Chapter 035: It's All a Setup

"Jessica, who is calling you so early in the morning? Can't they let us sleep?" Her best friend Sarah complained with a face full of annoyance.

"It's Charles. He wants to meet me at the school gate at 9:30 to explain why he stood me up yesterday," Jessica reported truthfully.

"Who? Charles? That guy finally decided to show up. Jessica, you can't let this thing slide easily. Otherwise, he'll think he can do whatever he wants. You need to make him understand that there's a serious consequence for offending a woman, especially when he offended our Prom Queen. It's unforgivable!" Sarah gritted her teeth, looking like she was ready for battle.

"So what should I do?" Jessica asked.

"It's simple. He wants to meet at 9:30, right? Then you show up at 10:30 or even 11:30, make him wait for hours and see how sincere his apology really is!" Sarah suggested mischievously.

Jessica nodded in agreement. "Alright, I will do that. Since he stood me up yesterday, today I'll be two hours late on purpose. He needs to know I'm not someone to be messed with!" Jessica said angrily.

With that, she started doing her makeup.

Before she knew it, it was already 9:30.

Charles had just woken up from another nap and started washing his face and brushing his teeth. He casually sent Jessica a message.

"Jessica, beautiful girl, I'm already at the school gate. When will you be here?"

Jessica quickly replied, "Almost there, I'll be there soon!"

Seeing the message, Charles smirked knowingly. He had stood Jessica up yesterday. No way she wouldn't be late today.

When he was pursuing Lisa, she would often be late for no reason. If she was in a good mood, it was fine, but if not, making him wait for two or three hours was nothing.

Charles had gotten used to it.

He knew this game all too well.

He washed his face, brushed his teeth, even washed his hair, then dried it, changed clothes, put on shoes, and looked in the mirror for ten minutes.

Still as handsome as ever.

He checked his phone; it was already 10:00 AM.

Charles sent Jessica another message.

"Ms. Lewis, why aren't you here yet? I've been waiting for half an hour."

"Almost there, I'll be there soon!" He received another similar reply.

Charles chuckled. "Yeah, right."

He leisurely walked downstairs and headed to a Chinese snack shop behind the school.

He ordered two bowls of hot dry noodles, two cups of soy milk, two eggs, and a basket of soup dumplings.

Lately, he had a big appetite.

He could eat three people's worth of breakfast.

Charles enjoyed his meal while continuing sending Jessica messages.

"Boss Jessica, I've been waiting for almost an hour. Why aren't you here yet?"

"I know it was my fault yesterday, but you can't be this late. I have something really important to discuss with you today!"

He sent two messages in a row, pretending to be impatient.

"Sarah, Charles has been waiting for almost an hour. I think he has learned his lesson. We shouldn't be too harsh. I'll head out now; it takes about twenty minutes to get to the school gate," Jessica said.

"No way, just an hour and he's already impatient. Don't spoil him. Men like him need a deep lesson. Otherwise, he'll stand you up again. You're the Prom Queen; plenty of guys want to date you. Charles may have money, but that doesn't mean he can do whatever he wants. He needs to know you're different from other girls. He has to show genuine sincerity!" Sarah brainwashed Jessica immediately.

"Alright then, I'll make him wait another hour. I want to see if he really cares about me. If he does, he shouldn't mind waiting a couple more hours." Jessica nodded in agreement.

On the other side, Charles finished his meal.

A few minutes later, he received another message from Jessica.

"This time I'm really almost there. Just wait a bit longer!"

Seeing the message, Charles chuckled and walked into a internet cafe nearby.

He logged into his League of Legends account.

Given Jessica's past behavior, he'd have at least another half hour to spare. Why not play a game?

If Jessica arrived first and didn't see him, he could always make an excuse that he had gone to the back street for breakfast after waiting an hour and a half.

Prom Queen? Just a 'doormat' to him.

Just as Charles logged into the game, an unknown number called.

Charles answered.

"Hello, is this Mr. Smoke? I'm Jimmy Cox, Mr. Thomas's driver. I'm near Lacus Magnus University according to the location you sent. When will you arrive?"

"Jimmy, park the car by the school gate. I'll be there in about forty minutes to an hour."

"Okay, Mr. Smoke. My license plate is SEA 3234."

Jimmy Cox parked the Rolls-Royce Phantom by the school gate.

Mr. Thomas had instructed that Mr. Smoke was a very important client with a powerful background. No matter the request, it had to be fulfilled with utmost respect.

Even if it meant waiting half a day, he had to obey.

Charles hung up and started his game as a top-lane Malphite.

The start of the game was tough, but later in the game, Malphite played a crucial role. In the final team fight, he defeated all five enemies and instantly killed the enemy ADC, allowing his team to secure victory.

The game lasted over forty minutes.

'Perfect timing,' Charles thought, pulling out his phone to message Jessica.

[Jessica, I've been waiting forever. When will you get here?]

[Almost there, I'm on my way!]

If Charles had really waited two hours at the school gate, he might have been furious.

But now, he was not angry at all.

He logged out and shut down the computer.

Charles headed to the meeting spot.

When he arrived at the school gate, he didn't see Jessica but spotted two familiar faces: Leo and Emily.

They seemed to have reconciled.

"Leo, look at that car, a Rolls-Royce Phantom! It's worth over one hundred thousand dollars!" Emily exclaimed, taking out her phone to snap pictures.

"So what? People who drive those are usually chauffeurs. The real boss sits in the back," Leo said, a bit jealous.

"Yeah, I wonder what kind of rich person can afford that car," Emily said, taking photos.

Just then, Leo noticed someone he really disliked approaching.

It was none other than that jerk Charles?
