Chapter 232 The Door Opened

Just as the police car rolled onto the Lacus Magnus University campus, a Health Department vehicle was already parked at the school clinic.

A guy in his forties hopped out of the car and immediately spotted Thaddeus.

"Thaddeus! How's your father doing these days?" Dashiell Brooks greeted, trying to be polite.

Dashiell worked at the Syeattel Health Department as a section chief. It wasn't a top-tier position, but he had some serious clout.

He had connections with the Kim family and used to be a student of Thaddeus's father, who was not only the director of a big hospital but also the honorary vice president of a medical university.

"Dashiell, my dad's doing well. By the way, I need to report someone to you. This guy's practicing medicine without a license, has a terrible attitude, and seems to completely ignore national laws and regulations. You need to investigate and punish him!"

"Who is this jerk? Don't worry, Thaddeus. The Health Department is cracking down on unlicensed practitioners. These lawbreakers deceive patients for money and must be severely punished!" Dashiell said confidently.

"The person I want to report is him!" Thaddeus pointed.

Four or five Health Department investigators all turned their gaze towards Charles.

Seeing Charles, Dashiell paused for a moment. Judging by Charles' age, he should still be in college, right? Could such a young student really be practicing medicine without a license?

However, Thaddeus spoke so earnestly that it seemed likely such an incident had indeed occurred. So Dashiell stepped forward and asked, "What's your name?"

"Charles!"

"How old are you?"

"Twenty-one!"

"Are you still a student?"

"Yes, I'm a junior at Lacus Magnus University School of Arts!"

Dashiell and Charles exchanged questions and answers with a formal politeness typical of government interactions. Despite the courteous surface, Charles knew that people in government departments could be very cunning.

"So, you're a student at the School of Arts. Why are you practicing medicine without a license?" Dashiell continued to ask, his tone very calm, as if he were just chatting with Charles, without any hostility.

But Dashiell's question was very problematic. He asked Charles why he was practicing medicine without a license? Clearly, this was a verbal trap. He wanted Charles to admit to practicing medicine without a license!

As long as Charles admitted that he had been practicing medicine without a license, he would completely lose the initiative, and the severity of the violation would would then depend on how he defined it!

But Charles reacted quickly, and he immediately realized that Dashiell was setting a trap for him.

"Excuse me, Chief of the Health Department? I don't know why you believe what he says. Dr. Kim says I'm practicing medicine without a license, and you believe him. Shouldn't you investigate the truth first? Or are you biased because you know Dr. Kim? I get it, you must be trying to curry favor with Dr. Kim's father, right? I heard he is the director!" Charles put on a look of sudden realization.

Although Dashiell and Thaddeus had been whispering, Charles had heard them.

Charles had figured out that Dashiell was trying to suck up to Thaddeus's father, so he made sure to speak loudly. As a result, people began to give the Health Department folks some weird looks.

"Charles, don't start making stuff up or trying to change the subject. Yes, I know Dr. Kim, but I wouldn't let personal stuff get in the way of being fair. Whether you're practicing medicine without a license will be determined by my colleagues at the Health Department through proper investigation and evidence collection!" Dashiell defended himself.

Just then, a young guy in his twenties walked over with a notebook. "Chief, we've already looked into it. This student, Charles, has indeed been practicing medicine without a license! We have three pieces of evidence."

"First, when Roxy had a sudden heart attack, Charles shouted to the crowd, 'I'm a doctor.' This alone shows he was pretending to be a medical professional."

"Second, after helping Roxy, Charles offered to treat her further. Many students heard this, and their statements match up. The facts are clear, and the evidence is solid. So, it's determined that Charles engaged in unlicensed medical practice."

"Third, although Charles' treatment temporarily improved Roxy's condition, it doesn't rule out the possibility that it caused some hidden harm to her body. Therefore, I suggest Roxy go to the hospital for a thorough check-up. This is also to ensure her safety."

"Based on this evidence, it's clear that Charles has committed the illegal act of practicing medicine without a license." The young Health Department investigator laid it all out clearly. For a moment, Charles had no way to argue back.

"Well, Charles, is everything clear now? You've committed an illegal act. I suggest you come with me!" Dashiell said.

"I don't have time!" Charles shot back.

"What did you say? You don't have time? Are you kidding?"

Dashiell pushed, "Charles, you might not get how serious this is. You've broken the law. Please cooperate, and maybe you can get a lighter punishment!"

"I remember the Health Department doesn't have law enforcement authority, right? Why don't you call the police over?" Charles said calmly.

"No need, the police car is already here!" Thaddeus waved his hand.

In the distance, there were seven or eight police cars.

For a moment, the atmosphere got super tense, and everyone looked at Thaddeus in surprise. It seemed they hadn't expected he had such pull. With just one call, he got seven or eight police cars to show up.

Usually, for a small civil enforcement case, you'd get maybe one police car with a few officers! The reason for this big show was likely because Thaddeus had some serious connections. It seemed that Thaddeus's father, was indeed very powerful!

"Didn't you say the Health Department doesn't have law enforcement authority? Now the police are here, they have law enforcement authority, right?" Thaddeus said mockingly, feeling pretty smug.

At that moment, the door of the first police car opened.
