Chapter 025: Finally, I Can Show Off My Skills
The VIP group messages were closed.
It was already noon.
Charles went to the cafeteria with his roommates Jesse, Robert, and Tom.
The school cafeteria's lunch was very cheap, just a few dollars per meal.
Who would believe that the wealthy Mr. Smoke, who just had spent over ten thousand dollars on the streaming platform, would be eating a few-dollar cafeteria lunch, not even willing to order a meat dish?
"Rachel, what should I do now? Charles seems unwilling to talk to me."
Lisa said, clutching her phone, which had gone unanswered for hours, her expression gloomy.
"Lisa, what's wrong with you lately? Didn't Charles always listen to you before? How come you lost confidence after finding that he has money? You can't be like this. You need to understand that men are naturally cheap. The more you spoil him, the more he ignores you. It would help if you treat him the same way you used to. If he doesn't talk to you, you can also ignore him!"
Rachel suggested.
"But this method doesn't work anymore. Charles is now being watched by several bitches, like Pamela from the Art Department and Jessica from the Student Council. If I continue to treat him coldly and warmly like before, he might just be taken away by those two bitches!"
Lisa shook her head in frustration.
Times had changed.
Charles used to pursue her only.
Now, there were two competitors, and their looks and figures were not worse than hers.
She had previously insulted Charles and said many harsh words.
If she continues as before, Charles definitely won't keep trying to please her.
"That makes sense. We’re not the only ones who know he’s rich. We can’t look at him the same way as before.
"But Lisa, you also have one advantage.
"You need to remember that Charles pursued you for three years without giving up, which means you hold a special place in his heart.
"Men have a thing for their first love, and you are his first love. No other woman can compare to that.
"So, I guess Charles is cold to you because he wants to vent his frustration. After all, you used to treat him this way.
"Once he calmed down, he might forgive you.
"Your chance will come at that time."
Rachel analyzed rationally.
Lisa thought it made a lot of sense.
If she switched roles with Charles, she would probably have a temper and want to vent, too.
Putting herself in his shoes, she could understand why Charles wasn't replying to her messages!
"I understand, Rachel. To win Charles back, I need to let him cool off first. I won't give up!"
"Go for it, Lisa! You can do it!"
Rachel cheered her on with a fist pump, looking supportive on the surface but feeling very disdainful inside.
'Lisa, you looked down on him before, treating him like a hick.
'Now that you know he's rich, you start remembering his good points?
'Are you trying to win him back?
'What kind of fairy tale are you dreaming of?
'But if Lisa has no chance, do I have a chance?
'However, directly chatting with Charles might seem too two-faced.'
Luckily, Charles' s roommate, Robert, is pursuing her.
She could use this connection.
······
After lunch, Jesse, Robert, and Tom dragged Charles to the Internet café to play games.
He didn't want to play, but he couldn't resist the crowd.
Since there were no classes in the afternoon and they had no other activities to entertain themselves, besides sleeping in the dorm and reading novels, most university students went to the Internet café to play games.
"Do you have four connected computers?" Jesse asked as soon as he walked into the Internet café.
"Yes, business has been bad lately, so there are plenty of connected computers!"
The girl at the cashier's desk smiled and replied, looking quite pretty.
"Pamela, why are you here? Are you working part-time as an Internet café attendant?" Charles asked.
Charles asked in surprise when he saw one of the two girls sitting at the register was Pamela.
"I'm not an attendant. My family owns this Internet café. Didn't you know, Charles?"
Pamela was excited.
She didn't expect to run into Charles at the Internet café.
Her family owned seventeen Internet cafés, and due to the pandemic, business hadn't recovered.
The Internet café had six or seven employees who hadn't been paid for three or four months!
And the rent was due soon.
Internet café rent was usually paid annually. This café was near the school, in a prime location, with an annual rent of thirty thousand dollars.
Pamela was here today to pay the employees and the rent.
The 800,000 dollars Charles lent her was enough to keep her family's Internet cafés running and pay off the loans!
"I really didn't know your family was so wealthy, owning Internet cafés!"
Charles marveled.
This Internet café had nearly two hundred high-spec computers. With the décor and rent, it probably cost at least three hundred thousand dollars to set up.
"Holy crap, I remember 'GameGate Cafe' is a chain with over a dozen stores. Is the entire GameGate Cafe yours?" Tom looked at Pamela in shock.
"Yes, but business is terrible now. We're almost bankrupt!"
Pamela admitted openly.
She glanced at Charles intentionally.
Without Charles' help, her family would have been bankrupt!
"Wow! Pamela, you're actually a rich second generation?" Robert exclaimed.
"There used to be many rumors about you in school, saying you were a gold digger. But now it seems they were just jealous!" Jesse smiled at Charles.
It seems to say that this guy's romantic encounters were a bit too many.
"They weren't wrong. I am a gold digger. Don't think you get free passes just because we know each other, hmph! Except for Charles, he can always surf for free at my family's Internet cafés!"
Pamela joked.
She naturally defused an awkward topic and made Charles feel respected.
Her emotional intelligence was really high.
"Damn, Charles, why don't you just accept her!"
"I can't take it, I'm going to puke!"
"Damn it, why don't any girls chase after me? Am I not handsome enough?" Tom complained jealously.
His roommates were increasingly puzzled.
Why did Charles suddenly become so attractive to girls?
It didn't make sense.
In the dorm, Tom was always the one good at picking up girls. He was charming, good-looking, and funny. Over three years in college, he had dated seven or eight girls.
Of course, he had low standards for girls.
It was fine as long as they were somewhat attractibe. They don’t have to be top-tier girls.
But now, the three girls pursuing Charles all seem to be high-caliber, each one more beautiful than the last.
This defied logic!
"Let's get five connected computers. Rachel is coming over later!" Robert suddenly said.
"Who, Rachel? Isn't she Lisa's roommate? When did you start messing around with her?"
"I've actually been pursuing her for a few months. I feel she has a good impression on me. Just now, I told her our roommates were going to the Internet café to play games, and she considerately said she could support me. Perfect for a five-person game, haha, finally a chance to show off my skills in front of a girl!"
Robert rubbed his hands excitedly.
