Chapter 179 As Long As You Like It
"This dude, I don't know who he is, but he got Mr. Nguyen to roll out the red carpet for him. And that chick with him? Total knockout!" Joshua Sanders, the young boss, mumbled to himself.
He shook his head, thinking people were just built different. He'd busted his ass for ten years to get where he was.
But this kid, who looked like he just got out of high school, was already getting VIP treatment from Mr. Nguyen!
The gap was huge.
Even if he kept grinding for another twenty years, he might not reach that kid's level.
Joshua's words hit Lisa like a punch to the gut, making her heart ache.
If she hadn't dumped Charles back then, would she be the one standing next to him now?
Sometimes, overthinking was a killer.
The more you thought, the more it messed with your head, and the more you felt like you lost out!
That feeling of missing out on a fortune? Not everyone got it!
"Mr. Sanders, you might not know, there's been some buzz around the office and the companies in the Gold Trade Building. Our old landlord, Mr. Nguyen, might be selling the place and moving all his assets to Nuw Yark to start new projects. This young guy could be the one taking over. If he buys the Gold Trade Building, he'll be our new landlord!" Another boss from the Gold Trade Building chimed in.
"Seriously? The Gold Trade Building is up for grabs? Damn, that's a deal worth hundreds of millions. Who the hell is this kid?"
"No clue, but with that kind of respect, he's obviously got some serious clout. Anyway, we'll keep doing our thing; a new landlord isn't a big deal as long as they don't jack up the rent!"
The chat between Joshua and the other boss hit Lisa even harder.
Her emotions were all over the place, like a stormy sea.
Charles was gonna buy the Gold Trade Building?
Joshua turned to Lisa and said, "Ms. Evans, you okay? You don't look so hot. Feeling sick?"
"Nothing, Mr. Sanders, I'm fine!" Lisa's words were dodgy. She was hurting inside, but she forced a smile and tried to act normal.
"Let's go, Ms. Evans, I'll show you around the company first!"
Charles, with Alice, had just walked into the Gold Trade Building, and Lisa followed Mr. Sanders and the others right behind.
Charles saw Lisa too, but he didn't say a word.
He couldn't be bothered to greet her.
Lisa had finally stopped bugging him these past few days.
Maybe after pestering him for days and getting ignored, she felt disrespected and gave up.
She admitted she still liked Charles, still loved him, but she wasn't about to wait around forever!
People gotta move on!
Lisa was never the type to stay loyal to one guy.
As long as a guy chased her and treated her well, she wouldn't say no, and juggling a few at the same time was no biggie.
Then she'd tell you she didn't want to hurt you, so she couldn't bear to reject you.
Lisa thought Charles was just her backup plan, but now Charles had become such a big shot!
"Yo, Mr. Smoke, this Gold Trade Building kicked off construction in 2011 and wrapped up in 2012. So, it's been around for like nine years. Right now, it's home to over three hundred companies.
The first two basement levels hook up to subway line 4, and they're packed with snack shops.
Floors one to five? All about fashion—branded men's wear, women's wear, luxury counters, you name it.
Sixth floor's got a cinema, seventh's a hot pot joint, eighth's a swanky fitness club, ninth's a karaoke bar, and floors ten to twenty-one are themed hotels.
Above the twenty-first floor, it's all commercial offices.
We've got financial management firms, online gaming companies, intermediary services, and a bunch of self-media studios in here.
Mr. Smoke, I can show you around each floor if you want!" Lloyd said, all patient-like.
He was a bit of a chubby dude, looked kinda rough around the edges.
If you didn't know better, you'd never guess he was a billionaire.
Maybe even richer than the Sullivan Group!
Charles glanced around as he walked, with a dozen people trailing behind him.
He didn't have time to check out every floor, so he just skimmed a few.
This place had over forty floors, and it'd take hours to see them all.
"What do you think, Alice?" Charles suddenly asked.
Alice was already feeling pretty bummed out.
Charles had asked her out today, not for shopping or a date, and he didn't even try to sweet-talk her. Instead, he just left her hanging and talked business with others!
'If you're gonna talk shop, why drag me along? Why ask me out and then ignore me?' Alice thought.
She'd skipped class for this meeting, all because of Charles' call!
But since they met, Charles hadn't given a damn about her feelings.
"What do you mean?" Alice was a bit spaced out.
"I mean this building! What do you think of it?"
"I think it's pretty good!" Alice replied on autopilot.
"Alright, if you like it,, I'll buy it for you. Mr. Nguyen, name your price for this building. I'll buy it and transfer the ownership to this lady right here!"
Hearing that, Billy, the chubby guy behind Lloyd Nguyen, just took a sip of coffee and sprayed it out.
What did Charles just say?
He actually wanted to buy this building and give it to someone else?
Buying the Gold Trade Building made sense—he had the cash. Real estate's a solid investment, even if the growth is kinda slow.
But giving this building to a woman? Dude, this place is worth hundreds of millions! Was he for real?
Charles' words even left the seasoned Mr. Nguyen stunned, and it took him a few seconds to process.
"Mr. Smoke, are you serious about buying the Gold Trade Building? And giving it to this lady?"
"Yep, as long as she likes it, it's a done deal!"
Alice was totally floored by Charles' words, her soul practically shaking!
"Charles, you must be joking, this is a building!" Alice asked, her voice trembling.
"I get your concern. But since you think it's cool, it's settled. I'll buy it, and you can be the landlady. Trust me, that's how it is!" Charles said, firm and unshakable.
