Chapter 141

Rachel

The last two weeks went by so quickly. But something must have happened the morning Massimo went out so early to take care of business, because since then I could walk to Starbucks without being followed, there were no more prank calls and no one bothering us anymore. I don’t know what Massimo did but I was so grateful I didn’t have extra stress on me. Yes, I’m still sick at least once a day, but I could keep more food down. I have a variety of foods I can eat by now. Thank God for that. I’ve been working mostly from home the past few weeks; it makes it much easier for the morning sickness and constant tiredness. Massimo was very busy with work the past few weeks, we didn’t really had time for each other, but he promised me from the 24th, Christmas Eve he won’t be working unless there was an emergency. It was the Wednesday before Christmas when Massimo reminded me, he had a surprise for me that evening and I need to wear an evening gown. I was so excited to spend a whole night with him. We didn’t speak about our fight in the last two weeks. I think we both are ignoring the fact that the fight ever happened. I fitted my engagement dress earlier that day and I could feel the dress was tighter than the first time I wore it. When I looked in the mirror from the side you could see a little bump forming. I couldn’t believe I was showing so quickly. I was debating with myself if I should still wear the dress, but I wasn’t in the mood for dress shopping so I decided to still wear the dress.

Later that evening I got dressed, done my hair and make-up and went to the living room where I found Massimo with his tuxedo and a glass in his hand. He could hear me approach with my high heels. “Bella, you look breath taking.” “Thank you, Massimo, although the dress is a bit tighter than before.” “Nonsense, let me look at you.” I spin in a circle slowly and when he could see me from the side he said “Stop” I stopped and he walked towards me, he put his hands on my stomach. “Is this our little boy growing in there.” “Yes, it is but it could be a girl Massimo. And I told you the dress is tighter.” “It is not you look more beautiful today than the first day you wore that dress.” “Thank you, Massimo.” He pulled me to him and gave me a hug and his favourite, a kiss on my forehead. “You are the most beautiful women I’ve ever laid eyes on Bella.” “You have to say that Massimo.” “Nonsense I told you I’ll never lie to you and I never will.” “Can you tell me where we going Massimo?” “Changing the subject Bella?” “Maybe” “Well okay then, I’m taking you for supper and then we going to see the Nut cracker.” “You not serious Massimo?” “Yes I am.” “Oh my God I always wanted to see the nut cracker.” “I could see with the chose of decorations Bella.” “Oh, Massimo Thank you, thank you.” We ate at a fancy little restaurant in Time Square then it was a short walk to the theatre. Luca and Marco always with us. I was dying to asked him what happened that the Ricci’s aren’t following us anymore but I didn’t want to jinx anything. I was just happy and went with the flow.
Massimo got us box seats and I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Women. I was so excited. The theatre was buzzing with excitement and that made me more excited. I couldn’t sit still. “Bella you, okay?” “Yes, why do you ask?” “Since we came to sit down you haven’t sat still for a minute.” “I’m just excited Massimo.” The lights flickered and everyone took their seats. I grabbed Massimo’s hand and started to calm down. The ballet started and it was more beautiful than I’ve ever imagined. “You liked it Massimo?” He asked when it was over. “I loved it Massimo, can we come every year, we can make it tradition with our children.” “That sounds like a great idea Bella.” “Thank you, Massimo.” When we got back to the SUV I took of my shoes and put my head on Massimo’s shoulder. Tonight was way too exciting for me. When we reach the apartment, Massimo woke me up, “Bella where home.” “Sorry Massimo, I think it was too much excitement for me for one night.” “Don’t worry about it Bella. You want me to carry you?” “No, I’m good.” When we got to the room I undressed put everything in its place, took one of Massimo’s t-shirts and went to bed. I was asleep before Massimo even came into the room.

The next morning Massimo had an early meeting, I was very glad for it, because I had my appointment with the OBGYN and I really didn’t want him to go with. I wanted to surprise him with baby’s first photo. I really didn’t know what to buy him at all. Only problem is I need Marco to keep our appointment a secret. I phoned him and told him I had an appointment in an hour and we need to leave in 10 minutes time. I got him at the lift. “Where are we going Rachel?” “Promise you won’t tell Massimo.” “Rachel, you know I can’t make a promise like that.” “Marco if you don’t promise, I’ll take a taxi or an Uber.” “Fine Rachel, I promise, your safety is more important.” “I have an appointment at my OBGYN to get my first sonar. I want to frame it for Massimo.” “Then I won’t say anything.” “Thank Marco.”

We got to the OBGYN and it looked like I was her only appointment. There were no receptionist or patients. “Hi Rachel.” “Hi doctor, are you close?” “Yes, I am” “You should have told me, I would have waited.” “And then what would you have bought your soon to be husband?” she looked at my hand. “Congratulations” “Thank you doctor and you do have a point. Thank you for coming in just for me.” “Anytime Rachel. Now let’s get you on the bed.” I got on the bed and the doctor apologized for the cold gel she was putting on my belly. She moved the sonar around; found a spot and I could hear a heartbeat or was that white noise? The doctor looked at me, surprise written all over her face. “What’s wrong doctor?” “I won’t say something is wrong but…”
