Chapter 171 Taking a Bath
Charles was feeling all kinds of down.
Being too popular? Yeah, that ain't always a walk in the park.
And being a looker? Man, that can be a real pain sometimes.
"Officer Hawkins, how 'bout I just handle this myself? You’ve been busting your butt all night. You gotta be wiped out. It’s just a scratch; I can deal with it," Charles said, trying to be all polite.
"I'm not busy. You guys are so reckless. What if it gets infected? Just sit still and let me do my job!"
Nancy suddenly gave him this eye roll that was anything but annoyed.
It was flirty, shy, teasing, and kinda caring all at once.
Seeing that, Charles felt his knees go weak. He almost giving in right then and there!
'Nope, not happening! I ain't falling for your tricks!' Charles thought.
Women often started with the whole caring and gentle act, making you all comfy. Then, when you started chasing them, they would play hard to get, messing with your head!
Next thing you knew, you were wrapped around her finger, a total simp.
You thought she's into your charm?
You thought a little effort will win her over?
Wrong!
Charles and Nancy had known each other for less than a day.
This chick was just testing him.
Charles wasn't gonna fall for it!
Just yesterday at the party, he bought Grace a necklace worth $46 million, showing he was loyal and all in.
If he caved to Nancy's flirting, wouldn't that make him look bad?
Charles wasn't about to make that rookie mistake!
"Officer Hawkins, I think we should keep some distance. We've known each other for less than a day. Please, respect yourself," Charles said while watching Nancy bandage his wound.
He didn't resist, but once she was done, instead of thanking her, he coldly told her to respect herself.
Ouch, that was harsh!
Nancy felt a bit stung by his words.
But that sting made her want his approval even more. She wanted to conquer this guy.
People don't value things that come easy!
She was definitely testing him.
And Charles proved he had a strong will.
"What are you doing? I was just bandaging your wound 'cause you were hurt. Why are you getting all mad?" Nancy said.
"I'm not mad. I just don't want you to get the wrong idea. We can be friends, but as for being a couple, that's not happening. Don't waste your time on me!"
"Charles, you're so full of yourself. I was just bandaging your wound, and you think I'm into you?" Nancy shot back.
Now she was really ticked off!
Charles was great, but not everyone was into him!
"Thanks, Officer Hawkins, for bandaging my wound. I did overreact. I'm sorry. I just don't want you to get the wrong idea 'cause I already have someone I like." Seeing Nancy genuinely angry, Charles quickly apologized.
Nancy thought the "someone" Charles mentioned was Grace.
But in Charles's heart, Grace wasn't even that important.
Grace wasn't as important as Jessica, couldn't hold a candle to Alice, and might not even rank above Snow!
'I said I have someone I like, but I never said it was just one person,' Charles thought.
Maybe it was because he had just leveled up today.
Even though he hadn't slept all night, Charles was still buzzing with energy.
By noon, Charles finally strolled out of the police station.
The station wasn't far from the beachfront villa, so Charles flagged down a cab, planning to head there, take a shower, chill for a bit, and catch some Z's!
As for Snow,Nancy had mentioned she was released ages ago.
So Charles figured Snow had left the station in the morning and didn't give it much thought.
In reality, Snow had dozed off after waiting at the station for two hours!
Even when Charles left, she was still snoozing!
Twenty minutes later, Charles rolled up to the beachfront villa.
He punched in the code and walked right in.
Jessica had just changed the lock code a couple of days ago.
As the buyer of the house, even though Charles's name wasn't on the deed, Jessica naturally gave him the new code.
It was a sign of respect, plus a little hint.
Jessica didn't mind shacking up with Charles anymore!
She was even looking forward to it!
As soon as he stepped into the villa, Charles heard the sound of running water from Jessica's bathroom.
Through the glass door, he could vaguely see a graceful figure showering!
His heart started racing. He felt a bit restless, his blood boiling. A strong desire began to rise in his heart!
'Jessica's in the shower. She probably won't turn me down, right?' Charles thought.
'If she wanted to reject me, why would she give me the villa's code? She must be ready!'
'A real man doesn't hesitate; seize the moment! It's right there; go in and make it happen!'
He finally tiptoed to the bathroom door, his face burning red.
Before he could push the door open, it suddenly swung open.
A girl, stark naked, was drying her wet hair with a towel. She was quite the looker.
'Not Jessica?' Charles thought, stunned.
"Damn!" The girl froze when she saw Charles.
Charles froze too!
"Ah!" A scream echoed through the villa!
"Pervert! Get out! Who are you? Get out of here!" Lori Day retreated to the bathroom, shouting furiously.
"Why should I leave? I haven't even asked who you are. How can you just waltz into someone else's house to take a shower? Do you know this is trespassing?" Charles shot back.
"You pervert! Just wait, I'm calling the cops right now. I'm gonna charge you with harassment. You'll be in jail soon!"
"Go ahead, call them. I'll wait!" Charles shrugged, showing no fear.
Lori was almost in tears from anger. She realized her phone wasn't in the bathroom.
And she wasn't wearing any clothes. There wasn't even a big towel in the bathroom.
The clothes she had changed out of were outside the bathroom.
At this moment...
