"Charles, you probably don't get how serious this is. According to the law, anyone practicing medicine without a license can get up to three years in prison, detention, or control, and a fine. If it seriously harms the patient's health, it's three to ten years in prison and a fine. If it causes death, it's more than ten years in prison and a fine."
"Do you really think one phone call couldn't land you in jail and hit you with a massive fine?" Thaddeus threatened.
Most students would be scared stiff by this, but not Charles. He shot back, "Dr. Kim, right? If you wanna call the cops, go ahead. If not, then get lost. I don't have time for your nonsense. People should be more humble and not go around flaunting their presence. It's really shameless of you!"
Sure, he was practicing medicine without a license, but he wasn't charging anyone. As long as he didn't charge, it was a minor offense. Plus, Roxy didn't show any symptoms.
Worst case, he'd have to pay a fine, which was no big deal for Charles. The fine might even be covered by the Special Funds account. He almost wished they would fine him more.
"You said it. Don't say I didn't warn you!" Thaddeus snapped. He whipped out his phone and made a call. "Hello! Is this the Department of Health? I want to report someone practicing medicine illegally. Please send someone to investigate immediately. The address is the medical office at Lacus Magnus University!"
Still not satisfied, Thaddeus also called the police and repeated his complaint.
Seeing Thaddeus actually call the cops, Roxy started to worry about Charles.
Even though she thought Charles practicing medicine without a license was sketchy, his skills were legit. Roxy had suffered from heart disease for years and had been to countless hospitals, but only with Charles did she feel real relief. His treatment was genuinely effective.
If the police really arrested Charles, a fine would be the least of his worries. The big issue was that he might not treat her anymore! Roxy couldn't stand the thought!
"What is wrong with you? Charles was just giving me a massage. How is that practicing medicine without a license? What proof do you have to slander him? Whether he's practicing without a license is for me to decide or report, not you. Why are you meddling in other people's business?" Roxy snapped.
"It's your business if you don't report him, but practicing medicine without a license is still illegal. This guy needs to be punished!" Thaddeus shot back.
Roxy was fuming.
Meanwhile, over at the Syeattel Police Department headquarters, a commendation ceremony had just wrapped up. Even the chief was grinning ear to ear after getting praise from the city leaders.
"Chief, what's got you so happy?"
"What else? Our Syeattel Police Department just scored big. A few days ago, we nabbed an internationally wanted criminal and busted a gang involved in kidnappings and extortion. We're the talk of the town now. Even the Mayor gave us a shoutout at the meeting today and praised our work!"
"Chief, it was just a fluke. We can't really take all the credit. When we got there, those criminals were already down for the count!" a police officer said, rubbing his forehead.
Caspian offered, "I've looked into it. You all deserve the praise. But the real hero here is the guy who caught the internationally wanted criminal. Nancy told me his name is Charles. He's a junior at Lacus Magnus University and he's got some serious skills. After talking with the city leaders, we've decided to award Charles the title of City Hero."
"We need to spread the word about heroes like him to promote positive vibes. Nowadays, people are getting more timid and selfish, always looking to back down when faced with problems. Even though our country is getting more prosperous, our moral values are slipping."
"As defenders of the law, we should also be promoters of the law. Charles's heroic deeds should be widely publicized! Send a team to invite Charles over. The state TV host wants to do an exclusive interview with him and boost the image of our Syeattel Police Department!"
"Got it, Chief. I'll send someone to invite Charles right away!" the officer replied.
After the meeting, Nancy led a convoy of police cars straight to the Lacus Magnus University campus. Before heading out, she sent Charles a message and confirmed he was in the medical office at the university.
