Chapter 033 Charles's No-Show
"Look! Isn't that the douche bag Charles from the campus forum?"
"Wow, it really is him. Douche bag, ugh!"
"I didn't see the campus forum, but someone posted his photo in our class group chat, saying they want to dox him!"
"I know this guy. He used to hang around the girls' dorm. No wonder he looks so familiar. Turns out he's not just a douche bag, but also a creepy peeping Tom!"
Charles had clearly underestimated the power of the campus forum.
He had no idea that so many girls would recognize him and point fingers at him as he walked by.
His photo had even been circulated in various class group chats.
In the age of information, good news travels slowly, but bad news spreads like wildfire.
Especially with someone intentionally smearing his name.
Charles had almost become a public enemy just like that.
He had initially thought about trying his luck to find a few new romantic interests today.
But now, those girls treated him like the plague, avoiding him at all costs.
How was he supposed to make any progress?
Online bullying is no less harmful than real-life bullying.
Suddenly, his phone rang; it was a call from Lisa.
Charles hesitated for a moment and answered.
"Hey, Charles, I heard about what happened on the campus forum. I didn't expect that bringing you breakfast would cause such a negative impact. But don't worry, no matter what others say or how they insult you, I won't leave you, because I know you're not what they say you are. I regret missing out on you before. Please give me another chance, okay?"
Lisa's voice was choked with emotion, and her tone was incredibly sincere.
Her words were humble and pleading, just like Charles had once been with her.
Hearing such sincere words, Charles's heart wavered for a moment.
He remembered when he first met Lisa, how wonderful she seemed.
His feelings for Lisa were not something that could be easily explained.
Maybe he had pursued Lisa initially just to forget Alice.
But he had to admit, there was a time when he really liked Lisa, and he loved her deeply.
Lisa's importance in his heart far exceeded that of Pamela, and even Prom Queen Jessica.
He had once hoped that Lisa could truly love him.
But now... everything was irreparable.
He would never forget the day they broke up.
Lisa had shown an ugly side and said such cruel things, trampling on his dignity!
And now, just because she found out Charles was rich, she wanted to rekindle their relationship.
When Charles had almost begged on his knees for her not to break up, did she give him even the slightest chance?
'Since you treated me like that back then, why should I be soft-hearted now?'
"Lisa, for the last time, I don't love you anymore. Please don't bother me again! Okay?"
Charles hung up the phone with a tone of extreme coldness.
"No! Charles, you can't do this to me!"
Lisa cried and called again.
Charles refused!
She called again.
Charles then simply turned off his phone.
"The number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later..."
Hearing the automated message, Lisa's phone slipped from her hand.
At that moment, she felt her heart ache like it was being pricked by needles.
It was as if all her strength had been drained.
"Why does my heart hurt so much?"
"It hurts so much!"
Lisa cried.
She cried hysterically.
In over twenty years, she had never felt such heart-wrenching pain.
She really had fallen in love with Charles!
"Why? Why can't you give me another chance?"
"I love you. I really love you!"
Lisa cried and screamed.
She sat alone on the street, crying desperately.
Her despair was heart-wrenching.
After turning off his phone, Charles also felt a bit down.
This time, he had been truly decisive.
A man has to learn to grow up eventually.
He couldn't always be so soft-hearted.
Learning to say no was just a way to protect himself from getting hurt!
But still, he felt a bit empty inside.
Charles went into a restaurant, ordered a dozen dishes, and ate heartily.
Sometimes, you can fill the emptiness inside by stuffing your stomach.
Charles drank two bottles of California Table Wine.
Then he drunkenly staggered back to his dorm.
Once in his dorm, he fell asleep immediately.
No matter what chaos was happening outside, he decided to sleep it off.
But Charles seemed to have forgotten he still had some things to do today.
For example, Pamela had invited him to her place for a home-cooked meal tonight.
And Jessica had a very important live-streaming event tonight and needed the support of the Ultra-rich Patron 'LonelySmoke'.
Charles, in his drunken state, had turned off his phone.
Naturally, he missed both appointments!
...
At 8 PM, Jessica started her live stream.
By 10 PM, the viewership was still dismal.
"Jessica, have you heard from Charles? It's been two hours, and he still hasn't shown up?" Sarah asked anxiously.
Without Charles, there were no generous gifts or donations.
They couldn't make it to the hourly rankings.
Jessica had been live for two hours, and her stream only had about two thousand viewers, a far cry from the three hundred thousand she had a few days ago!
The sales from her live-streamed products weren't looking good either.
"I talked to him this morning. He agreed. How was I supposed to know he'd bail on me?"
Jessica was almost fuming.
As a Prom Queen, whenever she asked those boys to do something, they would jump to do it for her.
Tonight's live stream was for a major advertising client.
It all depended on the live stream's performance and sales.
This would affect her personal traffic evaluation and future potential.
To ensure this, she had personally delivered breakfast to Charles this morning and even gifted him an iPhone as a gesture.
But Charles had bailed!
Unbelievable!
"Maybe Charles had some urgent matters to attend to and couldn't get to me. His phone is off, and he's not responding on Facebook. He must have something important going on!"
Jessica tried to make an excuse for Charles.
"What could be so important that he breaks his promise?
"And Jessica, did you know that LonelySmoke is trending again? This guy sent over twelve thousand Super Rockets to the Shark Live streamer Sherry this morning. That's over twelve thousand Super Rockets! A total of 3.8 million dollars! He had time to spend millions on a Shark Live streamer this morning but can't show up for you tonight! He clearly doesn't care about you!"
Hearing Sarah's words, Jessica quickly took out another phone and opened the trending topics on Twitter.
Sure enough.
"Shark Live's Top Ultra-rich Patron LonelySmoke" was the fifth trending topic.
Clicking on it, she saw screenshots of the rockets.
There were also screenshots of Sherry's live stream, which had over 4 billion views.
"Damn it, this is over the line!"
Jessica was furious.
As a Prom Queen, she had never been ignored by a guy like this.
She thought Charles had fallen for her.
She thought she could play him as she wished.
But who knew...
