My pregnancy! How did it happened?
Sadie's pov
Justin abruptly stopped talking as I entered his room, and his expression made it clear that he didn't want me to overhear the conversation. I continued to stare at him until he ended the call.
"Who was that?" I asked.
"Daisy and..." He paused.
"What does she want from you that you don't want me to know?" I sat on the bed, leaning my back against it, while keeping my eyes fixed on Justin, who continued to gaze at me.
"She wants to know the truth. She believes you fabricated what you said at the event."
"This is the right time to let her know the truth. Unfortunately, both of us are now in the same situation. I have not seen my dad and she too had not known her dad. Please, tell her the truth." I averted my gaze from him.
Justin immediately shifted his attention to his phone, and after a few minutes, he said as he walked towards the bed,
"I have sent her the DNA results. Only God knows how she will feel after going through them."
When he said those words, I, too, started contemplating how Daisy would react to the test results. I got carried away, and deep down, I felt a pang of pain imagining her reaction. Suddenly, I raised my upper body and asked,
"You didn't tell Daisy the moment you found out? You should have addressed this matter right away."
Justin remained silent, instead, he sat down and lowered his face slightly towards the floor, using his index fingers to massage his temples. Over the few months I've known Justin, I've learned to recognize when he's under great stress, and I could see the struggle he was going through in deciding what to tell me. There was a meaningful silence, and I understood its significance for him.
Justin took a deep breath, and I patiently waited for his response to my question.
"I love Daisy so much..." His voice changed, and I could see immense pain in his eyes and hear it in his voice.
"In my wildest imagination, I never want to lose Daisy. I've loved her from the moment I laid eyes on her as a child. I love her with all my heart," he raised his face and looked at me and then returned his face to the floor again, falling silent. I knew that at that moment, he was in great emotional anguish. How could I help him?
I moved closer to him, taking his right hand and placing it on my lap.
"Please, be strong. I'm willing and ready to stand by your side.”
Even though Justin had been asking me throughout yesterday whether I would go back with my mum, I refused to give him a direct answer. My mum had sent me her flight time, and it was only an hour away. I knew that what I was about to do would surprise Justin. I picked up my phone and dialed my mum's number. Just as the phone started ringing, she answered and said,
"I'm at the airport now, you can start coming."
"Mum… I..I don't plan on going back home. I'm in love with Justin," I blurted out without thinking. I didn't consider how my mum might react or what she might say. All I cared about at that moment was pleasing Justin. I also realized that my indecisiveness might be hurting him.
"How could you do such a thing? Justin is like a father figure to you, and he's your best friend's dad... it's shameful on your part," my mum responded.
"Mum, I'm sorry, but this is what brings me happiness," I said before ending the call and I knew my mum wanted to say more words.
Justin looked at me, raising his face in disbelief.
"Are you serious?" he asked, opening his arms, waiting for my response.
"Yes," I nodded. At that moment, he embraced me, lifting my legs off the floor. He was so overjoyed that he carried me like a newlywed bride and took me from his room to the living room, where he placed me gently on the couch, treating me like the most precious thing in his life. He opened the bar and retrieved my favorite wine, uncorking it.
"You have completely made my day," he exclaimed.
He handed me a glass of wine and continued, "Now, you won't have to be ashamed of being seen with me. This is something I've always wished for.”

Author's pov
Juliana took the phone from her daughter and looked at the DNA results. She studied it for about two minutes and then exclaimed,
"What? This can't be true." Her outburst caught Gabriel's attention, and he approached Juliana and Daisy, trying to see the phone. However, Juliana turned the screen away from him.
"Daisy, let's go inside," she said, leading the way while Daisy followed. Gabriel stood there, hoping the front door would remain open so he could join them, but to his dismay, Juliana slammed the door shut, making it clear that he wasn't welcome.
Once inside the house, Daisy waited for her mum to break the silence. Juliana was still confused and rechecked the DNA results. Finally, Daisy spoke up,
"Mum, what do you have to say about the results?"
