Chapter 120 What a Gem
"Alright!" Charles nodded and accepted Jessica's invite without a second thought.
He waved goodbye and strolled out of Villa No. 1.
About five minutes later, Charles reached his Ferrari LaFerrari parked by the curb.
Just then, Mike drove by in his Ferrari 488.
"Charles, still here? Need a lift back to school? It's on my way!" Mike grinned, seemingly sincere, but he was really just showing off his ride.
'So what if you're a piano prodigy? You're still a nobody!' Mike thought.
"Thanks, but I'm good." Charles waved and smiled politely.
Mike thought Charles's smile looked forced. ‘Finally realizing the gap, huh? Facing reality? In this world, talent doesn't always shine. Money is real power. No matter how talented you are, Charles, it'll take you at least ten years to reach my level. But how many decades do we have in life?'
"Mike, can I get a ride back to school? It's on your way too!"
Just as Charles declined, a girl ran up, asking to hop in Mike's car.
"Sure, Cheryl, hop in!"
She was pretty, about 5'5", with a cute face. A solid 7.5 in looks.
"I'm so jealous, Cheryl gets to ride in Mike's sports car. If I'd known, I'd have been more proactive!" another girl said enviously.
"Yeah, Mike's handsome and rich, already a general manager. Even if his piano skills aren't as good as Charles's, overall, he's way better. Jessica's being irrational!"
"Hey! Look, there's an even more impressive LaFerrari next to it. I heard it's about five times more expensive than Mike's Ferrari 488!"
"Wouldn't that be around three million dollars?"
As the group chatted, some even pulling out their phones to snap pics, Charles pulled out a key from his pocket and pressed it.
The LaFerrari's lights flashed twice. Charles opened the door and got in, calm as ever, like no one else was around.
Everyone was shocked into stunned silence!
Everyone exchanged dumbfounded looks, especially Mike, whose proud expression turned to shock at the sight of the LaFerrari.
Cheryl was completely stunned too!
No one expected this LaFerrari to belong to Charles.
"Charles drives a LaFerrari? Now I get why Jessica's into him. Turns out he's a super rich kid!"
"Yeah, I had my suspicions back at the villa. How could a regular kid get such high-level piano skills? Even if he's a genius, without a famous teacher and lots of practice, it's impossible. Think about it, how much does a lesson with a famous teacher cost?"
"Damn, why didn't you say so earlier?!"
"I was afraid you wouldn't believe me!"
Charles ignored the stunned crowd and drove out of the seaside villa community when Alice's call came in.
He answered via Bluetooth.
"Hey, Charles! Are you free tomorrow?" Alice asked.
"Huh? What's up?"
"I heard 'Black Hawk Down' is out, and I wanted to invite you to see it tomorrow!"
"Uh??"
"This is my first time inviting you to a movie. You wouldn't turn me down, would you?"
"I..."
Charles was caught off guard. He had already agreed to see a movie with Jessica tomorrow. And now Alice wanted to go for a movie too? What were the odds? Plus, it was Alice's first time asking him out.
He really didn't want to say no.
And Pamela had also invited him earlier.
'Are movies just really good lately? Or is it because theaters have been closed for almost a year and are now reopening, so everyone's eager?' he wondered.
"Alright, since it's you, Alice, I can't refuse. But I might be a bit busy tomorrow, so I might not have much time..."
"No problem! If you're busy, we can catch the 9 p.m. show. You won't still be busy at 9 p.m., right?" Alice seemed very understanding.
Charles couldn't find any more excuses. Watching two movies in one day was doable. One during the day, one at night. Since Alice booked the evening show, he could watch the daytime show with Jessica and avoid the same theater to prevent running into each other.
"Alright, tomorrow at 9 PM, see you there!"
"Okay!" Alice then hung up.
Charles noticed Snow trying to hail a cab by the roadside. He drove over and stopped in front of her.
"Snow, need a ride? I'm heading back to school," he offered.
Snow looked at Charles's LaFerrari, a hint of surprise in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure and stayed indifferent.
"No need, Charles. I'll take a cab."
"Alright then." Charles nodded and didn't insist.
He just thought it might be unsafe for a girl to take a cab alone at night. Since she didn't want to get in, he wouldn't force it.
As Charles drove about twenty meters ahead, he noticed in the rearview mirror a group of five or six men approaching Snow with bad intentions.
"Boss, this chick is hot! I've never seen such a stunner!"
"Look at that face, that waist, those legs. She's a knockout!"
The group of men laughed lewdly.
The leader, also stunned by Snow's beauty, felt a surge of desire.
"Let's get her!" He led his gang towards Snow.
"Hey beautiful, all alone? It's dangerous out here at night. Aren't you afraid of running into thugs? How about we be your bodyguards?"
Snow ignored them and tried to leave, but the men immediately surrounded her.
