgraced artist trying to sling mud and fix her rep by hiring trolls? She thought she could take down a director with nearly twenty years in the biz? Dream on.
He squashed that quick. But then Olivia stepped up!
Olivia was a big deal. Nine years in the industry, over thirty movies and TV shows, more than ten variety shows, and international brand endorsements. She had over twenty million Twitter followers! Her clout was way beyond Grace, who'd only been hot for half a year.
Olivia's bombshell about being coerced was career suicide, but she did it anyway. The industry exploded. With more artists coming forward, Mr. Lee's rep was toast.
Everyone knew Mr. Lee's game. Some actresses would cozy up to directors or investors to climb the ladder. It wasn't unheard of. And some directors or investors would use their power to get "close" to actresses. It was a mutual thing.
But the key was keeping it hush-hush. Once it went public, it could mean coercion charges and even jail time!
Mr. Lee had hustled for over twenty years to build his network and get where he was. He was pissed, but he wasn't out of moves yet.
In fact, Mr. Lee had someone backing him.