The next thing Daisy saw was tears coming down her mum's face. Juliana tried to hold her tears, but it broke Daisy's heart, and she approached her mum, embracing her tightly.
"Please don't cry," she pleaded. Daisy took the phone from her mum's hand and guided her to the bedroom, where they both sat down. However, tears continued to flow from her mum's eyes.
"Why are you treating me like this, Mum? I can't bear to see you cry anymore. Please, stop crying," Daisy pleaded.
"How can I stop crying?" Juliana stood up in frustration, her eyes red and unable to meet Daisy's gaze. She walked over to the window, seeking solace in silence, except for the sound of her heavy breathing. A few minutes later, Juliana turned towards her daughter and said,
"I know it will be incredibly difficult for you to believe me when I say I have never cheated on Justin. That's why I'm in tears..."
"Mum, I believe you," Daisy interrupted.
"How can you believe me when your dad has presented evidence against me? It's so painful to be in a situation where I'm starting to doubt my own words, let alone expecting you to believe me. Please, stop trying to make me feel better," Juliana broke down again, covering her eyes with her right hand. Another silence filled the room.
"What can I do to help my mum?" Daisy wondered. She could see that her mum had already given up, thinking that Daisy had accepted she had cheated on her dad at some point, even though Daisy didn't want to admit it to her face.
"If you didn't cheat on my dad, why are you assuming that I didn't believe you? You're my mum, and I've known you since I could make sense of my surroundings. Mum, I'm starting to think that Dad and Sadie made up this story to justify their relationship. I'm on your side completely. I know you've searched your heart and realized that you couldn't have cheated on my dad. Rest assured that if they can come up with such a terrible story to humiliate both of us, they will eventually face the consequences. I'm certain their relationship won't last."
Juliana watched Daisy as she spoke those words with confidence. She couldn't take her eyes off her daughter's eyes and mouth. Without realizing it, she walked up to Daisy and embraced her, crying on her shoulder.
"Please don't cry, please. Your tears are breaking me down. Please, don't cry," Daisy comforted her, patting her back. She gently pulled away from her mum and added,
"I want you to go to your bathroom, take a cold shower, and lie down to relax. Dad and Sadie won't get away with this. I'll do whatever it takes to bring back your happiness." Daisy wiped away her mum's tears with her fingers. Not wanting to cry in front of her mum, she left the room and went to her own.
Upon entering her room, Daisy noticed a knock on the front door. Filled with anger, she went to answer it, expecting to see Gabriel and ready to unleash her rage on him. However, when she opened the door, it was Johnson standing there. It took her by surprise, as she had been prepared to confront Gabriel.
"Who are you?" she asked, her anger evident in her tone.
"My name is Johnson, and I'm here to see Juliana," he replied.
Daisy looked at Johnson for a few seconds, and all her anger suddenly disappeared as she was pleased with his friendly expression. However, she still wanted her mum to have a good rest, so she spoke slowly,
"My mum isn't at home."
"Okay, when she comes back, please tell her Mr. Johnson was here," he replied.
"Sure, I will," Daisy agreed.
She slowly closed the door and thought to herself,
"This must be my mum's ex boyfriend. He was at his place, she must have spent the night the other day."
Daisy was in her room, about ten minutes after telling Johnson that her mum wasn't home. Suddenly, her mum rushed into the room. When Daisy saw her mum, she initially thought she wanted to ask about the knocking at the door. However, her mum said something unexpected,
"Daisy, I remembered something, and I'm not sure how true it is."
"What is it, Mum?" Daisy asked, surprised.
"It's about your pregnancy, I have been thinking about it,” her mum revealed.
"What? My pregnancy? How did it happen? Who is the father?" Daisy rushed her words, sensing that her mum was somehow convinced by this new information.
"Mum, please say something. I'm waiting," Daisy urged, sounding genuinely concerned. Juliana blinked her eyes twice and finally said,
"Let's sit down. I'll open up to you…”
