we are not compatible

Taylor heard the sound of a car horn outside his house, a familiar sound.
"Isn't that Gabriel?" he thought, a smile lighting up his face. It was noon, and Taylor was the only one at home. He hurriedly got up and went to the door, filled with excitement. As he reached the door and opened it, his expectations were met.
"Gabriel...! I thought you said you'd be back tomorrow."
"Yes, sorry about that. All the same, it's nice to be here. Is your leg healing quickly?"
"Yes, please come inside. I'm thrilled you came even earlier. Gabriel, look at you. You left the country, and I really missed you. No person like you in my life.” He smiled.
"I missed you too. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to your parents' anniversary."
"Hmm..." Taylor hummed as he sat down gently.
"It makes me so happy to see you again. I hope your work won't keep us apart for this long again," Taylor asked, and they both laughed.
"Are you home alone?" Gabriel glanced at his watch and then at Taylor.
"Yes, for now. Larisa went to work. You know, I kept telling you about the problems in my relationship, and I don't know what got into her. Just like you surprised me by showing up unannounced, Larisa did the same one evening. Can you believe I was lucky enough that Larisa almost caught her best friend secretly taking care of the house for me when she left?"
"Really?" Gabriel responded, surprised.
"I don't understand if she intentionally left the house and returned without calling me. Imagine if she had seen her best friend here? What would have happened?"
"The end of the relationship!"
"Exactly! Probably that's what she is looking for. Her mother even came here, wanting her daughter to come back to me. I have no idea what she said to her, and I was so surprised to see her. I was actually planning to visit her with you when you said you were coming the first time, but you let me down.”
"Please, don't be angry. It wasn't my fault. I was supposed to come back that day, but unfortunately, I couldn't make it."
"I'm just glad Larisa is back with me. I'll do my best to make her happy."
"What's actually causing problems between the two of you?"
"Sometimes she wears clothes that accentuate her curves, and other men stare at her. It drives me crazy, and she knows I don't like it."
As they discussed, Taylor then remembered why he had invited Gabriel, "I invited you here for a very important plan I'm about to execute. I'm about to propose to my girlfriend. In a grand style."
"Wow! Does she know about it?" Gabriel asked.
"No, and I think this is the perfect time to do it. It'll be a big surprise for her."
"That'll be nice," Gabriel nodded.
"Now you see how important your presence is to me. I'm so happy you're here. Please help me open that bar and bring out a bottle of wine," Taylor pointed to the bar.
"Let's finish talking before the wine," Gabriel said, showing disinterest in the wine.
"Please, get the wine. You should know how happy I am with your presence."
Reluctantly, Gabriel got up and fetched the wine and the glasses. They both drank from the wine after Gabriel had opened it and poured it into the glasses.
After Taylor and Gabriel finalized their plans for the engagement party, it was around 6:30 pm. Larisa came home and by this time , Gabriel had gone. She entered the house and she didn't say a word to Taylor.
"Darling, what's wrong?" Taylor slowly walked over to where she was sitting. Instead of speaking, she handed him an envelope. Taylor took the envelope and quickly opened it while standing with his crutches.
"What?" he exclaimed. "What did you do? Why did they fire you from work?"
"I didn't do anything. They said they're downsizing their staff, and I was affected," she replied, lowering her gaze.
"Darling, don't let it bring you down. These things happen in workplaces."
"I'm not down. I knew something like this was coming because someone in HR had informed me beforehand. I immediately started reaching out to my friends, informing them that if the staff reduction affected me, they should help me find a job. I was surprised when one of them called me from New York and informed me that she had applied for a job for me and they wanted me to interview."
"An interview? New York? New York is so far. Why don't you look for jobs here before considering such a distant place? No, no," he frowned.
"What is wrong working in a distant land? This is why we always have misunderstandings.”
"It's too far. When will you be coming home? How... how...?"
"How what? If I had known, I would have stayed on my own. If I had stayed on my own and didn't come back to you, no one would have stopped me from doing what I want. New York is where I found my new job, and now you're not happy with me."
"No, it will affect our relationship."
"Are you talking about our relationship or my financial state? Did I say I was going to break up with you? Why does my personal choice always clash with yours? Does it mean we're not meant to be?"
"What did you just say?" His voice grew louder.
"You heard what I said."
"Why didn't you tell me when you first found out about losing your job? I would have also looked for a job for you."
"How could I tell you when we weren't together? In fact, you were making me angry at that time."
"Your going to New York will affect our relationship and you know that. Besides, you're not financially lacking. I will provide, and I'll provide double if you want me to. Or let's put it this way, I'll start paying you the salary you lost. That settles everything.
"I don't want anyone to control me," she stood up.
"Am I depriving you of anything?" he asked. "Why are you speaking as if I'm controlling your life?"
"I don't want to be under anyone's control. That's one of the reasons I didn't want to return to this relationship in the first place, but my mom begged me and said all relationships have ups and downs. This is what I want to do, and nobody can stop me." After she finished speaking, she went inside. Within a few minutes, she came out again and walked towards the exit door.
"Where are you going? Has it gotten to that?" Taylor asked, standing up with his crutches. "Has it come to that? Why do you always leave my house whenever we have misunderstandings?" As he spoke, he walked towards the door, but by then, Larisa had already walked out of the house.
"Where are you going?" He stood at the door, and Larisa had gone far.
“Larisa! Larisa!!” He called but she didn't answer him.
Larisa took a taxi and went to her mum's house. The day was growing dark when she knocked on her mom's door.
"Larisa? You didn't even call that you are coming." Her mom was shocked when she opened the door and saw her daughter with a sour expression.
"What happened again? It's barely been a week and a few days since you went to meet Taylor. What happened this time?"
Larisa entered the house without saying anything and sat down in the living room, folding her hands.
"I told you that going to Taylor's house in the first place was a mistake, but you insisted. In your favor, I decided to go, and it hasn't even been two weeks, and I'm back. Mum, please listen to me and understand my point of view. I don't want to depend on Taylor financially. Consider this situation. My company had to let go of some employees due to the financial crisis, and unfortunately, I was among those they let go. Luckily, a friend of mine got me a job in New York. Can you imagine? Taylor said I shouldn't go and that I lack nothing. He said I should stay and he provides for all my needs. If I should accept that, it will be even harder to express my thoughts, and that means I'll be completely imprisoned." She paused and looked at her mom, waiting for a response.
"Oh my goodness, what's happening between both of you? Aren't you compatible?"
"Yes!" She stood up. "That's the point. We're not compatible. That's what I want you to understand. That's what I've been trying to make you see. Does it mean that if I go to New York, our relationship will end? I'm glad we're not married or engaged yet. I'm going to New York, and no one can prevent that from happening."
The following day, in the early morning, Larisa woke up feeling nauseous. The sensation gradually intensified until she had to rush to the bathroom and vomit.
"What's happening to me? Am I pregnant?”
