Chapter 108 Lost Everything
"Charles, is that you?" Lisa stammered.
Charles didn't even slow down. He drove straight to the parking lot like he hadn't seen her at all.
"Rachel, did I just imagine that? Was that really Charles in a Ferrari LaFerrari? A $3.4 million supercar?" Lisa was in shock, her face a picture of disbelief.
She had decided to forget about Charles, even blocking him on Facebook to cut ties completely. But just when she thought she was done with him, he showed up like this, flaunting his success.
"Lisa, you didn't imagine it. That was Charles!" Rachel said, suddenly suspicious. "Could he have been lying to us? Maybe he was testing you?"
Lisa took a step back, almost losing her balance and stumbling. Her face went pale. "Did Charles lie to me? Is Mr. Smoke real?" she wondered.
"Not necessarily," Rachel replied. "Maybe he rented the car to show off. But that doesn't make sense. He didn't know where we'd be today. How could he plan this? It must be a coincidence."
Rachel's rational analysis made sense. Given how things ended between Charles and Lisa, it didn't seem like he'd go to such lengths to show off. Plus, he didn't even stop to look at her, which supported Lisa's thoughts.
"Rachel, did I miss something? At the karaoke bar, did Charles really want to make up with me? Why did I say those things?" Lisa regretted her words immediately.
Seeing Charles in that Ferrari was more shocking than finding out he was Mr. Smoke. Tipping streamers with virtual currency didn't mean much to Lisa, who rarely watched streams. But seeing Charles in a $3.4 million car was real and undeniable.
As Lisa spoke, she began to resent Rachel. If it weren't for Rachel constantly badmouthing Charles, Lisa might not have broken up with him so quickly or said such harsh things. A few days ago, Rachel's influence had stopped her from following Charles out of the karaoke bar. If it weren't for Rachel, maybe she'd be sitting in that Ferrari now!
The more Lisa thought about it, the more she regretted everything.
"Rachel, why did you have to ask Charles about his identity that day? Why did you do that? I worked so hard to get that chance, but because you asked, I misunderstood Charles even more. No matter how I explain now, it won't clear things up!" Lisa said, her voice tinged with panic and irrationality.
Rachel's anger flared. She had always considered Lisa a fake friend.
'And now you're blaming me for what I did?' Rachel thought, frozen in disbelief.
She said, "Lisa, don't make it sound so bad. I've always tolerated you and given you advice because I considered you a sister. Now you're blaming me for your stupidity? Aren't you being too self-centered? Do you think all men should revolve around you?"
"Rachel, you..."
"Can't I say it? You're stupid, and who can you blame? You, a two-faced girl, trying to hook a rich guy and making me seduce Robert. Why didn't you do it yourself? To be honest, I tried to get Charles out that day not for you, but for myself. I like Charles too. Why can't I find out his identity? Does Charles have your name written on him? Why can't I compete fairly? Just because you like something, does that mean it's yours? You self-centered bitch!"
Rachel's words had been bottled up for a long time. At this moment, she finally exploded. She didn't want to hide it anymore. When she was with Lisa, almost 80 percent of the guys focused on Lisa. It had been bothering her for a long time! She had tolerated her again and again, but now she couldn't take it anymore. She decided to lay everything out. From now on, she would compete openly for Charles. She would not sneak around anymore or fear being discovered.
These words were a devastating blow to Lisa. She was stunned, in disbelief! She had genuinely considered Rachel a close friend. That was why she was willing to share everything with Rachel. Many times, in Lisa's mind, sisterhood was more reliable than boyfriends. Backup options and simps could be replaced often, but close friends were few. But she never expected that Rachel had long harbored so much resentment towards her. It was unacceptable that she even wanted to seduce Charles, which was a blatant betrayal!
"Rachel, what did I ever do to you? I treated you as a close friend, but you secretly wanted to steal the man that I liked?" Lisa cursed angrily.
"Steal your man? Lisa, please have some self-awareness. Charles has already broken up with you. He's not your boyfriend anymore. Why can't I compete fairly?"
"You..." Lisa was about to explode with anger.
"Rachel, from now on, we're done!" After ten seconds of silence, Lisa decisively said. Then she turned around and cried out!
At this moment, she finally recalled all the care and attention Charles had given her over the past three years. It was only because Rachel often gossiped behind his back, occasionally instilling money-centric ideas, which caused her to overlook Charles's goodness. For this so-called fake friend, she lost everything.
