Chapter 236 A Total of Five Illnesses
In the medical room, a middle-aged guy in his forties had been waiting forever.
His name was Alistair Blaze, a taxi driver, and he looked pretty pissed off.
Being sick was bad enough, but now he had to sit in this dingy medical room to be examined by some intern doctor for a medical license test.
If Dr. Hall hadn't promised to cut his medical fees in half if he went along with this, he wouldn't have bothered!
The vibe was kinda tense.
"Charles, you can start the exam now! This patient has three conditions. You can ask him questions, check out his physical traits, and use any medical equipment you need. But you gotta figure out his illnesses within thirty minutes and come up with a solid treatment plan!" Dr. Reed explained in detail.
"Got it!" Charles nodded.
"Sir, your name's Alistair, right? What do you do for a living?" Charles asked, trying to be friendly.
"I'm a taxi driver, been at it for ten years!"
"Okay, do you usually feel any discomfort?"
"I feel crappy all over. My kidneys hurt, my stomach hurts, sometimes my heart feels weird, I can't sleep at night, and I get dizzy!"
"Let me do some quick checks first!" Charles looked at the patient's tongue and pressed on some key spots. He didn't even use a stethoscope, which seemed kinda sketchy.
After about ten minutes, Charles got a handle on the driver's condition. He thought, 'A cheap trick. Do they really think I would fall for that? He clearly has five issues, but they said three. They're trying to mess me up on purpose, sneaky.'
But outside the room, three expert professors were already smiling and chatting. Dr. Reed said, "This young guy Charles seems to have a real knack for medicine. The previous exam had some tough questions, and he nailed it. Some of his answers even surprised us!"
"Yeah, but book smarts are one thing, real-life is another. We said Alistair has three conditions, but he actually has four. Let's see if Charles can figure it out despite the curveball!" Leander said. This sneaky idea was his. He suggested it to help Thaddeus while giving Mr. Kim some respect and to make the test harder.
But after meeting Charles, they found him to be humble, polite, and really skilled, not the jerk Thaddeus described!
Now they were second-guessing if they should've made things so tough for Charles.
"Don't sweat it. If Charles is really good, he should be able to diagnose correctly even if we throw him off. A real doctor shouldn't lose his cool because of some misleading info!" Dr. Hall said.
Just then, Charles walked out of the medical room, and a crowd instantly surrounded him.
Besides the three medical experts, there were Thaddeus, Leonardo, Dashiell, Roxy, Alice, Jessica, Snow, Lori, Nancy, and a bunch of others.
Charles felt a bit overwhelmed.
Why were all these women here?
Charles couldn't figure it out! Also, he had no clue what kind of chat Alice and the others had while he was treating Roxy with acupuncture.
"Charles, do you have the diagnosis results?" Dr. Reed asked.
"Yeah, I got the results, but you guys clearly set me up! You said this patient has three conditions, but he actually has five, right?" As soon as he said this, the three experts were stunned.
Wasn't it four conditions?
How did he find five?
Could it be that Alistair had another condition they missed?
No way!
They had already done a thorough check on Alistair.
The condition that three experts couldn't find was discovered by Charles!
Mr. Evans smiled awkwardly, "Since you say this patient has five conditions, please list them and provide a reasonable treatment plan!"
"That's easy. Alistair has diabetes, coronary heart disease, liver cirrhosis, a duodenal ulcer, and AIDS!"
As soon as Charles said this, everyone was floored. They didn't expect this seemingly just a bit worn-out middle-aged man to have so many serious conditions, and even AIDS, an incurable disease.
"Does he have AIDS?" Dr. Hall asked, looking puzzled.
"Dr. Hall, don't you know?" Charles shot back.
"We did a blood test on him, but the report hasn't come out yet!"
Just as Dr. Hall finished speaking, his phone rang. He picked it up, and the voice on the other end said, "Dr. Hall, the blood test report for the patient you brought in earlier is out. It's positive; he might have AIDS!"
The voice wasn't loud, but many people heard it clearly!
Really five conditions?
"Obviously, the reason Alistair has so many conditions is related to his messed-up immune system. If the immune system isn't fixed, with his current state, he probably won't last more than three years. But luckily, I have a way to cure him!" Charles said casually. However, he had no idea what kind of storm his words would cause.
AIDS could be treated?
It had been around for over thirty years and was considered one of the top ten incurable diseases globally. No doctor had been able to cure it, yet Charles said he could treat it? That was definitely a joke.
If it could really be cured, it would definitely shock the world!
