Chapter 124 Why Do You Want a Girlfriend

"Sorry, I didn't bring my phone!" Charles said, looking at the Facebook notification on his phone.

April was stunned, seeing the phone in Charles's hand, and felt like cursing.

"Alright, I get it!" April got out of the car, looking grim.

"April, what are you doing...?" Daniel saw her getting out of Charles's car, his mind blank. It felt like a lightning strike; he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

'Charles has been my bro for over a decade. We shared chips and read the same book. And now he's involved with the girl I like? Unacceptable!' his mind screamed.

Daniel's face turned pale. 'Wait a minute! Charles isn't that kind of guy. He rarely comes to Lindell Academy and shouldn't know April. Plus, he just got here less than ten minutes ago. How could he have gotten involved with her? And April doesn't look happy. She was probably kicked out of the car, meaning she likely approached Charles first.'

Daniel thought it over, realizing things weren't as they seemed. 'April probably made the first move on Charles. I didn't expect this seemingly innocent girl to be a gold digger, seeing a luxury car and wanting in.'

"Daniel, get in the car!" Charles honked and shouted.

Daniel glanced at April, feeling lost, and got into the passenger seat.

April was shocked.

"Daniel, you know each other?" she said awkwardly, covering her face.

Though embarrassed, she saw Daniel in a new light. 'This low-key guy at school actually knows someone who drives a LaFerrari?'

Her opinion of Daniel instantly improved. 'If I had known, I wouldn't have turned down his movie invite today!'

On the way, Daniel felt like crying. Charles didn't explain much, and it seemed he didn't need to.

"Charles, is society really this materialistic? Without a luxury car and a mansion, are you not worthy of love?" Daniel moaned.

"Not necessarily. Even with a luxury car and a mansion, it doesn't mean you'll have love."

"I just want a girlfriend. Why is it so hard?"

"Why do you want a girlfriend? Let me break it down. If you have a girlfriend, you have to take her out to eat and watch movies, right? You have to go shopping and buy clothes with her, right? You have to put up with her mood swings every month, right? And you have to buy her gifts on holidays. Not to mention the money, why give yourself so much trouble? Wouldn't it be better to spend that money on a steak for yourself and be more relaxed?"

Charles's analysis made Daniel feel it was very reasonable.

"Wait a minute, you tell me not to get a girlfriend, but why do you flirt with so many girls?"

"I don't. It's the girls who flirt with me. I don't want a girlfriend at all, but some girls just covet my looks..."

Daniel rolled his eyes, realizing Charles was just showing off!

At the cinema, Charles noticed the movie Daniel picked was "Black Hawk Down."

'I don't get why this movie is so popular. Seeing everyone else in pairs, Daniel and I, two grown men, probably look odd to the ticket lady. She will probably think we're a couple.'

"Why don't handsome guys like girls these days?" the ticket lady sighed.

Charles wasn't too worked up as he was watching a movie with a buddy. He was relaxed and casual. The movie was really good, with big scenes, a big production, tear-jerking moments, and humor. The two hours flew by.

When he checked the time, it was already past four in the afternoon!

"Daniel, you'll have to head back on your own. I gotta go; I have plans!" Charles said, getting ready to leave.

"Alright, you go ahead!" Daniel nodded, not making a big deal of it.

"Oh, Daniel, around 7:30 or 8:00, give me a call. Just go along with whatever I say on the phone!"

Charles had a sudden idea and prepared in advance. He needed an excuse to leave Jessica early, and Daniel's call would be perfect. He could say his best friend was heartbroken and needed company, then go see Alice. It was the perfect excuse.

"Charles, what are you up to later?" Daniel asked.

"Just help me out and call me at that time!"

"Alright!" Daniel nodded.

'Charles comes all the way to watch a movie with me. The least I can do is make a call at the right time,' he thought.

Charles gave a few more instructions, then rushed to the next cinema. Luckily, he had a car; otherwise, the back and forth would be exhausting. He arrived at AMC Theatres around 5:00.

Jessica had been waiting for over ten minutes. For this date, she spent two hours on applying the perfect makeup, not too heavy, not too plain. The most natural, elegant look was the hardest to perfect.

When Charles saw Jessica, she had her hair in a simple and clean ponytail. Her delicate makeup and black tight-fitting dress highlighted her stunning figure. She was incredibly beautiful! Many guys passing by had a return rate of over ninety percent. If most weren't already with their girlfriends, many would've approached her.

'Who is the jerk making such a beautiful girl wait?' many guys wondered.

"What are you looking at? If you keep staring, I'll gouge your eyes out. Can't move when you see someone pretty?" a girl scolded her boyfriend.
