Luca and Marco was sitting in front of then SUV, Massimo and me in the back our first stop was Louvre Museum. I was so excited we took a selfie at the entry of the Louvre Museum I couldn’t believe Massimo was fine with taking a selfie with me he didn’t strike me as the selfie type. He pulled me to a side door where someone open the door for us. Must be someone important he knew Massimo, greeted us and lead us into the museum. He wanted to give us a guide, but Massimo said it wasn’t necessary. We walked in and I didn’t know where to look should I look at the art on the walls or should I look at the roof, everywhere you looked you saw art, it was so beautiful. The roof was gold with art, Massimo took me to see the Mona Lisa or should I say he dragged me because I looked at everything around me. I couldn’t get enough. After we saw the ‘Mona Lisa’ we went to look at ‘The Raft of Medusa’ Massimo told me this painting was considered a breakthrough in the contemporary art scene at the time and remain one of the most significant paintings of French Romanticism. Shortly after the death of the artist Gèricault at age 32, the Louvre Museum bought ‘The raft of Medusa, and it has remained there ever since. “How do you know so much about art Massimo.” “I love art sweetheart and I read a lot about art.” Then Massimo took me to see ‘The Coronation of Napoleon’ the painting was 20 feet by 32 feet. Just the size of the painting was wow. The painting was the coronation of Napoleon at the Notre-Dame-Church in Paris. It took the artist three years to complete. By now it was ovious Massimo had his favourite art pieces he wanted to show me. He then took me to see ‘The wedding at Cana’ It was painted by Italian Renaissance painter Paolo Veronese. The painting was 22 feet in height. It’s the biblical scene where Jesus turned water into wine, with hundreds of people in attendance. We walked around and looked at the other paintings, when Massimo pulled me to a painting called ‘Liberty Leading the People’ Massimo explained it’s a revolutionary painting that commemorates the July Revolution that led to the descent of King Charles X. He said we should appreciate the artistic expression of freedom through this iconic painting as it marks the beginning of democracy, depicted by a women holding the flag of France and wearing a red Phrygian cap-a symbol of Liberty.
By now I was feeling sorry for Marco and Luca that had to follow us everywhere. David with the head of Goliath depicts the tale of David and Goliath in a combination of Baroque and Renaissance styles.
