Chapter 217 Malicious Thoughts
Hearing the coach's praise, Charles stayed cool. Running under ten seconds? Piece of cake for him.
He'd held back on purpose and still clocked a 10.02. Imagine if he really pushed it.
What if some crazy scientist found out Charles had superhuman abilities and tried to nab him for experiments? So, he had to keep it low-key. A true master never shows all his cards—that was just being smart.
"Charles won! He actually took first place in the sprint with a 10.02-second time?" Alice was floored.
She knew Charles spoke five languages—English, French, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese—and that he was loaded, thanks to his other identity as the ultra-rich patron, Mr. Smoke.
But beyond that, she hadn't dug much deeper. Even that was impressive enough—five languages! This gave Alice plenty to chat about with Charles, as she also spoke those languages. Sometimes, their language games made her feel a special bond with him.
But now, she realized Charles's awesomeness went way beyond that. He was a pro-level athlete in track and field, casually snagging first place in a competition!
A 10.02-second time could theoretically get him on the national team! Even though Alice wasn't into sports, she knew this was a big deal.
"Alice, did you just find out today that Charles is great at sprinting? You didn't know before?" Snow asked, curious.
"Yeah, Charles was my high school classmate. Honestly, it's kinda embarrassing, but we were in the same class for three years, and I never really noticed him. He was always super low-key. It wasn't until our last class reunion that I found out how amazing he is. Not only does he come from a distinguished family, but he's also generous, responsible, and fluent in five languages. He's helped my family a lot, and I've always been really grateful to him!" Alice said, full of admiration.
"Charles is fluent in five languages?" Snow was stunned again! She seemed to uncover another hidden talent of Charles. The more she learned, the more incredible he seemed!
"Yeah, you went to the same college as Charles. Didn't you know about his language skills?" Alice asked.
"I really didn't. I've only known Charles for less than half a month. But he's already famous at our school. He's great at sprinting, even better at basketball, and he's an exceptional pianist. People online even call him the Piano Prince!" Snow explained.
"Really?" Alice was even more surprised.
Just like how Snow didn't know Charles spoke five languages at first, when the two girls started talking, they discovered even more of Charles's hidden talents.
Charles was incredibly talented!
And since these two girls were both very detail-oriented, through this conversation, Snow learned that Alice and Charles were high school classmates, but they hadn't gotten close until a recent class reunion brought them together.
Alice seemed to have a thing for Charles. I mean, who wouldn't? The guy was practically perfect. But they'd only just reconnected, so it was not like they were a thing yet.
Snow smiled.
Alice smiled back. Through their chat, she found out that Charles and Snow had known each other for less than half a month. What kind of deep feelings could they develop in just two weeks?
Snow was the top Campus Princess at Lacus Magnus University. If Charles were really a player, how could he have gone three years in college without hitting on such a top-tier beauty?
So, Charles hadn't lied to her. He really was just there for business that day. Alice's doubts melted away.
She realized she didn't know this guy at all. His awesomeness was beyond her wildest dreams.
Alice: Favorability +1
Current Favorability: 99 points.
'Simp target number six, Alice, favorability has broken through 99 points, reward: 10 enhancement points.'
Snow: Favorability +1
Current Favorability: 96 points.
'Simp target number eight, Snow, favorability has broken through 96 points, reward: 10 enhancement points.'
'The host currently has 104 enhancement points remaining.'
Charles was totally confused to see that Snow and Alice's favorability had both gone up by one point. He turned around and saw Alice and Snow chatting and laughing, occasionally looking surprised.
It seemed unreal. Could they really be so chill about him flirting around? No way! He had no clue what they talked about that could've boosted their favorability.
This was too wild!
If either of them mentioned how much money Charles had spent on them, the vibe would definitely not be so friendly.
As the competition wrapped up, Charles got called to the podium.
The principal personally handed him the trophy and certificate. "Charles, congrats on winning first place in this sprint competition. You're now qualified for the state-level track and field championship!"
"Thanks, Principal!" Charles took the trophy and certificate with a calm face, not showing any over-the-top excitement.
"Leo, you did great too. Even though you came in second, your 10.09-second time is impressive. Keep it up!"
This time, the state-level championship was different. Each college only had one recommendation slot, and since Charles won first place, he got it. Even though Leo's performance was solid, he'd have to wait for another shot.
Leo was crushed! Watching Charles get the trophy and certificate felt like a knife to the heart. When he saw Alice holding Snow's hand and walking towards the podium, a nasty thought crossed his mind.
He decided he was going to expose Charles's dirty secrets right then and there. He wanted to destroy Charles's reputation completely.
