Rachel
I knew why Massimo wanted to go to The Hamptons earlier, the house is more secure and there was space for more men. I didn’t ask him why; last night I didn’t want to burst his bubble. Truth be told I’ll do anything to keep my babies safe. Even making him think I have no clue, why he wanted to leave earlier. I couldn’t believe we didn’t go to Time Square at night before it was so beautiful and the food last night was the best steak I’ve ever had. I doubt our steak tonight will be that good, but it’s not really the food that counts but the people around the table. Massimo and I got up late and both of us went to check our e-mails. The new building was really taken up most of my time. There was a foundation I wanted to talk to Massimo about, I really wanted to get involved in and attend their ball in the New Year. Maybe I could talk to him about it today before our guest arrives. I know Rossa and Salvadore are closing the restaurant earlier today, to attend our get together. I told them if I had my way, we will do this every year and they seemed very happy about the idea. I answered all my e-mails and send the maintenance issues to Enzo. Work done for me for the day. I went looking for Massimo. I found him behind his desk. “Bella come in” he said just before I knocked “You do know you don’t need to knock right?” “Yes Massimo, but I still feel like I’m intruding if I don’t knock.” “Bella, come here.” I walked over to him and laid my head on his chest, “Do you really think our toddler is going to knock before coming into his daddy’s office?” “No but I still feel like I need to knock.” “Please sweetheart you really don’t, I’m not hiding anything from you.” That almost made me laugh and react in a very sarcastic way, but a bit my tongue and didn’t say anything. I want to talk to you about a foundation I want to get involved in.” “Off course” “It’s for domestic violence victims, I really feel I need to get involved in that. To give back to those women that isn’t as fortunate as me. With someone that looks after them and cherish them. If it wasn’t for you, I’ll be back in Cape Town in that abusive relationship Massimo.” “Okay how do you want to get involved?” “They are hosting a ball in January and I thought we could go and I’ll find out then what they need and maybe speak to the right people.” “We can do that Bella.” “Don’t you need the date first before you commit yourself?” “I’ll move anything else if it is necessary.” “Thank you, Massimo, you really are the best man for me.” “You the best women for me Bella. Now let’s get you fed.” He picked me up and carried me to the kitchen where a hazelnut ice coffee was waiting for me. “Can I make you a sandwich Bella?” “Yes please, I need to start on the spinach I’m making for tonight.” “First drink your coffee and eat your sandwich then I’ll help you. All my work is done for the day.” “I like that, you helping me in the kitchen.” Massimo made me a pastrami, cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwich, for some reason when I make it, it doesn’t taste the same as when Massimo makes it, I’m sad when the sandwich is finish. We finished up then started on my spinach dish. I made Massimo, do the onion and beacon while I cooked the spinach and made the white sauce then I packed the shortbread cookies in a dish. “Cookies in a spinach dish?” Massimo asked me in shock. “Trust me Massimo.” “Okay Bella.” We finished up then got dressed for the evening.
Damon and Dani was the first to arrive, I haven’t seen her since before we went to Paris. “Hi Dani, Damon” I hugged Dani, Then Massimo greeted them and I was surprised she went to him and gave him a hug. Massimo and Damon looked shocked. I must say I was as well. After what happened to her, she wasn’t touchy feely with anybody except Damon. “Come in, let’s go to the lounge.” I broke the silence. Massimo gave Damon and Dani a drink and gave me my non-alcoholic drink. “Dani we” Massimo pulled me to him “Just want to say thank you very much for clearing everything with the Feds. We would never have asked you to do that.” “I know Massimo and that’s why I did it with the utmost pleasure. I’ll never be able to repay you for what you have done for me Massimo, that was the least I could do.” Dani sounded more assured of herself, if I could guess I would say she’s feeling more than her old self again. “Love the hair and contacts Dani.” I told her. “Apparently, that was all for nothing the Ricci’s has found us. But we not here to talk about them we are here to celebrate Christmas and I heard you guys got engaged and are pregnant. That’s a lot to celebrate.” Dani said “Indeed it is” Damon said He got up and said “Cheers to you guys getting engaged and pregnant at the same time.” He slapped Massimo on the back and gave me a hug. “I guess thank you.” I teased him. Rossa and Salvadore walked into the lounge. “What did we miss?” Rossa asked. “Only your oldest son doing everything at once Rossa, getting engaged and pregnant.” Damon said “I’m not pregnant asshole Rachel is.” “Potato, potato” You see why I call them both my sons girls, they bicker like they are brothers.” Rossa said. She gave everyone a hug then Salvadore gave everyone a hug. “Let’s go through to the dining area. Dad you or Damon might need to help me with this thing, I’ve never used.” Our ladies followed them to the ‘outside’ braai/barbeque area. “I’m sure you’ll figure it out Massimo, you always said you could do anything.” Damon teased him.
The evening went by without a hitch. Massimo got the steaks perfect and everyone loved my spinach dish and potato salad, when I brought out the cheesecake everyone wanted the recipe. I was so impressed with myself. We drank and talked the whole night. Nothing about business or the Ricci’s or the danger outside the door just normal small talk I loved every minute. “Salvadore its past 11 already, I need to get up early tomorrow to make Christmas lunch, we’ll see all of you there tomorrow, right?” Rossa looked at Damon when she said it. “Yes, Rossa I’ve never missed a Christmas before I won’t start now.” “Good, see you kids tomorrow.” We all hugged and Damon and Dani decided to leave as well. It was just before 12 when Massimo and I finished carrying everything to the kitchen. He insisted we leave it for the cleaners and I refused. I’m not letting people come in to clean after us on Christmas day. We went and sit in the lounge looking at the tree. “Thank you, Bella. That was the best Christmas eve I’ve ever had.” “My pleasure Massimo, maybe we can do it every year.” “That would be a very nice tradition for our kids.” When I saw it was 12pm I gave Massimo a kiss, “Merry Christmas Massimo.” “Merry Christmas sweetheart.” He kissed me back. “Massimo, I need to give your present to you now I can’t wait anymore.” “I’ll wait sweetheart.” “No” I walk to the tree and got his gift. He took it and first squeezed it and felt it. “Massimo can you please just open it.” He tried to open the present carefully. I started to get irritated with him. “Massimo just rip the paper please.” He ripped it and found the two baby grows and then he saw the photo frame. He looked at me confused, then looked back at the frame.
