Chapter 254

Rachel

I came down the stairs and heard Massimo was on the phone with Damon. I walked out the front door and took one big lung full of air. It was a nice day, a bit cold but nice. I wrapped myself tighter into my cardigan and walked over to the wine yards or should I say vine yards because we where in Italy. I walked and looked up at the sky, when last did I walk outside alone and looked up at the sky and all I see is more sky. Don’t get me wrong New York is stunning but when you look up all you see is buildings and more buildings and sky scrapers you don’t just see sky. I wondered through the vine yards thinking any minute now Massimo or Marco will join me but to my surprise they didn’t. I loved walking around alone I felt free. In my previous marriage I was a prisoner because of the abuse it seems like in this marriage I’m a prisoner because my safety is always a concern, there was always someone that wanted to hurt me or Massimo. I hope everything would calm before the babies come, I don’t want to worry about them being in danger as well. When I realized where I was, I walked from the house to the end of the property, I probable needed to walk back again. It was just so nice being outside and alone. I breath in the fresh air a view times. This was doing me and my health so much good. That was one of the reasons I wanted the house to be done before the babies come, I wanted to be able to sit outside and play with the babies on the grass. I want to be able to go for a run without someone following me I want to be able to see the sky like I see it know. I know I want a lot of things but I think it’s things we take for granted when you not married to a mafia boss or are friends with the Organize crime king of New York. I thought about the saying my mom always said ‘Jy kla met die witbrood onder die arm.’ (He is complaining about not having something, but he has a loaf of white bread under his arm.) I needed to be more grateful for what I have. I should remember that. I should look for the good things not the bad. I was giving myself a speech all the way back to the house. I was surprised to see no one was waiting for me or watching me from a far. When I walked into the house Massimo and Anton were drinking some wine and talking about the good old days. “There you are sweetheart. Did you enjoy your walk?” “I loved it, I can’t wait for us to have our own home with a back yard and everything.” “It won’t be long Bella and then Anton you and Candice should come and visit.” “Oh, we definitely would especially when the babies are born, I’m going to spoil them rotten.” “I’m sure Massimo is also going to do that Anton.” “No no Rachel. I’m going to give them a lot of sweets and give them back to you, when they get hyperactive.” “You won’t dare.” Massimo said at Anton laughing. “You think I’m scared of the New York Mafia boss? Never I know where the bodies are barred.” Then they laughed so hard. Even Candice came out of the kitchen to see what was going on. She looked at me then at them I just shrugged because it was funny but really not that funny. “Can I help you, Candice?” “You can just come and sit with me.” “I can do that and maybe taste test?” “I see that babies are hungry.” “They definitely are.” “Then come and sample everything we’ve made so far. And I want you to taste our non-acholic rose.” Candice poured me a glass and gave me a board with different types of Italian cheeses and biscuits. “Nibble on that so long and tell me what you think of the wine.” I took the wine smelled it and took a sip. It tasted sweet, which surprised me. “This is delicious I like the sweet taste.” “That makes me very happy I told Anton we need a sweet non-acholic wine. And off course he argued with me.” “No, I’m a fan.” “Thank you, Rachel.”

Massimo

After Anton stopped me and Marco to go after Bella, he forced me into the house. He poured each of us a nice glass of red wine and we sat in the living room while Candice and the cook where busy with tonight’s feast. “What did the doctor say?” Anton asked “Her blood pressure was high and she was just tired the babies are fine but we need to go to our OBGYN to monitor her blood pressure.” “Massimo not to be funny or anything but my blood pressure would also be high if I saw you being shot in front of me and a day or so before that she was chased by the cartel, what did you think she will just go on and not crash.” “To tell you the truth Anton she’s been through so much in her life I thought she will take it like she took everything else.” “You told me she wasn’t even a month in New York when she was brutally attacked, she was kidnapped, raped, chased by the cartel, saw you got shot and you think she will just go on. That women is strong Massimo but remember everyone has their breaking point and I’m afraid if you don’t get her into that new place you talked about in the country side she will break and then there will be no way to recover from that.” “I guess I’ve thought of that Anton and now we need to get back and all the shit starts over again but with another family.” “Let’s just say that’s why I’m very glad I’m out of that business.” “If it wasn’t for that business, you wouldn’t have this.” “I know Massimo but I’m still glad I’m done with it.” We saw Bella approach and Anton and I started to talk about the old times it was like a switch that was changed. Candice also came into the living room and took Bella to join her in the kitchen.

Later all the men came into the house and Candice opened a door to a very huge dining room. “This room was last used when Anton announced his retirement of the Mafia. I think it’s just appropriate that we use it tonight as we have Mafia royalty in the house.” Candice winked at me. “Thank you, Anton, Candice for your hospitality the last few days. We can’t wait to return the favor when you come and visit us.” “Saluti!!” Everyone said while raising their glasses.
